Not that I put too much weight into stats like "teams who lose their first game have x% chance of ...", but what the heck does winning a Super Bowl 4 years ago have to do with their odds of success in the next 15 games?
Falcons. I was pretty much just Alabama football and US Soccer for the longest, but I'm branching out. My girlfriend is from Atlanta and LOVES the Falcons (a difficult thing to do, I know, I've heard all the jokes. ) I got into watching games with her last season and found myself enjoying it. Julio Jones being on the team also makes it an easy transition for me. We're going to to the Falcons/Panthers game in a few weeks and I'm looking forward to it as it'll be my first ever NFL game in person. Well, that's kind of true. I saw a Falcons/Redskins pre-season game as a kid, but this'll be my first time seeing one in person that actually counts.
If Denver loses to the Falcons then the Texans are more then capable of going 3-0 for the first time in franchise history. Oh yeah, I know its Jacksonville, but we can't be that underrated since we just gave them their franchise record for lowest total yards in a game.
OK, so what is the deal with Welker and the Pats? I must have missed something, but why in Heaven's name would the Pats sour on only the most productive receiver in the NFL over the past 3-4 years? The guy is money. And Brady overthrew him anyway....
Guy with a B(C)S title ring, a conference title ring, a Heisman trophy, a multi-million dollar NFL contract and more women chasing him than he can shake his dick at has a shitty game. Guy with none of the above celebrates wildly online over the shitty game. We'll ALL be blessed if Cam steals your computer. You're a piece of work, Alberto. I don't know what's funnier- that you're disrespecting the Giants defense and defensive staff (they've frustrated a fairly decent QB in their last two SB wins, y'know), or that it bothers you that an SEC program is finally willing to pay for athleticism they've been breeding for almost 400 years.
Well first off Auria, you should know I am a Giants fans since I was a kid. That's over 45 years of following the Giants since the days of Fran Tarkington, Joe Pscarczk, Scott Brunner, Phil Sims, Jeff Hosteldeler, Kerry Collins and Eli. I know the qualities of the team and Coach Coughlin very well. My beef is with I'm so blessed Scam baby Newton. He is a phony and his dad as a Reverend is disgrace for trying to extort money from colleges. Lastly, yeah thanks for bringing up he stole a laptop of another student while at Florida. Says a lot about the lack of character in Newton. Also, look at how after his sensational start, his numbers have been inconsistent. Good game followed by a mediocre or poor game, good game, bad game. After his first two 400 yard games he has had only 2 300 plus yard games since. His QB rating which was at 84 percent last year is now at 78 percent. That places him at 24th in the league in passing rating. So yeah I'm wrong for having no respect for him and all the shady crap he and his dad did.
It's SEC football. Get whatever you can get, get out healthy and get into the NFL. I see no shady in it whatsoever. Stealing the laptop was wrong, and he ought to have been punished more for it, but he wasn't. Cam would never have been let off that easy if he'd been a regular student.
I'm not even a Giants fan and I know without Googling that these guys' names are spelled Tarkenton Pisarcik Simms Hostetler Every one of these guys played most of their carers with their names on the back on the jersey (the AFL always had them, IIRC, and the NFL adopted them after the merger). I mean, you saw them week after week after week. I'm not saying folks can't have a point without being able to spell, but this is crazy bad.
You are such a piece of work. Nice attempt to try to discredit me but you do realize the Tarkenton and Paterson Plank Joe and Simms played over 25-35 years years ago. My misspelling of their names proves nothing about your supposition that I'm not a Giants fan. What I did find interesting is you did not refute a single statement that I made in my post regarding Cam Newton because just like the Giants what I wrote was the absolute god damn truth.
Read my last sentence. If it sounds like I'm questioning your fanship, read it again. It's not news that you're a Giants fan. You've told me that before, in fact. It was last year or the year before when you were frothing at the mouth (again) about some other NFL or college player's lack of character and I brought up LT. The post about your spelling is a post about your spelling, period. I'm just one of these people who finds it weird that anyone could see names in print for years and not remember how they're spelled. Dude, I never claimed your post was false or even misleading. For some reason or another, you don't seem to understand that Cam getting money from Auburn is no biggie. I'm not arguing your facts- I'm just curious about why it matters to you.
It matters because several years after the fact Reggie Bush had his Heisman and USC vacated a ton of wins as a result of Reggie's mom getting a house to live in gratis or close enough. If history repeats itself That would result in Newton being stripped of his and that is just bad for football. Of course you might be fine with it and not give a damn. I'm not as jaded as you on this matter.
So? He was gracious enough to send it back to New York. I'm Reggie Bush, I got a Super Bowl ring. They want the Heisman back, I'll get up one morning, set it on the front porch and go back to bed. The Downtown Athletic Club better be quick enough to grab it before the yard sale folks do. If you're saying that him being caught and stripped of his Heisman and Auburn stripped of their title would be bad for football, you ought to be hoping it doesn't happen whether you think Cam's guilty or not. It's either already happened or it never did. Dude, everyone knows who the best team was on the field in 2010. Oregon isn't going to verbally claim any sort of title because Cam was ineligible- and they won't waste one second whining about it, either. You play against the team that shows up at the stadium. You win or you lose and that's it. The stuff that concerns me and that I think is bad for football is the lack of a playoff involving, at the very least, all the conference champs. If they can't get that going, none of the other rah-rah stuff matters. You're referring to a halcyon era that never really did exist. I have a lot more disdain for the days of yore than I do for the present. No, I never bought into the whole Boy Scout as bigtime college athlete thing, and the people who spend the money those athletes earn for them don't buy into it, either.
Auria I still expect Universities to set a proper example. That means the program is clean. No boosters plying recruits with tits and cash. One last thing you criticize me about the misspelling what about the fact that you don't know that the Air Force Academy name is the Falcons and not the eagles.
Then your expectations are going to be met at an ever-decreasing rate. I'm just saying. Even if I did care what treats recruiters and boosters use to get talent to come to their program, my expectations wouldn't be guided by my hopes. I acknowledged it and apologized for it. That said, the Giants have been on TV a lot more often over the last 40 years than the Air Force has.
Ryan Mundy better be suspended for his dirty hit on Darrius Heyward-Bey. He had no intention whatsoever to play the ball. When will players learn to not use their head to hit another player??
LOL Honestly, it didn't look like an intentional dirty hit to me. Still, should've been flagged, as such contact has been flagged recently, intentional or no. ******** Meanwhile, hopefully the Jaguars defense learned a lesson about keeping poised when things don't go their way. They've had some great performances the past few years, but tended to fall apart when they suffer a bad call. We saw that again yesterday. One (incorrectly) called-back INT, and they proceed to give up 14 unanswered points in the first half. I don't know what Mularkey told them at halftime, but it worked. We've now won 4 of our last 5 against the Colts.
They are still in first place. Don't care what the standings say. The Jets have beaten the Dolphins and Bills. The Bills have beaten the Browns and Chiefs.
Hatriots are still the best team in the AFC East. The Jets barely won yesterday against the Dolphins, who are really an atrocity. Yeah, the Jets beat up on the Bills in Week 1, but since then, they've looked very ordinary. The Hatriots don't look as dominant as they once did, but they're still the best team in the division.
