It seems Jóhannsson, a '90 who plays for AGF Aarhus after a move from Icelandic club Fjolnir a couple of years ago, was born in the States. Here's an article that discusses the matter:

    http://www.tipsbladet.dk/nyhed/superliga/aron-johannsson-paa-usas-landshold

He's listed as a striker. He appears to be a player of some talent -- he recently scored a hat trick in less than four minutes, then added a fourth a few minutes later, in a Danish Superliga match.

21 y/o leading goal scorer in the danish league, this kid sounds pretty good! However, it seems like he is pretty keen on staying with iceland.

My Danish is rusty. So he plays for Iceland's U-21's?

Wow. Both of the 1st 2 really nice, especially the 1st one. Nice touch & finishing. It's time to send this young man a fruit basket.

It bears mentioning that Iceland can't offer him a chance at regular World Cup participation.

It's a sign of progress that he couldn't just walk right into our frontline now.

His connection with the US seems to be stronger than even some of our Germans. He went to the IMG Academy and spent the end of his high school years here, and presumably has many friends still back in the States(at least according to his fb). He also played in the USSDA's inaugural season in 2007-2008 for IMG. You can find him in plenty of box scores online.

Where does he say this? Not doubting just can't speak Danish or find anything where he says this.

"but it is not something that has filled so much. I went back to the U.S. when I was 17 and lived there for a year, so the light means something to me, but my goal is to beat me through the Icelandic national team. It has always been my goal, says Aron Johannsson to tipsbladet.dk." very rough google translation goes on to say he has no contact from the US

Holy crap- what are we waiting for? Dave, you should be on Juergen's payroll.
TASK 1: GET THIS KID. He's leading the Danish league in scoring with 7 goals!
Beats the hell out of (when we picked up Boyd)

What baffles me is that Iceland hasn't called him up to the full team and still has him with the U-21's

Maybe he's Timothy Chandler-ing them and he doesn't even know it.

That said it looks like Iceland has a good young crop of strikers.

Its interesting that the USA has played a role in his development. But let Iceland have him. They need him way more than we do. I cant imagine there are more than a handful Icelandic players in MLS or youth academies

Really? Look at the glut of young and talented attacking options Iceland have. I disagree that Iceland need him more. He is at best 5th among Iceland's options at striker. On the other side of the coin he would be 5th on a US striker depth chart at the worst and that's if you include Dempsey. If you don't include Dempsey, he could make a legitimate case for as high as 3rd on a US striker depth chart with his resume.

Considering Iceland's total population is 319k, they are amazingly efficient in generating talent.

Agreed and based on the similar age of their top talents I would say they are experiencing something of a "golden" generation. Unfortunately for them almost all of them are forwards/wingers or midfielders. Basically none of their highly regarded youngsters are defenders or goalkeepers.

He said that in the interview, but today Brian Sciaretta tweeted saying that he is open to playing for the US. Sciaretta usually has good info. He also said everyone's questions would be answered in the next couple days, which may mean he has an article coming at YA or with the NYT.

While your point is a good one regarding our olympic prospects, he probably wouldnt have switched for anything less than a full NT callup, and may not even switch then.
