I'm not saying its likely, but the Quakes would need 19 points over their last eight games to get the record (6 wins, 1 tie, 1 loss). Normally, this wouldn't even be a discussion, but to end the season, the Quakes have the following schedule:

Chivas USA - two games - home and away
Portland - two games - home and away
Seattle - away (easily the toughest remaining match)
    Dallas - home
    Colorado - away
    Los Angeles - home

LA holds the record with 68 points back in 1998 over a 32 game schedule. San Jose currently has 50 points over 26 games. LA had 67 points last year (34 games). San Jose was the only other team to break the 60 point barrier with 64 in 2005. Neither LA in 1998 nor San Jose in 2005 won MLS Cup.

Assuming SJ clinches the Supporter's Shield, where would the MLS Cup final be played if SJ makes it that far? Surely not Buck Shaw. Hopefully Stanford Stadium as the Cardinal wrap up their football season the weekend before.

This year and/or next year, likely in Stanford Stadium.

Afterward, in the San Jose Earthquakes' new stadium.

Assuming Stanford isn't in the running for best record in the Pac-12 and hosting the Pac-12 championship game the night before MLS Cup (probably not, but stranger things have happened in the Pac-12 when it was the Pac-10).

I am pretty sure it will be Stanford Stadium. AT & T park will be empty on December 1st also as they will be getting ready for the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl which will be played 28 days later on December 29, 2012.

Wait... I thought that SKC was going to win the Supporters Shield with a record number of points.

I'm expecting Seattle to set the record next year, and rather than 2.375 pts per game, we'll be able to do it with only 2.03 pts per game. Plus we only have to do it in the Western Conference, and if this year proves anything, it's that the East is the stronger conference.

I still have a feeling construction will conclude before 2014. Not sure if its wishful thinking or not but I can not believe it will take 15 months to build this thing.....

I'm embarrassed that I don't know this, but does the Pac-12 go off of overall conference record, or just division record?

True but Crew stadium was completed in 9 months. After they drive the stakes and beams and whatever into the ground, what more is there to do? I mean we aren't tearing anything down, just building it up. I seriously doubt it will take 18 months, unless they take their sweet time.

Then you should frankly know enough to know better. Flipping houses, or even starting ground up, is in no way comparable to a stadium and the structural/foundational/regulatory requirements that have to be gone through to build one.

DSGP in Commerce City is the closest comparison in terms of size, and had a similar empty site, and it still took damned close to 18 months to finish.

Considering the area on Coleman Ave by Airport West where the FMC plant was in San Jose, (which I doubt you've ever seen or been to), I know full well what it takes to build and complete a project. Crew Stadium was built in 9 months and that was 13 years ago. There is no way anyone can convince me construction is a lot more difficult today, than it was back in 19998/99. After the initial stakes are dug into the ground , everything should flow quite nicely. It all depends on how much personnel they have working and how soon they want to get things moving. I'm sure the SJ weather (especially as opposed to Colorado's) will not be a factor in delaying completion.

From what I understand people in other parts of America won't catch the joke here, referencing commercials that are, apparently, local to the northwest. I had always assumed they had different regional commercials along the same line, but I've been told they do not. So maybe we are just a little bit different after all.

Best conference record in each division plays in the championship game, with the better of the two records hosting. Each team plays every team in their division and 4 of the 6 in the other division,so your division record goes a long way towards your conference record.

Did they shut down construction during the winter months?

The frustrating part is that Stanford has to play USC in the regular season as well. They got shafted with the California rule. With trips to Eugene and Seattle as well, they have their work cut out for them this season. Is there a contingency for Stanford Stadium as well?

They begged for the California rule! Them and Cal! The teams that got shafted by that are Washington and Oregon (and to a less extent Wazzu and Oregon St.), not Stanford.

While I have nothing but respect for Crew Stadium, it is practically an erector set compared to modern SSS.

Everyone seems to say the same thing. Of course you have and make a valid point but seriously that was 13 years ago. After the initial structures are set in place, what more can possibly be done? I mean 9 months to build it and 9 more months to build or install all the new amenities? I just don't believe it will or would take that long unless they lengthen out the time span, then that is another story.

I think you're simplifying the construction process.
