I don't think there is a transfer thread open, so I'll post this here.

Onda Cero reported last night that Real Madrid have 'put things in motion' to acquire Radamel Falcao next summer. This allegedly means that we've told his agent (Jorge Mendes!!) that we will pay his release clause.

HOWEVER, separate sources indicate that this is not true and that a deal is already in place via which Falcao could end up in the EPL during the winter transfer window. It is believed that a deal is done, explaining why Atleti have publicly commented on how money for Falcao would solve their economic problems. The alleged interest from Real Madrid is believed to be nothing more than rumors started by Atleti management so they can eventually say to their fans: 'we had to do this in order to keep him from ending up at Real Madrid.'

These same sources suggest that we are indeed looking to a sign a Colombian striker next summer... Porto's James Rodriguez.

Transfer rumor mill getting going in October! Nice.

J Rodriguez is to be a real talent but i don't know if he is ready for Real Madrid yet.

I buy him all the time though on FIFA13 :)

James Rodriguez isn't really a striker and his release cause is in the 45 ME+ range and I don't see Porto coming off that price too much, if at all. For that kind of money when we already have the likes of Oezil, Di Maria, Ronaldo and a very promising youngster this might be one of those players we let go to another league and buy him down the road unless the Portuguese side are willing to really, really negotiate (don't hold 'yo breath for that one though).

If our hearts are set on a SA striker then Cavani is my first choice but man Caicedo is one to watch too.

While we're on the topic of transfers, I'd really love to see Fellaini play here. Been impressive as hell for Everton so far this year, and has said that this would be his last season with them, possibly even hinting about a January transfer. Since Essien is only a loaner, and Khedira is really the only ball-winning type we have, it would make a lot of sense.

I know he plays further up the pitch for them, but considering our style he definitely would be better suited as the box-to-box ball midfielder like Khedira.

Fellaini is a very good player, I like him.

I also think he will fit in here and is quite versatile as we have seen for Everton.

If we sign Falcao (or any other striker for that matter)..who do we see leave? Benz or Higuain? My money would be on Higuain.

    Higuain I guess.

I don't think we'll sign another striker though.

    Higuain.

In the matches that matter, you'll hardly notice that he's gone.

I was right about Falcao all along... and to think that his release clause was $20M before he signed the $45M in July last year... That would have been the right time to get him... But people thought Higuain and Benz were better... Sigh.

Anyhow, James Rodriguez is not a striker, he is a LM or CAM like Ozil, so why would you get James when you have Ozil and Di-Maria... and James has an inflated price $45M?? WOW. Amazing talent and will probably be one day a top top player... Probably the same level of DiMaria or Ozil.

We don't need Falcao though, at least not at this point. Higuain and Benz are more than capable strikers and fit better into our style of play than Falcao. Is Falcao still capable of functioning at a high level when he isn't the focal point of an attack? When a team isn't built around him?

I don't rule out the possibility of having to replace one of Higuain or Benz this summer but let's see how all three finish the season, I get the feeling all things considered it'll be pretty even. Our current strikers are just not in top form yet but history tells us that we need to be a little patient and more than likely they'll start producing.

I like Pipita, and I like Benz, but Falcao is on another level, and I have said this since 2000 AND late. Long ago.

And Yes Falcao has proven to be able to function even when he is not the focal point ... 71 goals in 85 games proves it when in FC PORTO; Hulk was the man, the focal point of the team.

If and this is a big if , our strikers don't step up. We will get a new striker. Higuain especially needs to steps up. The guy is usually a scoring machine.

Gonna move all transfer related stuff from other threads here.

As for the Falcao talk, he is a great player but cant see Atletico selling him to us.

I hear Mourinho was presented a "binder full of women strikers" so he can start thinking about his options.

I don't think we are after a striker to be honest either (or will not be when the transfer window opens) think Benz and Higuain are our main two with Morata as another option unless one of those two decide they want to leave.

defensively however we could do with one or two new faces (RB position mainly) but I can't think of any who would be of Madrid quality.

Davide Santon looked really good a few years ago...

I can't think of another RB I'd rather have? Carvajal to try his luck out here in a year?

Do we *need* a new striker? No. Our guys are class when on their game.

That said, we know two things:

    1) Uncle Flo likes shiny toys ... and a right back doesn't fit that description. Who are the current shiny toys? Neymar, Falcao, who else?

    2) Joe Mou has said that even with a strong squad he thinks new players have to brought in to keep a certain competitive dynamic within the squad. This doesn't mean he was referring to a striker, but I don't think he'd rule one out.

NOTE: the media is not starting some anti-Higuain, anti-Benzema campaign. The speculation here is being largely driven by how Atleti is starting to position itself for the inevitable transfer of Falcao.

Transfer talk = good times. Good times indeed.

I get Uncle Flo likes shiny new toys and I get Falcao has incredibly lush and shiny hair but that being said come the end of the season I'd be surprised if Falcao is the object of the Superior Being's affections. There is some unsuspecting player out there who is going to probably hit a run of form in WCQ and in the process the good Uncle will become smitten and stop at nothing to have him.
