Make of this what you will! http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/in...y_commissioners_d_1.html#incart_river_default
The Democrat voted against it and the two Republicans voted for it? I'm confused. Also it passed, contrary to what the headline implies. So, good day for the Heat!
I think its the citys responsability to put a score board in the arena anyway so yes its good news for the heat
Except Harrisburg is broke and this is a poor investment. Indoor soccer in general is a poor investment and $100,000 for a team that will be very fortunate to take in a similar amount in ticket sales for the season makes this irresponsible.
Actually check out the name of the arena. Pennsylvania State Farm Show Arena. NOT, Harrisburg City Arena. The responsibility would fall with the state if they wanted to replace the current scoreboard. Dr. Rex Herbert who was the original owner of the original Heat, bought the scoreboard that was hanging in the arena the entire life of the original team. When the team folded, the scoreboard was till hanging there. I haven't been back to the arena since then, but I do know that when the first game of the Harrisburg Stampede was broadcast, the scoreboard was still there. I dunno, does a 20 year old scoreboard really need replaced?
The Heat need a new scoreboard because they are playing in the new 2,800 seat annex next door (same building).
So when were they ever going to announce that? When you say the Farm Show, most people believe it is the main arena, not the small annex next door, which is actually called the Equine Arena. I wonder how many Heat fans actually know this. Below is a direct quote from the Heat website: About the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, a historic arena built in 1939 with a fixed seating capacity of 7,318, is home to a host of exciting events. Featuring more than 200 shows and events each year, and utilizing nearly one million square feet of indoor floor space, the complex is one of the premier event locations in Pennsylvania. The flexibility of the complex allows it to host major events around the entire facility, a private meeting, or anything in between. That flexibility also allows it to hold numerous events of different types throughout the complex, while providing each with the intention it deserves.
wow I am guaranteed NOT to make the drive up 83 now. Total BS. How about take the entire $100,000, and use it to HIRE SALES PEOPLE to sell the game and you can maybe afford to play in the Farm Show! .... and keep the scoreboard crap- hope they fold tomorrow Looks like Dallas is the only legitimate expansion team this year Good Luck with that
Was there really a price differential between playing in the bigger arena and the smaller one next to it? I mean both are owned by the state and are vacant except for the few equestrian events they hold. $100,000 for a scoreboard (that could have easily been moved from the old arena)/money to "promote" the PASL team? No player signings - just a head coach. You can buy season tickets via their paypal links but they don't even have a seating chart... Am I the only one seeing the potential fraud here??
Eh, 1,600 seats. New??? Maybe, but better not pass the ball too high. Ceiling looks to be a little low. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/11/farm_show_complex_equine_arena.html That's the goal down at the end. Just kick it through the door. Cincy out of the Gardens also apparently??? Your "arena" list is a shrinkin.
You mean besides the larger arena in San Diego and the addition of arenas in Arizona, Rio Grande Valley, Beaumont, and Dallas?
Let's not got off topic...the "arena" situation in Harrisburg is nothing short of a joke. Call it the "Poop Palace Jr." (although horse poop probably smells different then cow poop). The Heat haven't even publicly announced that they are playing in the Equine Arena with it's whole 1,660 permanent seats.
They need to clarify that for sure, but this is a good move for the first year. They still have the option of moving to the big arena and it will be a good story when they do. They could have started in the big arena and struggled out of the gate and then they would be forced to downsize which is what happened to the indoor football team there. The Heat will have additional seating added around the field and it will be very close to the setup the Sockers had the last three years.
3 Years ago it cost $5,000 to rent the Farm Show Complex (THE ARENA) That's $40,000 for your 8 games. (I know you'll still need to hire security for the smaller place they plan on playing ) You just got $100,000 from the "city" If you are going to do this, DO IT THE PROFESSIONAL WAY. Not this half ass way Once people realize this is nothing more than a glorified Men's League, you will have the same 200 fans showing up. I for one will not drive 90 minutes to watch a game in a 1200 seat barn. Why not just play at Sports City Harrisburg? I'm pretty sure if they are handing out $100,000 to the Heat like this, a much better rental agreement could have been made with the Farm Show
The whole thing STINKS if you ask me... STINKS I say. What's next... a halftime milking competition? Thank goodness we have a PISL team on the East Coast... (borrowed without permission or acknowledgment SHAME!
Um....................scratch the arena in Arizona, and also the one in Canton. You are down to about 6 out of 19. And it's still early.
Here is a link to an article about the Harrisburg Heat: http://www.cw15.com/content/localsp...irst-scrimmage-Sa/q5mNm1QB20KChB1PSYS5Qg.cspx Best line: "The team, coached by Richard Chinapoo, has yet to announce its roster or any player signings." BBWWWWWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
They as finding it hard to find players to play for him....back like the old days. Heard DiFlorio, "Juice" and Rich's son are the key players!
The Heat won their scrimmage against local players 21-0 tonight in front of a pretty full crowd at Sports City. They hit the road for their first game next Saturday in Dallas. The home opener is 11/17.
That has to be a pretty pathetic group of "local" players if Chinapoo's "local" players beat em 21-0.
The PASL experimental 7-point goal MPS apparently was a big hit in H'burg... and on a related note, the buffet was also very well received by Sports City spectators, until the soccer ball left the field and landed in the salsa...
Even though they can't make up their minds how to spell Dave Kerns last name, with or without an S, he has been signed as the keeper and assistant coach. He played for the Blast a few years ago, also led the Harrisburg City Islanders to their only championship, retired and has also been keeper coach with the City Islanders. AND, he coaches the the Central Dauphin East High School Panthers soccer team. Man is he ever going to be busy....... http://www.harrisburgheat.com/index...le&id=82:heat-signs-kerns&catid=21&Itemid=315
