Those Schahin goals were certainly impressive, but it looks like he just went for power and got lucky that they came off well.

I would be extremely surprised if he scored more than 10 goals this season.

No he likely won't score too many. But still, the power of those shots was Hammergeil!!!! They certainly weren't Sonntagschuße. Wen you think about it many goals have an element of luck to them in some way or another.

    I agree.

But I guess we should not forget the fact even a crappy player like Delron Buckley once had a 15 goal Bundesliga season.

If that happened, anything can happen! LOL!!

    Some quick stuff:

VfB Stuttgart advances to the Europa League Group Stage with a 1-1 draw at Dynamo Moscow. Stuttgart won their home leg 2-0. All three Stuttgart goals were scored by Vedad Ibisevic.

VfL Wolfsburg's Czech international defensive midfielder, Petr Jiracek, who just joined Wolfsburg for 3.5M Euros in the winter transfer window of the previous season, has been sold to HSV for a reported 4M Euros.

Bild is once again reporting that the Javi Martinez to Bayern transfer is "perfekt." Of course, they also reported the same thing 13 days ago. Apparently, this time, Martinez will be in Munich tomorrow (Wednesday) to seal the deal. We shall see. Story in English.

Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg have made an offer for FC Scheisse 04 and Greece defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos. Scheisse boss Horst Heldt confirms the offer, but stated Scheisse wants to keep the player.

Former Hoffenheim boss Ralf Rangnick is reported to be interested in his former defender Isaac Vorsah for his (Rangnick's) new club RB Salzburg. Reported fee in discussion is 4M Euros.

Croatian international Luka Modric finally completed his transfer from Tottenham to Real Madrid. Former Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia reportedly says Real paid far too much and Modric is not worth the reported 42M Euro price tag. If he actually said this, I agree with Almunia........

I agree 100%..the little fella is good - produces bits of magic here and there, but 42M is ridiculous...try half of the fee
good piece of business by Spurs....played hard ball with Modric's transfer for the past 14 months and made a killing on this transfer

More quick stuff. I'm sure some of it is old news.

The great saga has apparently come to an end. It seems the Javi Martinez to Bayern transfer is finally done! Can I get a "hallelujah?!" Or however you spell that word......

Gladbach coach Lucien Favre still says his club can make the group stage of the European Champions' League despite losing their home playoff leg 3-1 to Dynamo Kiev.

Former Bayern goalkeeper Michael Rensing has completed his transfer to Bayer Leverkusen from local rivals 1. FC Koln (Cologne). Rensing will be Bernd Leno's backup at Leverkusen.

Apparently, FC Scheisse 04 is in talks to bring FC Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Ibrahaim Affelay to Gelsenkirchen on a loan deal.

HSV is apparently still interested in buying former club hero Rafael van der Vaart from Tottenham.

Tottenham is apparently on the verge of landing French international #1 Hugo Lloris. They signed Fulham midfielder Moussa Dembele on Tuesday.

Goal.com is reporting that Juventus has snatched Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov from under Fiorentina's noses.

Spanish club Malaga has made the CL group stage for the first time in club history. The CL group stage draw is tomorrow (Thursday).

Real Madrid's Fabio Contreao has been suspended for four matches for verbally abusing an official during Real Madrid's defeat at Getafe this past weekend. Contreao will miss Real's Super Copa second leg match against blood rivals FC Barcelona.

Any news on Dempsey?? Things looked pretty "hot" over the last few days but rumors died down. Looks like with the sale of Dembele, Jol and Fulham may try to work out things with Dempsey after all.

Martinez, van der Vaart, and Afellay in one week would be good business by the Bundesliga.

I have nothing against your asking Cris. What I'm about to say below is just how I feel about the overall situation.

I can't say I really care that much about the situation anymore, so I haven't looked into it much recently.

    Here's where I left it.

I thought it was ridiculous that he'd even want to go to LFC. I believe Jol is lying about some "strike" by Dempsey and think both player and club want him to move. However, I also believe there are no takers and they're stuck.

I'll start caring again when someone involved starts acting grown-up.

And if they do, they'll probably do what you said and work it out.

But I also really have a hard time seeing Petric and Dempsey co-existing peacefully. They are essentially the same player.......

I heard that the only "takers" was Sunderland and that he rejected it. There is nothing official from that what-so-ever...just a bunch of reposted tweets from anonymous sources - and we know what that means.

    Really? How so??

The way I see things, it isn't as if "the Bundesliga" made these transfers.

Also, vdV and Affelay are pretty much castoffs.

vdV in particular would be joining a shitty team.

Serious question. What am I missing here?

None of these three transfers gets me excited for the Bundesliga.

The Martinez transfer gets me excited about the battle we're going to have with you guys for the title.

The other two do nothing for me.

Something will probably get done between now and Friday. I'm not wasting any of my time with where Clint Dempsey might wind up.

I like the guy, but unless he's going to somehow wind up in the Bundesliga, I really don't care.

I should have said good business by Bundesliga teams. They will, however, draw more attention to the Bundesliga as a league from outside Germany.

Anyways, those players being castoffs is not a big deal at all to me.

    As far as performance goes...

Afellay is coming from Barca where they are absolutely stacked in attack. Draxler is not exactly a model of consistency yet, and Afellay would help balance Schalke's attack with Farfan on the right.

Van der Vaart was a key figure last season for Tottenham in qualifying for the CL under Redknapp. Him, along with Jiracek, will make Hamburg more competitive.

I don't think it will do much for those already in Germany or for those who are already familiar with the Bundesliga.

Seeing recognizable names coming to the league will gain new interest from abroad.

I think Martinez certainly does make it a battle. It could go either way over the course of 34 matches now.

Really? From who? vdV has been here already. Do you really think more Dutch are going to watch than are watching already because vdV MIGHT return or Affelay might join Huntelaar's team?

Any more Dutch than who already watch because of Huntelaar and/or Robben?

You really think the Spanish are going to pay attention to the Bundesliga just because Martinez went to Bayern?

    Really??

Sorry. Not buying that. They think they have the greatest league in the world. And they might be right.

Not to mention that Martinez is joining the one German team most of them already know anyhow..........

Well, seeing that Affelay is being castoff because he didn't perform.......

Barca got rid of Bojan Krkic too. He isn't exactly tearing up Italy. Some call him a failure.

Just because a guy doesn't make it at Barca, it doesn't mean he'll perform elsewhere.

Best case scenario, yeah, he might. Worst case scenario, he comes over, shows why Vilanova wanted nothing to do with him and is a big waste of time.

Either could happen if the deal goes through. Let's not act like only good can happen.

Jiracek isn't scaring anyone. If Jiracek was that good, Magath wouldn't have dumped him.

HSV is mess. They're going to need more than Jiracek and vdV.

    IF they even get vdV..........

You aren't convincing me of that one. Not when two of the three players are from a country who already has stars playing here and one of them already played here.

It could have before. This just makes it more exciting.
