I know it's been long-speculated, but after the announcement didn't come and didn't come, here it finally is.

How do you feel the announcement was handled? Why the delay?

Feels a bit anti-climactic to me, especially since everybody already knew it.

The interesting thing to me is that the deal is a one year rolling agreement - which means they are anticipating moving at the end of any season - maybe even for 2014

And they have sold 3.5-4k season tickets so far.

Where did this number come from? I found the article that had the number in it...you can read it here.

That article is noteworthy since it is the first time ever that someone was quoted as saying, "Hofstra is of historical significance" in history.

Not quite. They claim 3.5-4k registered to become season tickets holders. That is not buying. And that is if you even believe them.

Jossed, I agree with you. I'm skeptical of the numbers too. WSW put out a number I hadn't seen anywhere. He did portray them as season ticket sales while these were only people signing up to be notified when season tickets were available. I don't even think a deposit was required (but I could be wrong).

"Playing at Hofstra, we have to play at a temporary facility first up -- that is without a doubt, the best temporary facility within a very large area."

The Cosmos have "a one-year rolling agreement" with Hofstra, O'Brien said.

Did Seamus O'Brien just imply they have a permanent stadium in the works.

    Reminds me of this:

In an interview with bloomberg businessweek Courtemanche said the new owners would have to commit to build a new stadium and pay a franchise fee.

    http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...r-scouts-new-york-for-team-to-rival-red-bulls

"Once a stadium location is set, MLS will select an ownership group, Courtemanche said. The new owners would have to commit to build a new stadium and pay a franchise fee."

    Here's hoping Cosmos NYC2 MLS

Doesn't surprise me, as many people signed up when they announced and a few more since no doubt. I can see this number hitting 5-8K once they actually get a sales staff together...which strangley enough would put them almost on par with some MLS clubs, specifically Red Bull.

I know just the BB has a list in the thousands already and more are added to it every week.

Understanding that there mgiht be some VIP tents but that will be something that is brought up - not that supporters should need beer to survive and watch the game - but pre game and post games drinks are part of the festivities.

You are missing the point. You seem to be confusing actual season tickets sold and a wait list. The Comsos currently have no tickets to sell. Registering on a site is not buying. How many might actually go through and buy season tickets? A very small percentage of the people who signed up on a website.

I am not confusing anything, pal. I am well aware right now we are talking about the email to sign up for info on ST's when they become avaiulable. I have mine in as well.

Do you happen to know what the interest of the signed up people are? What qualifies you to state so surely that only a "very small %" actaully but tickets? What do you consider a very small %? 50%, 20% 5%??

I would wager that given the relative obsuraty of the Cosmos annoucnement thus far, the % of people that took the time to decalre anfd interest to buy tickets will do so at a much higher rate that you seem to beleive.

I read once that a small percentage of the registered emails with the Philly Union ever translated into Season Tickets purchased for them. And they had/have quite a few season ticket holders.

So I think to assume that the season ticket number is grossly inferior to the registered email address list is a fairly safe bet.

Um, the Union sold out of all 12,000 season ticket packages before the start of the 2010 season. How many email sign ups for season ticket interest pre-sale do you think they got?

I have no idea. They just said a small percentage. You do realize there are 6 million in the Philly metro? Imagine interest in a NYC team. And brand recognition will be a big factor too.

I hope Cosmos sells a ton. But equating season ticket # to website emails is a little ludicrous.

That is where you have to go to get on that reported list. I have to think someone going there, clicking tickets and then takking the time to fill out the form has to have at the very least some actual interest in buying tickets or season tickets. Granted you are correct that clearly not 100% will do this, but i hesitate to claim that only a small percentage will. I would expect that the odds are quite high that someone going there and signing up will at a minimum buy tickets at some point for next season. I assume a lot will depend on the pricing policy and whether those that sign up see value in the purchase, even if they don't they likely are to buy single game tickets here or there.

Also keep in mind, they haven't even launched a ticketing or slaes effort yet. Surely these numbers will increase from November thru March when such efforts begin. I don't see how you can look at the reported number of 3-4K right now and not be somewhat encouraged. Most NASL markets would kill for that kind of initial interest without doing anythign other that make a press announcement and have a minimum web/social media presense.
