Sure, I'll reformat. I'll add my two cents at the bottom as well :)

Now, as for those predictions, the biggest issue I see is Minnesota. With their remaining schedule, they could easily win four of their last five, and perhaps all five. Illinois will have to play well to win there on Friday night. I don't see any way they finish behind Nebraska in the standings. The Cornhuskers will likely be the underdog in all five of their remaining games. Not sure I see Iowa winning four of their last five either, though it's possible if they knock off either Ohio State or Penn State. The winner of the Illinois-Michigan match on 10/29 probably takes second. If I were to handicap the standings again, I'd probably go with this:

    1. Penn State
    2. Michigan
    3. Illinois
    4. Ohio State
    5. Minnesota
    6. Iowa
    7. Michigan State
    8. Purdue
    9. Nebraska
    10. Wisconsin
    11. Indiana
    12. Northwestern

bmoline -- Bravo for the table I'm sure it took some time. It sure would be nice if someone could figure out how we just could copy and paste Excel spreadsheets into a post.

That might not be so hard if you set up your excel file as a delimited file with | as the column delimiter and \ as the row delimiter just like the TABLE bbs function does. Then save as text. Just paste the file text output between the [ table] and [ /table] operators.

    Here's a short tutorial http://www.journalofaccountancy.com/Issues/2003/Jul/MakeExcelALittleSmarter.htm

You would, of course have to click "other" when making your choices. There might be a conflict with other excel designators, like time and date, but I don't think so. And the forum probably limits characters per row.

Alternatively, you could have a section of your excel spreadsheet which uses the LOOKUP excel function to setup a single cell with the proper format for copy and pasting. This might be easier to use, but a little more involved to set up.

I use OpenOffice, but files are mostly interchangeable, and it would work with that program. I do similar stuff when reading output from microprocessor data loggers.

bmoline...thank you. And yes, I agree that Nebraska will have to be running strong to get that record so maybe a 5-5-1 season for them would be better mark, and Minnesota could trump them. I think Nebraska has a defense that is just one tough machine, and the one star forward who is on fire. But so does MN. Really, MN and Nebraska look like similar teams. OSU just doesn't have enough going on in their offense. The teams at the bottom will have to hope that someone above them falls apart and they have to win more than lose hear on out. On the excel software thing...Excel use to be much easier to use. I just got the newest version and icons are so different and commands hard to find with extra key strokes required. Not liking it at all.

So who is Penne State going to tie? Michigan? I think @Iowa could be a trap match. Iowa with three scoreless ties. They may have a keeper that can keep PSU off the scoreoard.

Well, the game I think Indiana had coming was there on BTN tonight. A 3-0 shutout over Purdue, all three goals in the first half. Everyone should have had fair warning by now that IUs offense can hurt you. Valesquez is getting goals again and Candler was outstanding as the provider tonight. But an organized defense is the key to any win, and has been their downfall in previous seasons. There were plenty of signs it was better this year, as in that late loss to Illinois -- then two significant lineup changes were made after the loss: a new keeper with hot hands, and Steigerwalt as an attacking outside defender. Last week IU was playing Penn State to 2-2 late in the game when (and this has been under-reported but I watched a replay on BTN a day or so ago) a PK call in the Penn St box went against them, and the home team scored on the counterattack. It was not always pretty in the 2nd half tonight but they held Purdue scoreless and were moving the ball well in the middle third to keep them at bay. With this result things get very interesting as far as standings and prospects for the rest of the season.

Great report on the Purdue vs. Indiana game. Would love to see either or both Purdue and Indiana have seasons that are consistent and get them up to the ranks. Hey, if things aren't working, good to see dynamic coaching cuz Indiana hasn't always done this. Michigan vs. Michigan State was as expected, but wasn't exactly a put away for Michigan. . Will be interesting after this weekend results are in.

Hey Gofer, I guess IU doesn't need your input. Do you still think they aren't trying.

Well that disgruntled poster wanted me to fix IU, and what can I say, I waved my wand and fixed them! Now if only I could get the Gophers to score on set pieces.

Well you better work quickly on those set pieces or they might find themselves in that 9th place spot.

Minnesota beat Illinois 3-0 tonight in St. Paul.

The first half was pretty wide open and back and forth. Taylor Uhl got the Gophers on the board with a nifty move in traffic to get open in the box, where she slotted home a nice finish.

Tam Strahota, who moved to forward for this game after coming back from injury, scored a goal early in the second half off a Uhl assist. The shot took an awkward carom off the near post and rolled into the far side of the net.

Taylor Uhl scored an insurance goal a few minutes later off her own rebound in the box to finish the night with two goals and an assist. Parkhill had the shutout in goal, making a key save on a DiBernardo shot when the game was still close.

Thought this was the best game the Gophers have played all season. The schedule is favorable for a strong finish if they continue with this level of play.

Huge win for Minnesota...Helps move them up and really shuffles teams in the middle of the pack. Purdue's loss to Indiana is a big blow. Wisconsin just snuck it out against Northwestern 2-1.. Watched back and forth a couple games tonite, but portion of Northwestern game I saw showed scrappy play, lack of possession in the midfields and just a lot of turnovers. WI scored on headers, and NW got a goal in a front mix-up that almost got called back but no offsides. WI goalie had some good saves to stop a good opportunties that could have forced a tie but Wi ended on top.

Here's the new chart for rankings, and once again hope someone can take charge of formatting, or post how to to the conversion to keep a chart. Thanks.

Just from brief look, I think any team that can put five wins on the books is pretty much in the Big Ten championship. The question will be for any bubble teams with just 4 wins...a tie or two could bump them up or tie breakers in points down to the wire.

After last night's loss to Minnesota, Illinois should be at 4-2-1, 13 points in the Big Ten. Don't know much about the game other than Bob's report above and the recap I saw on fightingillini.com. Nice win for the Gophers, I know Rayfield was very concerned about that game going in.

They will probably be favored in all four remaining conference games.

This time of year is when the programs start trying to highlight players...see it in press, on sites and listening to announcer. Like vying for big ten team spots votes. It actually gets kind of sickening to see/hear the highlights of players that just don't have the stats to back it up.

I'll watch a couple more games tomorrow and comment on this "self-serving" PR so I don't pick on one program, cuz I bet all do it and heavily use preseason games to build stats against lesser team.

We were trying to come up with the number of players in the big ten that would be considered very strong technical and tactical players, and it is a short list. It is so much looking more like a really good high school game. Check out this quote:

In a recent interview with Soccer America, U.S. U17 WNT head coach Albertin Montoya, summed up the state of elite American youth soccer ability in about 80 words:
“But what I will go back to – and what we keep saying as a country for both our men and women – that we could be better technically. And tactically as well, but technically we’re still not comfortable enough with the ball.U17 WNT coach Albertin Montoya
“We talk about playing a certain way. We want to possess the ball much more. But in order to do that we have to have players who just love being with the ball at their feet.”
