I don't expect we'll have to wait very long before the Romney campaign realizes the damage from these clips and performs one of his patented Romney flips...

I thought Romney cooked his own goose last week after the Libya fiasco, but this takes the cake.

I'm not at all shocked that he said any of this, however this is no way to win over those undecided voters that voted for Obama last time. I work myself through school, he gives his son a $10 million dollar head start, and somehow I am the entitled one for wanting a modern healthcare system.

    Stay classy, Mitt.

Isn't this about the 37th gaffe/decision by Mitt that "will cost him the election" according to conservative bloggers? I can't even remember what it was that Erick Erickson was hyperventilating about, because that was dozens of news cycles ago.

I think it simply comes down to the fact that he literally cannot connect with anyone, other than the few people in his social class.

None of these things have changed the polls much at all. It does make watching two virtually parallel lines inch across the graph day by day a bit more interesting I supposed.

This - not sure why folks think this will do anything except continue to drive lots of folks in the middle away from the election. Still plenty of support out there, and I know lots of them. They'll chalk this up to hyperbole and accept the apology to come.

    Elections befuddle me.

Part of Mitt's new strategy of offering more specifics about how he would govern.

If Obama can get caught talking about guns and religion and still win then Romney can do the conservative version.

For me, this video solidifies everything I've ever thought about Mitt Romney's character. It's the same reason why he won't release his tax returns.

This likely won't kill his campaign, but it makes it a lot harder for him to win. Driving people away from the polls is not what Mitt needs.

Yeah... I searched for the Erick Erickson quote, and it turns out he threw in the towel back when Andrea Saul praised Romneycare. That was already a month ago and it already seems like a quaint artifact of U.S. electoral history! I just don't believe any of these revelations are going to sink Romney's campaign on their own. He's going to lose because he's a lousy candidate.

    Stay??

But I doubt if this will have much effect. Most people know this is what Republicans think. In fact, it's the one thing the Tea Party, the Christian Coalition, and the Uber Wealthy all agree on.

Exactly - whose opinion will these remarks change? People have already made up their minds about both candidates' personalities. The only thing the undecided are still undecided about is whether a Romney victory would be good for the economy.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of as well. It's a close call which statement is more offensive to those who'd be offended. But my bias says the offense machine is more finely tuned on the other side.

And he still won, so maybe Mitt can brush it off.
Oooooooohhh!!! >>> please let Mitt try a Jay-Z "Dirt off your shoulders" move... pleasepleaseplease....

Not sure I agree with this. I would say low turnout benefits the GOP.

and declaring war on voting through restrictive laws...which they've been trying to implement in a few states.... But damn what he said in that videos is incredibly insulting...As i hear a commentator explain.... so people who claim veteran benefits....people who've retired from working many years.... students who are paying off their loans and making ends meet to better themselves... these are all a bunch of moochers.... those who get their children free school lunches, SCHIP as health coverage.. might have as call all those people bums...because it gives the ultimate impression that such term is where he is getting at in that vid...

Thought I heard a sonic boom earlier; turns out it was just the Romney campaign's spine snapping.

Low turnout of presently undecided voters does not help Romney.

The peril of this video is that it will drive those voters either a) away from Romney toward Obama, or b) away from voting altogether.

Romney's campaign would be hurt (probably fatally) by either eventuality.

Exactly. You have to do more than get the "base" excited to win the election (2008 anyone?).

I highly doubt this will win over independents. Like Knave said, it will excite the base and alienate the rest.

I have a hard time imagining these comments will drive undecided voters away from Romney when his myriad other insulting comments about people outside of his tax bracket have failed to do so.

I guesss you are way underestimating the impact of his fiasco. For one, it was the headline news today for all the networks. It is raging on the social networks as we speak.
His comments are insulting and repulsive to the Obama voters and will energize them even more. They will turn off the undecided and independent and move them to the Obama column. They are very damaging and there is no Etch-a-Sketch that can fix this crisis 6 weeks before the polls.
His comments in their magnitude and timing can not be compared to Obama's during the primary.

    IMO, They are just devastating.

Doesn't that depend on who is staying home? If right-leaning independents or on-the-fence republicans stay home because they can't stand Romney or Obama, that wouldn't be good news for Mittens.

You think angering voters who would never vote for you (Obama) is anything close to anger damn near half the country?

I think you missed his point. Romney is the one who said that there is 47% of the country who would never vote for him no matter what (because of x, y, and z). Why would Romney care about angering people who aren't going to vote for him? The popular talking point today is about how Romney's comment will turn off undecided voters. Undecideds by and large are going to vote on the economy. It was certainly an inflammatory comment, but I doubt it will sway the undecided voter who is actually engaged, understands the concept of political campaign hyperbole, and cares first and foremost about the economy.
