Thought this might warrant it's own thread. Mods, feel free to merge if you disagree:

Goooal!!!Development at Wonderland Might Include Soccer Stadium

A groundbreaking development at the former Wonderland Dog Track property is apparently knocking on the City’s door and it could include a 15,000-seat soccer stadium with accompanying parking.

Sources told the Journal this week that talks regarding the building of a new soccer stadium at Wonderland have escalated quickly as of late, and the entire plan is now apparently running hand-in-hand with the casino proposal at Suffolk Downs.

“They have been in talks for awhile, but things are really moving quickly now and the talks are supposedly in the final stages – even though the actual plan is probably far off,” said the well-placed source. But he would not reveal who the city or the track is in talks with regarding the stadium development.

As always we have to consider all aspects of this. The Ward councilor says he doesn't want it.

Definitely need a serious upgrade to the road infrastructure for this to really work. I'd say if they could get Wonderland a stop on the commuter rail(It passes RIGHT NEXT to the property), which could mean 2 Public train lines to the stadium; could be pretty sweet!

John Powers is a 900 year old crumedgeon that gets reelected only because he's been around forever. He's not an issue.

The roads are going to be fixed up by Caesar's when it opens at Suffolk Downs

Only 15,000 seats? I hope they have plans ready to upgrade to > 20,000. At 15,000 seats, it would be the smallest SSS in the league by far.

I'll let you know when I see any plans on the road infrastructure proposals. It's going to take a lot more than what Caesar's allotted though..for sure!

Oh...! I get it! Sometimes I can be fooled by my own optimism!! LOL

Having tried to pull the wool over fans' eyes in the past with "INCREDIBLE ANNOUNCEMENTS" during STH renew program. The sneaky marketing of KSG decides to have a little local news outfit run a story to pump the juices of the minions who follow the Revs/Soccer.

How much of a bump do we foresee from this latest "breaking news" on the stadium front!

Quick someone change the stadium thread to "final stages" LOL

Consider not one Revs source was quoted, I doubt that story came the Revs.

I could understand if this was the FO saying "we're really close" again, but its not. Claiming that KSG is pumping small time news outlets with fake stories is crossing the line into conspiracy theory territory.

Moreover, I'm guessing the Revere Journal has more sources within the City than within Kraft Sports.

    Yup.
And this part of the article says it all:

"Nothing could be confirmed this week on the record by any City officials or anyone involved in the discussions.
City Councillors said that they were not aware of the escalated discussions, and that they were curious about the plan, but skeptical about the traffic implications."

So promising, yet still so many questions. Let's not get our hopes up. And yea, the first thing that came to mind was: "Another PR attempt to drum up interest in season ticket sales."

I'm assuming it will be closer to 17-20k. This isn't a very detailed report, the guy probably just said offhand that it was somewhere around 15k.

This is the news I've been waiting months for. Even if it's not true, or just a bargaining chit for Krafty, or valid, but with obstacles, it's something! And the biggest clue for me as to its validity is that the Mayor is mum about it. That to me indicates there is something here. Otherwise he would have just denied it. Lastly, yes, the 15k figure is so as not to scare the traffic NIMBY's. Obviously a 25k arena is what will be needed for a rejuvenated Revs franchise!

Given that the source of this information is unnamed, it could very well be the Revs. This smells like a trial balloon. They might be floating this out there to see the public reaction. As for the seating, if it is the Revs putting this out, they'd be unwise to lowball it. Can you imagine the sh*tstorm if they suddenly announced they wanted 5,000 to 10,000 more seats?

"Talks are in the ... final stages"

Translation: our ward councilman have just about had it with these socca' guys runnin here and there, talkin about 15,000 cahs cloggin our streets. Forgot it. We'll have another meeting or two, but that's it, and then this thing will finally be ovah. Then we can start cookin, cleanin, leavin and joggin.

I'm on record as saying a stadium at Wonderland will be the mother of all traffic headaches. That said, if the Revs do decide to build there, I'll STFU about the traffic, and become a season ticket holder.

    Mr. Kraft, are you listening?
