If he wants to transfer, i'd like it if he stayed in England, but I think playing for a solid Bundesliga team wouldn't be a bad idea. I liked him on Sunderland but not with more competition coming on. its whatever.

Also, him on that poster doesn't mean much.. Wasn't PJS on that ManUtd bus right before he transferred?

he's only been there 1 season I don't see him transferring. maybe a loan in january if he isn't playing but not a transfer

If a 20 year old Guidetti comes in, then he should hand in a transfer request.

If they stop acquiring strikers after they get Fletcher, then he still has a future at Sunderland and should learn while training with Fletcher and Saha.

I'm sure you could do better.

So, Hodori, tell us, where should he go?

    Fine.

    1. He's on low wages
    2. He was bought for a low transfer fee

So if Sunderland end up with Fletcher, Saha, Guidetti, Campbell, Johnson, Wickham and JDW, then they would have a surplus of forwards. [Forgot to list Sessegnon]

If he's not in MON's plans, I don't see them standing in the way and demanding a transfer fee that is much more than what they originally acquired him for.

While his wages may be too much for the K-League/J-League structure, they are reasonably in line with wages in Holland, Germany and the Championship.

At the very least, given his wages, I don't see why a loan to a championship club could not be arranged with an option to buy. Last time I checked, Steve Bruce still hasn't been sacked at Hull.

It's great that your optimism has you thinking he can force himself into a nicer situation by requesting a transfer, but I think your calculation is missing the part that Ji Dongwon hasn't done anything since his arrival in Sunderland to attract interest from half of Europe. Not one club would be interested in him at the price tag (3m euro plus options) Sunderland will ask for.

Whatever happened to your 'Ji Dongwon should never go to a Championship' argument anyways? It was only months ago when you shot down any suggestion of a loan to the lower division. Now you want him to open up to not only a loan but a possible transfer into a club in the Championship? Maybe your not so tiny imagination is providing huddles to your decision making process, but make up your mind lol

We were all very disappointed that Ji didn't get much playing time last season, but when he did see the pitch, even if the playing time limited, he didn't show anything that had us saying, 'his lack of playing time is injustice to his performance'. He simply didn't do enough to claim for more playing time so complaining about lack of minutes and asking for a transfer would be silly business. Only when he has shown more flashes of his brilliance, and when his minutes aren't increasing after the display, he should seek a permanent move. Meanwhile, if still desperate for playing time, a loan will do, although, if I had to guess from his form at the Olympics, he will earn his way into a more important role at Sunderland no matter how many strikers they buy.

Excluding super talents such as Hazard, there are very few players in Ji Dongwon's age group getting consistent playing time at this level of football. In a league where tons of players shuffle around clubs to see the pitch, 1 start and 10 sub appearances in 6 months were more than enough indication for me that Ji is well within Martin's plans. Martin wanted Ji to get bigger and he's gotten a big chunk of that project done. At the Olympics, he was starting to show that he was adjusting to his bigger frame, a sign that wasn't so apparent during the June qualifiers. It's time for Ji to show O'neill what we all know he's capable of and he shouldn't shy away from this challenge like certain someone in this forum would.

Why are you such an angry person ksock? LOL

JDW should never go to a Championship side imo based on how I value him. But if his manager does not trust him yet, then a 6 month to 1 year loan there would not be a terrible idea to get his European career back on track. He also has the benefit of time on his hands with his exemption now.

I would prefer his going to Germany or Holland [on a permanent deal - just to clarify]. Despite not seeing any playing time last year, I believe he still holds sufficient goodwill value as well as intrinsic value from his tournament showings for a manager in need of a striker to take a chance on him.

    Differences in opinions.

You have a lot of faith in Martin O'Neil w/r/t JDW. Why is that? I'm just curious.

MON's going out there and is linked with buying 3-4 other forwards. And the types of forwards that he likes are very traditional British style forwards.

That situation was more PJS orchestrating a move out of Man Utd than Man Utd wanting to push him out the door.

But point stands that Ji plastered on some marketing tools will not make or break a transfer/loan for Ji.

this. Ji is young and needs time. being the most used sub in the EPL is not too shabby for a 21 year old bought for 3 mil. he just needs to take his opportunities this season and keep scoring. and hopefully double his goal count. most strikers tend to be late bloomers its rare to find them at such a young age fully developed.

How are 10-15 minute substitute appearances going to benefit him in the long term?

Now that he has military exemption, he can plan on a longer term approach to his European career. I think he can take the risk to ask for a transfer out on loan this season to get much needed match minutes.

Besides, if the striker situation at Sunderland were the same as last season, i.e., threadbare, then I wouldn't be worried about his fighting for minutes this season. But MON is on the verge of acquiring a glut of strikers. Where will the opportunities come from other than through a string of injuries... And MON is not the type who likes to rotate his squad.

Doing what KJC did to find minutes away from Wolfsburg is not a bad option imo for JDW.

Totally agree with this. Him being young is one of the biggest reasons that he should be loaned or transfered to a club where he will receive more playing time. Sure he has time, but getting some confidence and scoring goals in Europe will help as well.

Guidetti will be out until October so I doubt Sunderland will get him now?

And Sunderland should loan Ji out, why not.

not going to happen until January if ever. Wickham will get loaned out first and Ji still has to prove himself which MON said he will give him the chance...but you never know with MON

Right. MON showed no interest in rotation despite having their spot in the table sewn up. Two appearances in the final two months!? And I think even in the cup matches he had key players go through the full 90, hardly using his subs despite matches in two days.

A loan would be great for his confidence I think at the very least, and get him some valuable playing time. Structure @ half-seasons with one of MON's pals and the burden to Sunderland is pretty minimal.

Wickham, I think they want to get rid of. They just paid soooo much money.

He'll get out on loan i reckon in the Jan window. There is no way anyone would buy him for the amount Sunderland paid for him (10-13 mil was it?)
