People always forget the infrastructure cost in building a stadium. That's an area you usually try and get the locay city or county to chip in on or pay for. And then when they do, people see what they are spending and think they are helping to pay for the actual stadium and get all up in arms. When it's really just improving the infrasturcture that they support in the first place.

BBVA didn't have that infrastructure. Neither did Bright House Networks Stadium. In fact, infrastructure costs were likely higher for BHNS, since it's not within an urban core and they likely needed to do more running of utilities than they would need to for this prospective piece of land.

Here's a baseball stadium that transforms to a soccer stadium! Now all we need is a ml baseball team to move here and foot the bill.

    Sapporo Dome
The highly advanced and technological stadium 'Sapparo Dome' is a multifunctional and innovative framework that is able to easily transform itself from a football (soccer) stadium into a baseball park as seen at the image below.

The system is as simple as it is sophisticated. Raised on a pneumatic system, the playing field is made to rotate and pass through a mechanized 90 meter opening of two moving walls. The field can either be placed in an artificial basin below the stadium or transported outside where the grass can grow naturally. The whole transformation process takes only 5 hours to complete.

The stadium was constructed by a group led by architect Hiroshi Hara. It has the shape of a large '8' which is created from the union of the two lengthened circumferences. One of these circumferences constitutes the actual stadium: the arena is characterized by a single ring of continuous tiers which form a circle around the conical surface. Tribunes are automatically moved throughout the field depending on the sport - a rectangular tribune is used for a soccer field, by rotating the tribunes a diamond shape is formed for baseball.

The dome was inaugurated on 02 June 2001 and also serves as a meeting place for local citizens, consequently the stadium is nicknamed 'Hiroba' (the public square). Moreover, the stadium offers a great attraction, namely the existence of a 53 meter high cupola from where there is a beautiful view over the city. From the outside, the stadium looks like a futuristic complex thanks to the aerodynamic shape that can open and close depending on climatic conditions.

Hell, Rogers Centre does that. The problem is, that will cost a HUGE amount of money, not to mention take a ton of power to move entire stands back and forth.

Oh.... buzz kill. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. :)

Well, I for one can't wait for Orlando Health Stadium to be built... Wherever it might be, I will be there!

High school football interest in Texas > Soccer interest in most places in the US.

The fact they can ( and have) built American football palaces in Texas has zippo to do with whether anybody can get a soccer stadium built anywhere or not.

A friend of mine got into the President's Suite for last night's match. She heard that the team is looking at western Orange County for a stadium site.

I didn't get any further details, but it does remind me of Mark Dillon's old idea. Back in the late-2000s, he had a memo of understanding that if he got private funding to build it, Orange County would grant him land near the Horizons West community, SR 429 (Western Beltway) exit 15 at New Independence Parkway, for a soccer complex including a 20,000-seat stadium.

As of this date (Google Maps photos, 1/3/2012), they've still done nothing to the immediate east of said interchange. It's a wide expanse of (I think) orange groves. New Independence Parkway doesn't even go into Horizons West yet, though that's the purpose of that interchange.

The soccer complex could be just what the county needs to kick-start Horizons West.

If they go that route, I think its a big mistake. Downtown is where its at, or at least more centrally located. Yes the future looks bright to be there, but like 10 years from now. And like Dammit! I too also used to live 10 minutes from there and think it would have been great from my perspective. But not for OCSC.

Of course if the cost is $100 million+ cheaper to build in West Orange, then that could be a BIG factor.

Apparently, the rumors are growing as to some sort of stadium deal. Now the Scoring Third is claiming there is news imminent.

"The new stadium is fantastic and shows just what you can achieve on a limited budget with good planning and guidance".

    What does this mean?

It doesn't mean what you have been trying to prove... that Rawlins and Company don't have enough money to get into MLS.
It means that you don't have to spend $150-200 million to have a nice SSS.

I've read that Rawlins is worth $50 million...that's pretty low compared to the NY2 owners.

Hm, what city would require wealthier owners? NYC or Orlando? If you don't know that, then you know nothing of the geographic locations of the two cities. Seriously, just go away man. You don't bring anything of substance to argue to the table. You keep gasping at straws because Garber said this:

After seeing that beautiful stadium in Chester, I can see Jacobs having no problem funding something in Parramore or even Pine Hills. :)

I guess I'm the only one reading too much into that last paragraph. :)

Which part of the last paragraph? Sounds like Rawlins thinks a refurbed Citrus Bowl will do for a start and then they will move to a SSS later. Is this something different?

I was suggesting that the last sentence makes it sound as though Orlando starting MLS in 2015 is a done deal.

Obviously, I'm the only one who's reading that between the lines! :)
