Yet they let simulating, which is directly impacting the results of games, slide with no consequence. Forget starting off with drastic actions like reviewing all penalty kick decisions through video replay, let's just start fining and suspending divers after games. I'm sure as hell many will take that art out of their game.

That will be abused as well, the moment some genius federation suit, bans a player for something that wasn't a dive.

True, but I'd rather them getting one or two calls wrong and cutting down on simulation, than no punishment at all.

    Agreed. Diving drives me nuts!!

I would also like to see something done about approaching / crowding / pressuring refs after a call (this would include that stupid ass 'give him a card' hand gesture from players).

Lastly, the whole 'fair play' farce when a player goes should be reviewed. It is 'fair play' to knock the ball out of play for an injured opponent (who in the vast majority of cases does not need immediate attention)... and that in reward the corresponding 'fair play' of giving you the ball back 50 yards away. LOL. I like the idea. Noble concept. People like to clap when it happens. But give me a farking break already.

Why am I so angry today?

If you endanger an opponent it is a red... two feet off the ground, at speed and going in hard is always going to make a ref at the very least think of a red. Don't think Shelvey had too much cause for complaint.
I think Evans went in recklessly which would be a yellow, but once Shelvey was airborne he made the ref's decision for him.

There's no rule forcing the players to kick the ball out; only rule is that the ref can whistle the play down if it's a head injury or one that he deems requires instant attention. I personally agree with you, you play till you hear the whistle. The responsibility is then on the officials to make the call to whistle the play down.

Both players went in. Only way it would have made sense would be if he punished both, giving Evans a yellow as well.

He did not. He punished one for both going in hard on a 50/50 ball. Terrible call, but not as horrible as the penalty he handed the dive later on.

He didn't punish either of them for 'going in hard.'
He punished Shelvey for endangering Evans.

Yes they both went in. That does not mean they both get the same punishment.
Each challenge was different and has to be judged individually.
And not punishing Evans, doesn't make punishing Shelvey wrong.

Yes you could argue Evans left the ground.
But looking at it, only one of them endangers the other.
And that is the point on which the red card is issued.
I don't believe Evans endangers Shelvey, Shelvey does endanger Evans.
I agree with the ref, though I thought Evans probably deserved a yellow for a reckless challenge... which I believe his was.

    All opinion though.

    I think that is incorrect.

For starters Shelvey only lunged with his right foot. He didn't come in with both feet off the ground, he lunged with one foot (left leg swung around after challenge). Secondly, Evans actually DID come in that tackle with both feet off the ground. So using your rationale he was the one who endangered his opponent (Shelvey).

Shelvey was punished because of the contact to the knee (and Evans reaction) not because he had a two foot challenge because he didn't; Evans was the real culprit of a reckless challenge but was considered the victim. Shelvey even won the ball on top of that.

No way you can/should give Shelvey a red card for that and if you do you have to either red or yellow card Evans because it was his reckless two footed dive of a challenge that endangered even himself.

The red card could be given, but there was more contact on Suarez who could have gotten a penalty (but didn't) than Valencia (who pretty much was on his way down before the defender was even there). After the whole Evra thing, there's clear prejudice against Suarez by the officials.

Shelvey reminds me of Carsten Janker. That was a player you could just not like no matter how much you wanted to (not that i ever wanted). :D

Shelvey and Evans BOTH feet left the ground. TBH, the ref should of either given a yellow to both or a red to both. Simple.

    Look at the GIF.

Evans tackle is a two footed dive in at another player. Shelvey's is a one footed lunge to block the path of the ball which he actually accomplished. One can't possibly red card Shelvey and give Evans nothing. In fact Evans looks like he got the first harmful contact kicking Shelvey's ankle.

I could care less for Shelvey and I don't like Livershit, but what is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. The official got it wrong.

Manchester City lost to 4-2 to Aston Villa after extra time.
Anyways Chelsea got themselves a good right back in Azpilicueta. We could use a player like him right now.

I for one, hope he comes back to RM and shows what he can actually do (I think I'm in the minority here). I was so excited when he first came over, then the injury..then the lack of PT..then this summer with getting put as a LB. Tough start at Madrid...

If he starts lighting it up, the sky is the limit for this kid. Hope he makes a name for himself at RM.

Sahin made the wrong decision to join to Liverpool. Arsenal would of suited him better and he would of learnt a lot more through Wenger than fecking Rogers.
