Gotta have money to follow. Assuming SA and NY spend crazy money, the other teams will go bankrupt within a few years, if not sooner. The only thing this does is get rid of the playoffs and open up the month of July for friendlies. Unless WSW stops responding, I don't see how that is possible.
Uh, no. Dude practically walks around with a 'kick me' sign on his back...which he put there himself. You can't expect to post complete garbage and not be called out on it.
Ok do you go to Rowdies games? because it's weird first you talk like a fan then when the league announces something revolutionary you turn into a troll just like the other 2 trolls who don't support NASL.
So.. What's the advantage of this system anyways? NASL isn't going to be taking advantage of the international windows because they can't afford to, Cosmos and SA not withstanding, and other leagues aren't going to come calling because the players in the league aren't going to have significant value. It's not like they couldn't do international friendlies in July with the current system.. Is this just a "Latino-ization" of the league hoping the Apertura/Clausura system will make them more interested in following the league?
who says they can't afford too? when you talk about buying players it's either one extreme or the other? I hope you know their are more leagues in the world besides the top 5 leaagues. Downs has stated that they have no salary cap "within reason". I guess the unanimous vote by owners means something that you or any NASL hating troll can't comprehend.
There are benefits. Starting earlier means possible friendlies with MLS teams in preseason, instead of local college teams and the occasional game against another NASL or a USLpro team. A break during the worst of the summer isn't a bad idea in alot of places. That month can be used for international friendlies if the teams can afford it. With the way the schedule is set up now, the only way to have friendlies is during the middle of the week. A month off from league games would be good for those friendlies, teams will know they have open dates and can schedule them further in advance, hold them on the weekend and sell more tickets (theoretically). I'm just not a fan at all of resetting the points and having a one game playoff between the winners of the spring and fall seasons. Would rather have seen a single table format or maybe cutting playoff teams down to 4 for now. Seems like selling tickets might be tougher for the team that wins the spring season. Also seems like it might be tougher for the poorly performing teams, especially in the fall season once they have nothing to play for. Which could be early. Will have to see this played out for a season or two before we can really conclude anything I guess.
Yes. I am a supporter of the Rowdies. And the NASL. And minor league soccer in general. The difference between you and me is that I have a more advanced understanding how soccer, economics, and the world works. We are realists. Not complete loons who contradict themselves.
The players that are available for the small amount that most NASL teams can afford aren't going to be that good, WSW. Until NASL teams vastly improve their attendance, sponsorship fees, etc. you aren't talking about significant purchases here. Just switching the season format isn't going to make money fall from the sky. It seems to me that they are implementing a system that is going to be foreign to a sizable chunk of their fan base.
Well tell that to these loons: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/what-about-adopting-the-apertura-clausura-model.1874115/ https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/what-might-an-mls-apertura-clausura-look-like.1596737/
I agree but too increase the attendance they need to have more friendlies against significant teams, more signing of some players from south america or mexico. look we have Yamada their is a japanese fanbase that follows him to every game and Yamada played in J-league not your huge demographic in FL.
I would suggest you read those threads rather than just find threads with Apertura and Clausura in the titles.
I wasn't referring to the NASL schedule. Your diminished mental capacity has a long and storied track record. That is what I was referring to. As a person who follow soccer not just in America, but also in general, I do find this idea intriguing. I personally see some (minor) upsides to it. I also forsee some problems with it. In the end, it won't really be revolutionary. It won't change the quality of play (which I care about most) or attendance.
Changing the schedule will not bring players from Mexico or South America in and of itself. A little thing called greenbacks does that. I shudder to even think what you think a 'significant' team is for a friendly. Once again, having a month break in the summer is not going suddenly make a Bayern Munich-Scorpions matchup happen.
I was thinking about it......... is it that if you win apertura and you don't win clausura you play the winner of clausura for championship, but if you win both are you the sole champion?
That's generally how it works in leagues with a similar championship game, but I suspect they'll be doing second best team faces them instead.
If I am reading the press release right, the Winner of the Clausura (Can we just say Fall?) hosts Soccer Bowl. But its a pretty confusing press release. Is this how Mexico does it?
Also, in the press release it seems to indicate if you win both seasons (Fall & Spring) then they pick a #2 team to play the Fall winner in the Fall winner's home venue for Soccer Bowl. Here is one take on the news: http://www.examiner.com/article/nasl-to-move-to-split-season-2013
Yeah that part of it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I think they should just scrap the "soccer bowl" idea. Still, switching to this schedule is definitely a good thing. I've really liked all of the steps NASL has been taking.
I find this new format intriguing. I would hate to speculate the good and bad of the format, only time will tell. I like how the NASL has their scheduling now, with minimal weekday games, and not cramped like the USLPro schedule. Although the playoffs could be 4 teams instead of 6. How is the weather in Edmonton and Blain in late March and late October?
Stop thinking, it isn't your strong suit. Try reading the very stuff you post: "Following the conclusion of the fall championship the winner of the spring championship will host the winner of the fall championship (or, in the event the same team wins both competitions, the team with the second-best record for the full year’s games) to determine which team will be inscribed on the Soccer Bowl as the NASL’s annual champion." There you have it. A ONE GAME final (moronic, right?) hosted by the spring series champion.
