^but why wouldn't he visit an Ajax game since Ajax is highly visible in SA with Ajax Capetown?

Not really, I think it's great for Enschede! Of course he could also be a front runner lover and given Twente's great start this season why not go see the first place club.

Actually Munsterman talked about him wanting to visit over a year ago. If anything it's to do with Twente's charity work I reckon.

    haha nice post !
anyway, really unlucky result for Twente today, if Castaignos would finish at least one of his chances, three points would (and should) stayed home...

Well exactly. We played them off the pitch in the first half, we were great. Which overall leaves me feeling positive about this season. We were better than than the number three in the Bundesliga, and if we can play like that even without Fer and Bjelland, we've got a real chance to win the eredivisie.

Yeah he did not leave a lasting impression when he was here. But if you look at how Schlaudraff played at Bayern compared to here, or Huszti at St Petersburg it is a very normal thing to happen. We just don't put down statues of players (not even Enke), but on the other hand we haven't won a championship in over 50 years.
    On the game(day):

Travelling was relatively smooth if only Deutsche Bahn would not have messed with my brothers' schedule. Enschede is a typical Dutch town, very nice, very suited for shopping, which my brother and dada loved and I loathed. Oude Markt is a nice enough location, though on Thursday it didn't seem more impressive than what you can do in Amsterdam or Groningen (which was somehow how it was presented to me over the years. Urinals going out from the ground are an awesome idea though, I want that for our Opera square!
The riots on Oude Markt were stupid and unnecessary, and while both groups clearly were no angels (plus there were Schalke hooligans walking around and it was clear what they were there for) I guess some of our 'fans' did provoke it. No wonder if future clubs will treat us more like we were treated in Liege last year than we were welcomed in Enschede (which really was with open arms by most of the population and authorities). We were sitting at oude markt when they first started ('only' a few chairs and tables thrown into the no man's-land), but quickly got up and went to a nice restaurant nearby to be out of the way and also not be in the situation of being escorted to the stadium.
I really don't get why some of our 'fans' were so aggressive, the facts it's a Dutch team and the friendship with Schalke aside Twente is a team that has the Saxon Horse as a logo, is nicknamed 'German' in the rest of the Netherlands, and plays in red (and has the same smiley face on the shirts), I don't see why we need to be especially hostile against them and can't behave like most fans did in Copenhagen last year. I guess it was worsened by the fact that only so few tickets were available to us though, if we would have been 10 000 like we were in Copenhagen the vast majority of additional fans would not have been troublemakers, meaning the number of trouble makers would have paled in comparison.
The stadium is nicely situated and easily to navigate. The way Twente treats the visiting fans is close to scandal though, blasting us with techno music before the game so that nobody could hear there own words, leave alone sing and create an atmosphere for the game, and constructing the outer wall so that the view on some seats is totally obstructed and the acoustic is seriously worsened. I hope Twente will see that you can do that differently on the 22nd of November and maybe incorporate that for future extensions. Same goes with additional tickets if you can't sell out your own stadium, actually.

As regards the game itself, Twente was clearly the better team, we were lucky to come away with a draw. Both teams are as of yet unbeaten. It was clearly 96's weakest game this season. Twente was also clearly more impressive than Bremen or Schalke this season, weak opponents in the league so far aside I think you have a good shot at the championship this year, and rightly so. On the other hand the lucky points we got over the last 2 games (and arguably the Schalke game) are also the result of hard work, if we do not repeat the 1st half we have good chances at overwintering (German/Dutchisms ftw!) in the EL and making it into Europe again at the end of this season. The team no breaking showed a strong mentality at work.

Leaving the stadium and celebrating into my brother's birthday on Oude Markt was very nice and we encountered no problems, though we again were able to visit the riots in front of the stadium, this time in the safe distance and while sitting in a driving train, so that was much more relaxing. Again, I don't get it at all. If you want to beat yourself up meet each other in a forest somewhere but leave the police and the normal fans alone!

I am very much looking forward to the game on the 22nd of November, I still think Twente and 96 are better than Levante and Helsingborg, and I hope 96 can show it's worth at the home game.

The techno thing wasn't aimed at Hannover fans Squig hehehe. We always play hardcore before kickoff, particularly at European games. It's to entertain our own fans, not to piss off the opponent.

Glad you had a (relatively) good time. Best to ignore the idiots, there's always some. I work in the city centre and saw people on the oude markt getting their first beers in at 11am, it's hardly surprising that trouble ensues...

Is the techno really so loud all over the stadium? I wanted to download an app and measure the decibels as I was sure it was louder then EU regulations allow if it would not have been so expensive.

Other than that and idiots aside my sympathy for Twente is strong as ever. Music wise I am very happy I moved back to Germany though, seemed almost new-kids-achtig to me.

I think you'll find that they were #7 of the Bundesliga.

We are 3rd atm though. Twente was also just 6th of Eredivisie last season, but they played like the deserve to be on the 1st spot right now.

Tied 3rd with 3 other teams after 3 games. That's meaningless.

It really is that loud all over... It's partly why I no longer visit the Vak P home, I'm too old for that stuff. But we've always been a hardcore club, it's part of our identity almost.

I've nothing against Hannover as I've told you before! Respect for the way they kept on believing in a result. Obviously I wish Castaignos had his scoring boots on but never mind, overall I'm proud of the way they played in the first half. Esp considering that we were without Fer and Bjelland.

I'm cracking up over the fact that a German fan comes here to show his respect and all you do is continue to belittle Twente. I'll just let people who read your posts draw their own conclusions hehehe.

Just as meaningless as the 4th spot two years ago (giving Bayern a run for their money (and they have a lot of money) for most of the season) or the quarter final in the EL last year (our first international season ever, basically)? You are a piece of work. And 7th in BL would probably be equivalent to a top 3-4 finish in NL, so what exactly is your point, anyways?

Well congrats with winning 7 points in 3 games buddy. I'm sure Bayern would be just as proud as you are. My point is, that you're not the 3rd best team in the Bundesliga.

Just bringing some nuance to "neeskens" claim. That's all.

She didn't claim we were the 3rd best team. She said we are on the 3rd spot. Which is the case. What's your point?

Great for summing up what I do not like about Twente. They are a brick in the great cultural hegemony project of the German people. If one domino falls, the others dominos are at risk. Luckily, Twente plays in American kits and not in Puma or Adidas.

PS: the Saxon horse was formerly known as the Twentsche horse.

It was renamed into Twentsche horse after WW2, really. Just like Westphalia, Lower Saxony, and all of the Dutch area next to the border except Limburg, Twente was a region of the German tribe of the Saxons. I don't think Saxon culture (which has nothing to do with the German state of Saxony, beside the name) has much to do with German culture, which is predominantly (linguisticly, religiously) dominated by what is called central Germany. Therefore saying that keeping to those old traditions, that are much older than the Dutch nation, Twents ppl undermine Dutchness is laughable imo. Multiple identities and cultural shift have always been a part of European culture, just because some people think that nations are the non plus ultra of cultural development that will not stop.

Never mind Squig. It's just standard anti-Twente rants and insults.
