Seems like a great guy, he's dead on about Iranians being emotional. I think it's somehow deep rooted in our culture. Also I'm glad he cleared up some common misconceptions about what it's like for an American to be living in Iran. Thanks for sharing.

There is no misconception. I think there were a few US basketball players in Iran a while back who liked it. Im not sure if they still play in Iran though.

Thanks for sharing. Great video. I certainly agree with the emotional and physical analysis of TM. We are too emotional. And while physically, we may be one of Asia's better sides... we certainly are not physical enough to be able to do well in a WC.

I believe the reason why Iranian players are overly-emotional about the game...is the same reason why we're really good at inventing or creativity.

Traditionally, because of the spiritual culture.... Iranians always placed a strong emphasis on going with intuition and instinct. In other words, Iranians were encouraged to be right-brain thinkers. Unlike the west, where the culture is more focused on left-brain thinking. Now one of the side-effects of right-brain thinking, is we get overly-emotional about whatever work we participate in. So it's not a surprise we're seeing it in TM.

In fact, having a lot of players who are right brain thinkers can potentially give Iran the edge in global competition. All the best players in the world have this trait, especially the Brazilians. But there needs to be proper infrastructure and capital to focus on these talents. In fact, not just football but other aspect of economy, Iran can be very successful, but we have to approach it in a suitable manner.

The reason why Brazil in the past was so successful, is because they had the perfect mix between right-brain and left-brain thinkers. Their left-brain thinkers occupied defensive roles, while the right-brain took up offensive roles. For the right-brain players, there was a lot of patience. They were given a lot of time at a young age to develop and make mistakes.... something that is necessary to develop right-brain players.

I'm far more of a "left-brain" thinker but when I take those diagnostic tests, it always ends up being half and half. We are NOWHERE close to the Brazilians in creativity...however, I agree we perform best with that style but our best record was with Eastern European management (Branko, Blazevic) when IMO, we don't have the height to be compatible with that style of play.
