i've been keeping an OL Ladies thread going hit and miss (mostly miss) for a few years.

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/ol-women.240742/

it recently occurred to me that it would likely be better placed here; the ideal would be if it were accessible from both boards but that doesn't seem possible.

in any case the global public (especially american and german) public is likely to be as much or more interested in PSG this season so a D1 thread is probably the best way to go. For those particularly interested in lyon, just bookmark the above thread.

for other interesting links, first a couple exclusively about OL:

what http://www.lyonfemininefoot.com/ lacks in quality it makes up in quantity: the photos aren't breathtaking, the design and organization of the site aren't great either. but there is an incrdible amount of stuff squirreled away in there one will find nowhere else, all competitions and ages included, even practices.

http://www.damienlg.fr/index.php?/category/22 is the opposite: just good and sometimes great photography of some OL matches.

now the two best sites i know of for D1 news:

http://www.une-deux.net/ is a site that looks like it runs on a shoestring but puts up at least a couple of new articles every day and offers PbP of lots of major matches, including some that aren't televised.

http://www.footofeminin.fr/ is bigger and slicker; the only disadvantage for a stingy old bastard like me is that the articles disappear behind a paywall after 30 days.

finally the fed has a section for D1 féminine http://www.fff.fr/champ/femininesD1/actualite/ which, since they have by far the most resources, is the sketchiest and least up-to-date of all. and no english version, understandable for others perhaps but scandalous here.

the only places i know of where you will find english information are http://women.soccerway.com/national/france/feminine-division-1/20122013/regular-season/ which is OK for stats but seems to do about one article every three years and of course good old http://www.olweb.fr/en/Actualites-sportives/100002/Feminines

i forgot to mention this site http://cahiersdufootball.net/blogs/ni-buts-ni-soumises/ which deserves to stand apart. les cahiers proper are the best comeback when someone accuses football fans of being lowbrow and the blog attached to it for women's football is also very good.

This thread actually might be better placed in the Women's Rivalry forum where other European Leagues (Damalsvenskan, FrauenBundesliga) have their own threads with consistent traffic to them. Just a thought.

well, the BeNe, spanish and italian leagues are here.

a subforum for european leagues might be a propos. but i will agree with wherever a moderator wants to place the thread. i may be a mod, but not of this forum, so i don't have authorization to move it.

I don't mind whether the thread stays here or not. If you ever get the feeling it might be better off in the rivalry forum just tell me or the other mods.

my personal opinion is that the thread is better off here, as would be the swedish and german league ones. "rivalry" forums have a particular function; the primary place for discussion should be in a civilized environment (that said, the women's rivalry forum is a comparatively tame place).

the summum would be to have a subforum Overseas Pro Leagues. In the old BS, subforums had to be limited for technical reasons, that may no longer be the case. in any and all cases however, there are now many more such pro leagues, and of decidedly more interest, than before. so it may be worth asking for a subforum.

Yes, I thought this was where the threads for other, perhaps "less fashionable" leagues went. It's not saying "Division 1 is better than your leagueNYYYYEHHHHHH!!!"

But either way, I'm glad to have something on this. My mother went to France recently. I stayed back due to health issues, but got all curious. She went to Carcassone, which is in the south of France, somewhere. Not sure what department, and frankly, I don't think departments are the top level anymore. It's regions now.

But regardless, it would be good ofr a person like me to learn about this league. Merci!

The league starts tomorrow by the way and there are some unusual features. A win is worth 4 pts a draw 2 pts and a defeat 1 pt. You get 0 pt if you dont turn up for the game ( yes it does happen ).

what if you "turn up" with 10, 9, 8 players?

don't some teams occasionally miss a game because some of their amateurs or semipros have other "work" to do?

i don't think it happens much in D1 anymore, although i've seen it occur in CFA (the level where men's reserves play).

the 4-2-1-0 is the norm throughout french amateur sports, where this can indeed be a problem. besides forfeits 0 points are also awarded for a match lost by penalty (court problem, fighting, ineligible players...) you also get a fine of 30€ for a forfeit (at least that's what it is in basketball), not much perhaps, but every penny counts for a neighborhood club.

if your not as addicted to TMI as i am you can stop here

if the home team forfeits they are also liable to the visitors for travel costs, approx 1€/km. in matches where official referees have been assigned the shirkers pick up both clubs' share of those costs (it's not like in the states where every U-5 3v3 has a man in a yellow shirt, on district level matches are reffed by the home club until you get to U-15, and in basketball about half of them are until you get to seniors).

forfeited matches in basketball are scored 20-0, which is not good for a team that expected to win by much more (naturally it's always the whipping boys who forfeit). so shady deals have reportedly been made* made to falsify match cards to show a more equitable score for the winner and avoid a fine for the loser.

technical fouls are also 30€ a pop, so if one of your kids is a hothead he can cost you a lot of ducats in a season.

not sending in the match card within 24h is 2€ +10€/week after that . this is because in the absence of scouts and media coverage, the fed website is the only place you can know where you (and your opponents and rivals) are in the standings, and at the end of the season it can make a big difference knowing whether you need to win (and by how much in basketball) or only draw (football).

matches are always on sundays for amateurs, and for young kids always in the morning.

you don't forfeit if you show up with 7 players (minimum allowed by FIFA) but if you get a red card then, you forfeit.

in basketball the minimum number is 2 (to do throw-ins!), and i remember once standing in to coach a game where we only started with 3 because the real coach and other genius parents all got lost and at tipoff +40 minutes (ten minutes past maximum delay allowed) that's all i had. the hosts were kind enough to let me put a 4th on the match card when he showed up a few minutes later, but that's all. then an injury put us back down to 3 and we were still winning until the (home team) refs called two quick bogus fouls on my son to make us play the last 3-4 minutes with only two. hard to blame them since they could have claimed a forfeit and were pretty mad at themselves for not having done so!

    DAY 1 RESULTS:

Lyon - Rodez : 8-0, à Lyon (Stade de Gerland)
    Tonazzi 18', 34', Abily 20', 31', Otaki 47', 70', Schelin 66', 71'

Vendenheim - Issy : 2-1, à Mundolsheim (Stade des Floralies)
    Thomas 39', Schwartz 59' ; Neffati 90+1'

    Saint-Etienne - Montpellier : 0-2, à Saint-Etienne (Stade Léon Nautin)
    Ayachi 34', Asseyi 48'

Yzeure - Toulouse : 3-1, à Yzeure (Stade de Bellevue)
    Bouillot 9', Trevisan 16', Gueheo Djetou 35' ; Traikia 78' s.p.

    Juvisy - Arras : 6-0, à Viry-Châtillon (Stade Georges Maquin)
    Machart 20', Thiney 31' s.p., Dusang 37', Cayman 51', 81', Catala 90+4'

    Guingamp - PSG : 1-1, à Saint-Brieuc (Stade Fred Aubert)
    Morel 80' ; Hamraoui 41'

OL and Juvisy TCOB against weak opposition, MHSC keeps pace; PSG drops points against a club outside the big four which is not the way to get a CL spot, but neither horan or bresonik are playing yet so no reason to panic. TFC is going to have to do much better to stay up and since they're backed up by a men's pro club there's no excuse not to.

    STANDINGS :
    Nom Pts J G N P Bp Bc Diff
    1 Lyon 4 1 1 0 0 8 0 8
    2 Juvisy 4 1 1 0 0 6 0 6

Definetly the best season ever of our football, four top teams , obviously one stronger than the other 3 , but slightly ........Lyon the favourite who should have been weakened by their financial crisis ,however, they seem stronger than the last year, with the coming of Tonazzi and Bussaglia ;Bussaglia,Henry,Abily ,what a mdifield!!!!! Bruno did you hear me , sniffff.....plus and probably the most important Georges ,Deville are still in the club which is so important for a club playing three competiton.
Montpellier has kept is roster loosing only Sameshima , the team was young and a little bit unexperienced last year so this year they certainly are stronger , gk Phillipe,cb Gadea,cf Delie, mid Plaza ,cb Meilleroux are the present and near future of french football .
Juvisy bought accomplished players like Soyer and Dusang (who still the best french defender if she stays fit ) and a future star like Camille Catala , they lose Tonazzi and the core of the team is getting old , nanny Soubeyrand above all.......they don't have the roster depth as the three other teams so it will be hard to manage league and champions league , but they represent the old france football feminin before Aulas ,Nicollin and Qatari millions....so they will always be loved .
Psg , well the richest female football club in the world, so basicly they can buy anyone they want and watching what they have done it looks like is their only plan thus far.......I mean ,is great to buy Bresonik,Krahn,Cruz,Horan,Hamraoui etc....but if you loose Soyer,Bussaglia,Thomas, Blanc etc...your team still more or less the same ,they had a problem scoring last year and they still didn't bought a goal machine thus far.....If they don't buy a forward even two they will fail to qualify for the champions league for sure !
Four teams, One winner, One qualify for the women champions league , two who will fight untill last second and all this in the wainting of Marseille .....it's good to be french ;)

Well Sinclair might sign very soon and Leroux might come in January in the South of France. Not forgetting another Canadian player who could come if she is not too greedy...

PSG recruited swedish international Kosovare Asllani , they needed a forward and they recruited a offensive midfielder ....they 've got the money but no the plan.....anyway that's mean their starting eleven will be composed by 5 or 6 non french players and i 've got the feeling this is not the end.....
I wonder if the french federation will allow them to play with 11 non french players.

    Kosovare is primarly a forward.
Not much they can do about it as long as the non-french are EU citizens. Regarding others they can of course implent any rules they want (as long as it follow UEFA and FIFA rules)

PSG will try to sign Solo in January right ? We have three club in the south of france , Montpellier, Toulouse and Rodez .Rodez ?...I really don't think .... Montpellier is the most famous and someone like Leroux will be perfect for them , however , they already have all they need as forward ,in my opinion .
Toulouse is the perfect city for young people, is somekind of a college town , so Sydney will enjoy her time there for sure.....but the team is not good as he used to be some years ago.
Is so sad to read about greedy women players, if there was something to learn from Marta-L.A Sol case and how it ended up.......is the fact that financial source in our football is not unlimited.

She used to play more as a winger/second forward don't know if she changed position.....
Anyway by forward I mean a pure striker someone like Sinclair.

I am trying to understand your comments. You said that someone like Leroux would be perfect for them, but they don't need a forward. If they don't need a forward why is she perfect for them? Are you basing that thought on image? The need for a star player with a famous name? What do you mean?

I said it because Montpellier is a team with many young highly rated players from 24 to 20 years old ....basicly same age as Leroux....and they don't have the same pression as Lyon, Juvisy or PSG for example . She could make a great partnership with Delie , however, with Lattaf ,De reviere , Assevi, Ramos the team is full in attack.

    don't count on that!

he used to be seen at field n°10 all the time, and if you had any inclination to (and recognized who he was, which was not even my case at first!) you could talk to him. but the blood here was already bad after the way he handled the olympics so it was already clear to me that he wouldn't risk coming here... certainly not for a match at n°10; the only place his physical security could be assured is in the presidential box at gerland, and it's not likely aulas is going to invite him there now!

since i've posted it elsewhere i'll say it here: there's a bompastor support fb page you may be interested in. i doubt even a million likes on it will make a bean of difference to bini or the FFF, or maybe even to soso, but the one thing to always remember and never forget about life is:

    YA NEVER KNOW!
