This seems like some fitting news to start the new thread with. DC Councilmember Jack Evans: "We're in 'final negotiations' with DC United on a new stadium. Team will pay for stadium; DC will fund infrastructure." At least more promising than anything we've heard in years...
and just when I had a off-topic Babe Ruth and Fat Ronny (and "athletic") comparison all lined up in the previous thread (XXVII) as it was being closed: Similar to a young Ronaldo, I suppose. (Although it says something about the longevity -- ~20-year career -- one can have as a "ball-player" and how a changing physique doesn't much hinder, and/or may help, with power and success on the diamond. And Ronaldo, who was out of the sport at much younger age, didn't see much if any benefit that came with the added round pounds given the more-athletic and endurance requirements of his chosen professional sport.) Well, back on topic -- Who doesn't love the stages of "final negotiations?" (And clearly this was Evans just doing a news cycle favor and distraction for Olsen, given the overly defensive lineup that United will trot out at TFC tomorrow.)
Some quality twitter responses there, including the first one: https://twitter.com/News8NewsTalk/status/254257089831108609 Agreed. This needs to be framed in a more American way (if there's still some "public convincing" that needs to be done wrt the needed infrastructure costs coming from the city). It is not about getting a soccer team an appropriate venue, but about having more places where everyone can go to buy beer and food using a credit card.
Yes, apparently. From the end of the previous mega-thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...-less-zzzzzzzzz.1919693/page-42#post-26563045
Where are the Roman numerals? There can't be a "Stadium News and Speculation" thread without Roman numerals. That's like a pre-game thread without a baby animal.
not a song (on its own), but a compilation of hits from a 16-year period. (The title of the compilation is taken from a line in the song "Train in the Distance".) not completely unlike United's search for a new stadium it would seem. And taking the Paul Simon tangent of the thread: http://www.theonion.com/articles/im-proud-of-all-my-songs-even-the-ones-i-stole-fro,29078/
I leave the country and look what happens. Sheesh. Should I stay away a little longer and see if we get the MLS Cup?
Is there any indication if its the site at Buzzard Point or at the jail or somewhere else completely different?
And now it's time to walk these comments back a bit: Jonathan O'Connell @OConnellPostbiz Jack Evans on #DCU stadium plans: “There is nothing new, except the ongoing conversations about building a soccer stadium at Buzzard Point” Steven Goff @SoccerInsider Jack Evans tells @OConnellPostbiz he's hoping for #dcu stadium framework by end of year, don't read too much into radio comment Steven Goff @SoccerInsider #DCU would pay for stadium project but wants to be able to keep share of tax revenue. Will have to negotiate that with city Jonathan O'Connell @OConnellPostbiz Evans would like to have a #DCU stadium framework by the end of the year. Said he would not sure what the cost to the city would be.
I'm going to go ahead and do what everyone else is thinking and thank the Nats and MLB for bringing baseball back to DC and helping to push along development in Near Southeast.
YAY! That's the stadium news I've come to know and love. Well, maybe not love. But understand how it fits into my world.
