Why is it difficult for strikers to be successful at Juve?

...in the last 12 years or so since the departure of inzaghi....besides our beloved captain ADP and Trezeguet, i cant think of a striker that we brought who was very successful. However before and after it...they have...

examples such as; di vaio, miccoli, ibrahimovic, amauri, toni, borriello, quags, matri........feel free to add to the list ( i dont count zidane and nedved as strikers...more like CAM)

why do we have a hard time finding a striker that is successful here? Matri and quags had a great start but one got sidelines with injury, the other for no apparent reason...even giovinco struggled at first and then found his form in parma and the NT...now he's back im happy but i hope he gets his chances

Because people on this board put too much stress on them and they are too nervous to perform..lol..j/k

I think it really comes down to the us not having the right strikers with the right team. What I mean is back when Trez was putting in 20 goals a season, our main philosophy was working the back and crossing the ball (Camoranesi, Nedved, etc.) In recent years we never had a strong midlfield such as Pirlo, Marchisio and Vidal. We had to rely on players such as Sissoko, Tiago, etc. Therefore, our strength was to attack from the sidelines and having a striker like Trez up to was fundamental. And ADP was great as he came back into the 3rd of the field to retrieve the ball and work his magic, where as someone like Matri plays his back to goal and waits for service. However, we do not have the right players to provide that service.

Now, we are more of a ball on the ground attack with quick passes as the ball being worked through the middle of the field. Each ball has been going through Marchisio, Pirlo, Vidal and then being distributed through the sides and on occasion there is a cross. However, more times than not, there is always a quick one touch in the air over the opposing defenders on on the floor to Giovinco/Vucinic where our midfield will work off of. When you think about it, we do not have real wingers unless you count Pepe and Isla as ones. I think they are more support strikers in a 4-3-3 formation rather than how Camoranesi was.

That being said, I believe Giovinco and Vucinic will benefit more than Matri and Bet in our current system. I am not going to say that either or will score 20 goals, but I can see them scoring 10 goals as well as providing 10 assists. We can debate which is better some other time. In the end, we need to have the right strikers in the right system.

For example, if we had Toni years back when we used to attack from the sidelines, he would have put away 20 goals himself. However, we had Toni in the wrong system, where we played with the ball on the ground and making runs in the middle of the box. Therefore, we did not utilize him well.

Doesn't it make you wonder why some of the strikers you named di vaio, miccoli, and ibrahimovic, went on to be great at the clubs they played for. Maybe we did not play to their strengths.

ya and thats the thing, all these people arguing about our strikers and wanting their fantasy players thinking it'll work...they either dont know the history or they fail to analyze the game rather than the final score and some stats. I hate it when people use stats to define a game, this is football u cant put stats on many of the performances like it is in other sports.

i think in conte's system not many pure strikers can be successful, i dont care who we bring in. which is why u see him play gio and vucinic which like u said can score 10 goals or so but they wont be a 20+ scorer. He also doesnt rotate these players much which does not help with their team chemistry.

Higuain is the perfect striker for Conte's system. I don't go by stats, i go by talent ;)

Zlatan, Miccoli, Di Vaio did well or weren't really given a chance. Amauri, Toni, Borriello, Matri, Quagliarella are 3rd tier talent at best. Last time we paid serious money for serious talent was Trezeguet and he was a success. Since then we've basically been cheap.

Very true. Quagliarella has a knack for scoring crazy goals.

Ive always believed in Quags and Matri as well....they just need chances which conte is not giving them much. Im glad he got this boost of confidence in such a high profile game and opponent...def good for him.

its funny now u all see what i meant about Quags....just a month ago and all of last year many thought we should sell him, he's done, etc....

now its the same with Matri....people think he's 5th choice, he's done, we should sell him

moral of the story is give strikers their chances and if they didnt come thru like amauri then u make up your mind. When they dont get good chances u cant expect them to work miracles. I really hope to see more of matri so he can get his confidence back. This vucinic is always #1 needs to stop...why does he get so many chances despite bad performances and someone like matri and quags do 2 bad touches and they're benched for 5 games. We need more rotations, i like vucinic too but he is getting way too much love from conte

i still don' t rmember people saying sell quags. Only selling I got was "well juve doesn't play quags just might as well do him a favour and sell him".
Also, Mirko is by far the best player up front for Juve. Yes he disappears, seems lazy and at times is wasteful but by far the best up front on Juve. I don't see Gio, quags, bentdner or Matri being able to pass, command double teams and just be creative as Mirko bottom line

Mirko is able to do that cuz he is a regular no matter what. He can be terrible 3-4 games and still play...its not the same for others. Especially how sporadicly they get playing time.

by the way, borriello already got 2 goals in 4 games when he only scored 2 for us all last year. lol im not saying we should've played him, he sucked for us but just proves my theory that for some reason strikers are more successful other places...i wonder if its the pressure of playing for a big club or something

So your saying if Matri recieved the same playing time he would be as creative and command the same double teams as Mirko?

he already pulls double teams. Mirko's role is to be creative while matri needs to get in space to score but he does have creativity too

I don't think I made myself clear but I'll say this. Presently on this team their is no one that can replicate what Mirko does on the pitch. Thats how lacking this team is for forwards. Giovinco is the only player with similar skill set to do what Mirko provides this club. However; I have yet to see Giovinco prove he can do the same. Maybe he can if given enough time but having a team that hasn't lost in Serie A since Vucinic has been given this roll its hard for a coach to automatically tell him to sit down and go in a different direction. Quags has shown some proof he deserves to start over Giovinco with Vucinic. Giovinco has to prove he can start without Vucinc there.

So complain all you want about Vucinic getting too much time, dissapears and makes lazy passes. I say right no there is noone on the bench that can sub him.

agian not enough sample size for you to make that judgement.
playing vucinic and gio together creates conflict too, i like to see what gio can do paired with other forwards. and not just one or two games
