Of course, the runaway winner's likely going to be Mexico, but besides that, which away trips are you thinking of taking during the Hex? Mexico Jamaica Honduras Costa Rica Panama After Mexico, I'd love to do Jamaica and possibly Costa Rica or Panama depending on when those games fall. My order of preference Panama Costa Rica Honduras Mexico Jamaica My real hope is that in the 3 game grouping in June we have two away games and one home game. If I go further and just set up an awesome dream we have Panama away and Costa Rica away, I would just die of happiness. Spending a week in Roatan wouldn't be terrible either. Jamaica I'd only be excited about if the misses could come and we'd sit on the beach for several days. I've seen enough of Kingston.
I believe in June we will have a 4 game grouping, so I'm guessing it will be two home and two away. I'm hoping that Panama and Costa Rica can be grouped together so that people can hit up both in one trip, but judging from how this past round of qualifying went (1 home, 1 away in each group of matches), I'm not holding my breath.
As I understand it CONCACAF will use the February friendly date for one game and dropped the June dates to 3.
Mexico (In for Azteca, no doubt.) Costa Rica (If it's in the winter I'll make this trip with the lady) Panama Jamaica Honduras (Went in 2009)
Ah, didn't know that. I did hear that the Hex nations are supposed to meet next week to try and agree on a schedule. I'm sure that part will come up. If they can't agree on a schedule, it goes on to FIFA and FIFA sets it. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
For us away trip newbies as I am, what is the safety expectations in Ciudad de Mexico? I'd like to make that trip, but quite honestly, it intimidates me. I almost certainly want to make the trek to Costa Rica. I've done Jamaica enough that I probably can't swing that expense by the missus.
I really wouldn't worry about it too much. Consider how many times the US has played in Mexico and no fans have ever to my knowledge been killed at a game. (Note that this isn't the case in Europe). Honestly the whole thing gets a bit overblown like somebody is going to stab you. At worst you get some beer poured on you and they call your mother bad names. The police will be there to make sure nothing severe happens.
Strength in numbers too...I haven't been to Azteca for a U.S. match, but no one's going to mess with a group of 300-400 Americans.
Or something else yellow from what I have heard. Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to nut up and make the trip next year.
the atmosphere will be tense and there may be some projectiles but you will get out of the stadium unscathed. its a great city, a great atmosphere and a must see if you have the means and opportunity.
I'd actually say to some degree that more numbers make you a bigger target. People are most likely to throw things at a faceless mob of opposing fans. I have known people who have sat solitary as opposing fans in club games among the other fans and are often completely ignored. Still the actual danger of a game in Mexico is near zero.
I mean things like physical violence. Sure the group will get messed with but it won't go further than that. Officials from the Hex nations were set to meet in Miami next Friday to try and work out a schedule. ETA: I guess it was today...see later post for more info
We are definately planning for Costa Rica. Picked hotels and a zip line place - just waiting for the date. Really hoping the AO makes a big presence. It really looks like a great place to visit.
Dunno where their source for this is, but there's this: http://www.theamericanoutlaws.com/events/concacaf-hex-schedule-will-be-determined-by-a-draw ETA: U.S. Soccer has posted this: http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-N...ded-by-CONCACAF-Draw-Within-Next-30-Days.aspx
I wish I could've bet that they wouldn't be able to do it themselves. So now I've heard two things: a couple sources said the draw would be Nov. 7 (if they couldn't work it) and now they're saying with in 30 days.
Yeah, I think Nov. 7 would be considered a subset. CONCACAF announced on Friday evening that the final schedule will be set by draw within the next 30 days, with reports in Mexico stating the draw will be determined on Nov. 7th
So how's going to Azteca work? I've seen videos of American fans being escorted in by securtiy. Do you just meet police officers a few miles from the stadium and go toghether?
there is a large plaza outside the Azteca with food, merchandise and drinks for sale. last time around the police escorted a large group of supporters from that plaza into the stadium. that worked very well.
