Are the MetroStars coming back?

okay, so maybe I'm reading too much into this. But Thierry Henry had probably one of the best games any MLS player has ever had tonight against TFC. He was wearing an armband that from what I can tell, were the MetroStars colors. He scores a goal and points to it, obviously wanting everyone to take notice. Do you think this is a sign that the Red Bulls might consider bring the MetroStars name back?

Think about it. The New York team in Queens is inevitable. By having the Red Bulls continue calling themselves New York when there really will be a legit NY team, it'll make them look dumb for lack of a better word. It's bush league. Also, they are probably not thrilled if they call themselves NJ as that doesnt have the same marketing power as NY. So just rebrand back to the Metrostars and encompass all of the area. if i recall correctly, MetroStars started out as NY/NJ but towards the end they just went by Metrostars name alone. Red Bulls can keep the name on the stadium, the sponsorship, the logo on the jerseys, etc. What do you all think?

In my completely biased opinion I thought "Metrostars" was a worse name than "Wizards". Just clunky sounding.

Obviously they're rebranding as New York City FC or Empires.

Red Bulls to rebrand as Cosmos. New NY club to be called FC Barcelona.

    That is all.

The energy drink giant Red Bull organisation bought out the team and rebranded them to Red Bull New York.

I noticed he did that too, but i was just thinking he was pointing out he was the Captain and did a Captains job tonight. He was phenomenal. That last goal was pure class.

I still think they should be re-branded as a New Jersey team. I know the Jersey name isn't as exotic as New York but I think it would be a bigger rivalry between a New Jersey team and a future New York team.

Yeah, Red Bull owns four soccer teams, FC Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull New York, Red Bull Leipzig and Red Bull Brasil.

And based on that info, there is nothing to suggest that Red Bull would consider naming their team anything other than "Red Bull."

No, it was pretty obvious that his gesture was a tribute to Metro and its supporters. Lately he has made Iseveral comments lately about wanting to win a championship for those long-suffering fans. After his goal last night, he approached the south ward, made a gesture toward his head, and pointed at the red and black armband. Discerning the meaning of goal celebrations is more art than science, but we're certain that he was saying, "I know about the history of this club." Another ESC lifer basically confirmed this after he gave Henry his old Metro shirt.

It was an unambiguous gesture of respect, which means a great deal to me and a lot of other people.

I always thought "MetroStars" was a clunker of a name, but I can't help but feel sentimental about it. In any case, it's miles better than "Red Bulls" -- I can't think of any worse nickname that any actual team has. And yes, it's because it is a totally crass attempt to market a commercial product.

Which means more? Great game against TFC or disappearance vs SKC?

Actually, this isn't true. The German FA wouldn't let them use "Red Bull Leipzig," so they're officially "RB Leipzig"

Can't tell if it's a joke about calling it Barcelona but if it isn't you should be kicked out of these boards for the stupidest thing ever written....ever.

Redbulls should change the logo, change the company lettering on it, we call them the redbulls but the logo say REDBULL like the can. To me he was showing his captain band as saying "That's why I'M the captain, because I still kick ass".

You might as well kill yourself in your face if you are dense enough to think anything in this thread is to be taken seriously.

I see. If the company product can cure a headache, "Bayer" (Leverkusen), it is ok. If it can cause a headache, "Red Bull", no go.

If we're going by "official" then it is RasenBallsport Leipzig. The name was specifically chosen so they could be referred to as RB Leipzig and as a way around Germany's rules.

Well, Bayer is a German brand, while Red Bull comes from the Habsburg Empire, who couldn't even contain the damn Italians on their own long enough for the Germans to win the Great War.. meaning they had to settle for the humiliation of Versailles.. meaning they had to suffer through the Weimar years financially and psychologically ruined. Germany was so down that they let an angry little Austrian and his cronies seize power to destroy that great country and its people once again. Of course, like the sissy little Austrian he is, he bowed out before the war was officially lost, leaving real Germans to suffer the Soviet vengence and 45 years of existing as a split nation. So no, Germans will never allow another Austrian to bring about their downfall once again! NEVER AGAIN!
