This is right in a sense, but if it results in a turnover then it would be reviewed. Only if the receiver had been awarded the catch, and it did not result in a scoring play, and it was not under 2 minutes in a half, would it not have been reviewed, but the coach could throw the challenge flag to determine whether the ball was caught or not. It wouldn't be challenged to determine possession, but challenged as a legitimate catch, and could be overturned that way.
The Saints going 0-4 has to be one of the most surprisingly bad starts in recent NFL history. I guess this season is pretty much a throw away for them now.
The sensible thing to do would be to randomize it, so whatever the kicker's mental routine is, you would cross it up some of the time. But if you don't call the timeout, you get to listen to the talk-show callers complain about "leaving bullets in the gun" all week-- even if he misses.
Icing the kicker is one of the more stupid things. These guys are professionals, for Chrissakes. If it was a rookie, and it was his first ever big kick, then I could see taking that chance. However, it was Lawrence Tynes. The dude has two Super Bowl rings, and has kicked many big field goals for the Giants. Luckily for Idiot Reid, he missed the second one. I still haven't seen the Eagles win a game this year that they deserved. They are the worst 3-1 team in football, along with Cincinnati. I feel for Saints fans. It seems like they're being punished for the actions of the NFL because they had a hard-on for the Saints bounty program, completely ignoring the other 31 teams who have a bounty program in place. Also, let's continue to overlook guys drilling each other in head, unless it's a quarterback that it happens to. I wonder if Chad Greenway is going to see any kind of punishment for concussing Calvin Johnson. He'll probably only get a pittance fine like Ryan Mundy got for nearly separating Darrius Heyward-Bey's head from his torso.
hmm... well, there are 2 different scenarios: 1) icing the kicker; 2) giving the kicker a practice kick. I have no idea if #1 helps or hurts the kicker. I am pretty damn sure that #2 helps though. What can possibly be going through the coach's mind to do something as stupid as giving the opposing kicker a practice kick?: "Oh gee, look at that. The wind blew the ball 5 feet to the left of the upright. Good thing I called that TO otherwise the kicker might not have known exactly how much the wind would affect his kick."
I think it could work if you call the TO before the ball is snapped. you leave the kicker out there for a little longer to think about the kick. but if you call it after the ball is snapped, you essentially give him a practice kick.
are the Jets the absolute worst 2-2 team in the league? hard to believe that as bad as they are, and as bad as they looked against the 9ers, they are actually tied for first in the division. I know it won't last for long, but still surprising. the Jets are godawful. just terrible. I was encouraged when Sanchez got off to that good start against Buffalo, and was hoping it would serve to keep the Tebow crowd at bay. but my god he looked bad against the 9ers. in the immortal words of Joe Willie, he was STRU-GGEL-ING.
there is zero talent in the Jets WR and RB's . They also have two completely useless OL. I am not sure how anyone with half a brain expects Sanchez to perform.
They just less talented with Santonio going down for a while. If anyone thinks that Tebow's going to save them with this receiver corps, they're huffing something.
The most pathetic thing here in NY is the constant Jets radio spots on the local radio stations. It was plain as day during the end of last season and the pre-season the Jets had the following huge issues. 1. Poor offensive line play in both pass and run blocking. Quite honestly Mangold and Ferguson are overrated. They are good, but they have been living on past performance this season and last year. The entire offensive line has underperformed. 2. Lack of deep threats or quality wide receivers. Holmes and that was it. 3. Lack of a quality tight end. 4. Lack of a running game. Shonn Greene is not the answer. His productivity is way down this season. Last year he started poorly and finished well over the last five or six games, but he is not developed into the star that he appeared to be, particularly based on his performance in his rookie season during the playoffs. 5. Poor quarterback play. Yes Sanchez is hampered by the above, but all quarterbacks particularly the good ones find ways to make plays. Sanchez has not and in fact his play continues to regress. 6. Poor defensive play. The only positive this team had was the play of the secondary. The linebacking corp and the defensive front have no ability to place pressure on the opposing quarterback. The secondary's coverage and ability to intercept the ball covered a multitude of deficiencies in the play of the defensive line. I thought this was at best a .500 team, with the injury to Rivas and the lack of effort 4-12 or 5-11 is a logical extension to how screwed up this team is. I blame Tannebaum for his failure to adequately assess the strength and weakness of his team. They got crap players. So Jets please do us all a favor and pull the moronic radio ads. Your D'brickawallshot....J E T S ad is stupid and based on the actual performance of the team a reminder of how delusional your organization is regarding itself.

You can't simply disregard NFL history before the Super Bowl era. 50 years from now in whatever new era it is, will we disregard the Steelers' Super Bowl championships from back in the 'old days'?
They should have a discussion with the Six-Time Lombardi Trophy Holders about headhunting players. It seems like every week a Steeler defender is hitting someone in the head with their helmet. Once or twice is an aberration. When it happens almost every week, something needs to be done.
