I'm excited to see what Sporting does for the jersey next season. I'm still hoping for a checkerboard green third jersey to match those St Pattys day scarves.

Those TFC logos are about a thousand times better than the current one. Have an old school look, yet very clean and modern.

I hate it when teams don't understand if they're supposed to be modern or traditional.

TFC, RSL, DCU need to start acting like the classy clubs they can be.

Says the guy whose team uses a cartoon flag for their logo? I think NE should look at changing their logo before RSL or DCU. However, I do wish RSL would drop the logo that says "Real" and just use the RSL badge.

    Use this:

I'm not saying that every team should have a traditional logo (It wouldn't work in San Jose or Seattle, for instance) and I'm definitely not saying the Finale-Crayola is anything but the worst badge in the League. Some teams need to be Traditional, some need to embrace the modern (like LAG or Portland), and some teams need to go all-out goofy (Houston and Columbus would be good choices for this brand).

Think of it like Baseball. The Yankees need to be traditional. The Mets need to be modern. The Padres need to be goofy. It's hard to fully explain, so I apologise that I'm doing a bad job of it. But certain teams need to breed a different culture than others.

That would be a very, very easy first step.

Agreed. The top one looks great, maybe even classic.
The bottom one looks shit. I can never decide if it looks minor league, MLS 1.0, or like something on a food package.
I get what you are saying. Variety is a good thing. It should be an extension of the team, the fans, and/or the community.
For the most part, the logos work for the bulk of the teams. Some could use minor tweaks like RSL switching to their alternate (above) or TFC switching to their academy logo. Some, like Portland, are instant classics and arguably among the best in the world. Some are shit - ok, just New England (but it could work as part of a real crest). Seattle and Chicago work so wonderfully within the context of their markets that it's mind blowing.
LA has the classic look with Chivas and the modern look with the Galaxy. And the logos work for both teams (regardless of one's opinion on Chivas's name).
As much as KC's logo improves upon the Wizards, I think there is still room for a few more tweaks. Specifically, something needs to be done with the "SC." The font is awful. And I wonder if a "KC" would look better there.

Maybe remove the gray border that says "Kansas City", and change the SC to a KC? They could even go as far as using the same font that the KC Royals use on their hats to create some kind of unity look.

(I'm not familiar with Photoshop, so I can't do a mashup. Just use your imagination.)

Too bad the KC that the Real Kansas City use is trademarked.

The KC logo with the crown coupled with your use of "Real Kansas City" scared me for a second, before I pieced everything together. God, that would be the worst rebrand ever.

    So
Sorry for the confusion. I tried to post an image of just the KC, but it wouldn't show up. I wasn't intending to incorporate anything else from the Royals logo. Don't know where the Real KC comment came from.

Maybe an RSL fan would know more, but I'm pretty sure they do use the top one as their logo. It is the logo they have on their jersey and the only logo they use on their website.

Yeah, but MLS still uses the bottom one for, y'know, everything else (including, I believe, the All Star jerseys)

I had the same thought when the new logo first came out, but the SC "ligature" (that is what they call it) is actually the emblem of Sporting Club, the team's parent company. Robb Heineman is on record as saying that they consciously avoided using "KC" precisely because it already appears in the logos of the Royals and Chiefs. They are striving to create their own distinct identity, and as the article that I quoted previously indicates, the "state line" is intended to be their unique symbol.

I remember that, but I still son't like it. Maybe remove the "Sporting Club" text from the shield and fix that sperm-looking S. Still an improvement over every version of the Wizards logo.

They use the "RSL" crest on jerseys and on-field/actual player worn gear, but that's about it. Most other gear and memorabilia use the "Real" logo.

No reveal of the Galaxy 3rd uniform until next season, weak.

Nope, supposed to be revealed tonight at the game, but for some reason the FO decided to hold off until next season... though they apparently informed the contestants themselves who won, so someone out there knows which jersey, we just won't see it until next season...

All the stripe/angle SKC jersey ideas are nice. Quite nice. But the reason I suspect we won't see it is the problems of integrating that with a potential sponsor. If the sponsor has a background color, you'll likely lose the 'corner' effect. If they didn't, a Garmin/Sprint/whatev logo would get lost in the stripes.

I mean it's pretty cool that the top two teams in MLS are sponsor-free right now. I'm thrilled to not have an MLM sponsor. But I know the SKC owners are still pounding the pavement for a jersey sponsor, and any jersey design would be planned around that.

This was explained better this time. I get it.

And even though it's hardly official, it's still on their Wiki page. I wonder if the "Real" logo is even official anymore since both their jerseys and their website don't use it. It may be a case of MLS being behind on that.

Couldn't they just turn the wordmark 90 degrees like Ajax used to do with the ABN AMRO wordmark?

I have a media guide that describes the ReAL logo as the primary and the interlaced RSL as the secondary. If RSL hated the ReAL as much as reasonable design-minded people do, it'd be gone completely
If that sponsor says it's ok. And it's not like SKC has their pick, right now, of sponsors

Yeah, it's definitely still "technically" their primary from what I've seen..... that being said, the only time it actually appeared as the badge on the jerseys was the 2005 season... the secondary has been used on the jerseys from 2006 onward.... (maybe primary is seen as too busy when taken down to the size of a badge?)

Aside from the Timbers and their alts is their any other team that has had their secondary logos appear on their game shirts? (not counting monochrome versions of the primary)

EDIT: Forgot the rapids used their circular blue Secondary for awhile.
