Interesting. Good for any Chivas USA fan. Not LA proper, but do you really want to drive to down town LA every weekend? I don't.

A railway to the stadium is a plus!

I would bike it to downtown every week so I wouldn't mind. Having the railway is a huge plus though. =D

I know bros. But will the casual fan, families, soccer moms, etc, fan do the same? Highly unlikely. That's my point.

Where there's smoke - there's fire. I can't see all of those renderings not meaning something.

I personally would get tickets and I am a Galaxy STH/supporter (to put it in perspective). The Inland Empire is an outstanding location to augment the existing MLS landscape in Los Angeles county. The proposed area is a stone's throw from my house and even though I cheer against the goats (respectfully), I'd still be heavily in favor of this move for the league as a whole.

The Inland Empire has developed talents like Landon Donovan and Carlos Bocanegra and continues to be a great proving ground for future talents. Assuming they really can deliver a proper academy and training center - I think this could be a great addition for not only Chivas, but the MLS in general.

    Fingers crossed.

Not a bad post there for a Galaxative fan.:p

Our FO has made it clear that when we move it will be closer to the Downtown area, the Inland Empire is nowhere near the downtown area and if I know our FO they would more then likely say no thank you. The fact that they keep on saying that they intend on moving closer to the downtown area; don't get me wrong as long as we get our own stadium and move out of the HDC I'm happy either way, but I don't this move happening simply because this move would go against everything they have said over and over again making them into bunch of hypocrites. Whatever happens I'm sure it will have a very interesting ending so I'm just going to sit back and watch.

To hire an architecture / design firm to mock up those renderings:
    • Can't be cheap (meaning they spent money on designs)
    • Obviously shows they're heavily considering the idea (in my opinion)
The season is halfway over, and you'd think by now you'd hear more buzz circling about Chivas' new home. So far, the only rumors we've seen are the move to the Inland Empire. I can't see where the Chivas would go in downtown Los Angeles except the coliseum. And even that is only (likely) an interim move until they build a permanent facility. A move to the coliseum seriously neuters the team's ability to sell any sort of luxury suites or permanent signs or banners. Obviously the coliseum will cater more to USC given the larger draw.

-- Although one wonders how important that is to the bottom line of the team.

With the obvious ties to Corona and the family money, the move to the IE makes the most sense to me. The demographic is PERFECT. I would bet more Corona gets sold just in Pomona then the entire Los Angeles city proper. I would venture a guess too that the latin community is more densely populated in the Inland Empire than downtown Los Angeles.

If they're really going to stick with the Chivas brand and moniker, they'll really want to place themselves in the best location to leverage that. Like it or not, Los Angeles proper will always likely be the Galaxy's -- much the way the Lakers are always going to be the city's darling over the Clippers.

If I were the Chivas' owner, I'd be looking to get as far away from the Galaxy as possible to really carve out an individual identity. But that's obviously just my point of view.

Excited for the league, and I'm hopeful the team succeeds with the move (except when they play the Galaxy) :)

    Respectfully...

The latter, sure. The former? It might be cheaper than you think. For all we know the drawings were part of a design competition. The firm surely got a stipend, but in the grand scheme of things, it might not have been that much. If it was a design competition, then other drawings from other firms certainly exist somewhere too.

Still, the whole thing is odd. It doesn't even seem like these guys are an actual architecture firm, let alone stadium designers.

Pomona seems to off the table now. I think we're reading too much into this stuff at this point.

You're right - great point. Perhaps they mocked those up as part of their bid/pitch. And on that note... I'm floored they'd be "allowed" to post the designs to their portfolio without an official announcement already made. You'd think the club would insist on NDA's and secrecy during the discussion process. Although maybe in the grand scheme of things, they figure the MLS is so relatively unpopular it wouldn't matter if the cat was out of the bag.

I think the firm is technically a landscape design firm.

My wife could do something like that in an afternoon on photoshop. It doesn't take much time or money to design a few computer drawings. And you're assuming they hired anyone. The firm could have designed them itself bidding on a possible plan for Chivas. The team doesn't necessarily have to have been involved in the process at all. You're jumping to conclusions that have as yet no basis.

As for why they've been allowed to "reveal" them. They own the drawings they've made, they're free to do with them as they please, particularly if the project either isn't going forward (which seems to be the case) or they lost the competition.

I suppose anything is possible. I do (for what little it's worth) work in the design industry. And it's considered bad form to post portfolio work before a company can unveil it officially. Furthermore, it's trademark infringement to post unsolicited 'mock ups' using a company's brand without expressly saying something to the effect "These designs have no official connection with Chivas USA, etc."

You're absolutely right, we're literally all just speculating. However my two cents is that a big firm like this wouldn't take the time to just do an unsolicited design without getting some sort of remuneration. They just don't strike me as the type of business (considering their existing clientele) to do speculative work.

My guess is Vergara's people reached out to the firm considering their previous work on Colorado's complex and asked them to put together some renderings of what a move to Pomona might look like. The sketches were probably presented to sponsors and/or partners for use in discussion.

Any move, short of the coliseum, will not be feasible by next year. So you're probably right in that:
    • The Chivas will be right back at HDC next year
    • The Chivas will go to the LA Coliseum (either in the interim, or permanently)
    • The Chivas will not be in Los Angeles County and will migrate somewhere else.

It'll be your option 1 or 2. There really isn't anywhere for them to move on such short notice, and more importantly no desire to do so from ownership. It'll be the Coliseum or another year at HDC.

New here... Hi, names Jathan... anywho... the thing about Chivas moving up north to Exposition Park maybe seems to be picking up a bit of steam behind the scenes? A workshop at USC led by Staples Center lead architect at NBBJ, now at Populous, Dan Meis http://www.meisarchitects.com/ was held a while ago. The purpose of the project was to redesign Exposition Park and while some of the designs are more radical than others it is clear that Chivas USA has a prominent role in all.

Dislike USC. Dislike Chivas - and with that said, I agree 100%. That complex would be amazing for the league in general. What a beautiful looking facility. That area is in desperate need of a makeover.

Awesome finds. And some awesome concept designs not just for the Chivas USA facility, but the entire project looks incredible. Let's hope it all begins to pan out...

Nice find. Unfortunately, all of the Chivas USA stadium concept designs have just been that, concept designs. Nothing confirmed by a city or hired design firm, which really bums me out. Pomona, Santa Ana, USC, make it happen. We need our own home.

After the last "home game" I wouldn't mind playing at a CC stadium for next year. If San Jose can do it successfully, why can't we?

I want my stadium to be silent for a few seconds when the visiting team scores. :D

Why so pessimistic? A little optimism can go a long way. At the very least these renders show steps are being taken in the right direction. And SC for life EyeNigma! :D

No offense, bro. You are obviously new to this subject. We (hardcore Chivas USA fans) are tired of empty words and promises.

How bombtastic would it be if this were true though. I just had a school event at fairplex in Pomona and there's a lot of potential there to. How far are most of you from Pomona?

For a being a "hardcore" fan of a franchise that's only 7 years old and one that only started talking about building a new home during their 4th year in the league, you really must have a minimal amount of patience. Try losing 2 NFL teams and have to put up with real empty words and promises for close to two decades. Look at the Houston Dynamo for example. It took them 7 years to get their stadium built and that isn't even counting the 10 years the previous San Jose Earthquakes spent before they moved. Its no secret, stadiums take time.

Ontario, yeaaaaa buddy! That said, I would much rather see a stadium built next to Citizens Business Bank Arena than in Pomona. First choice would be Exposition Park of course!

    Those workshop renderings were "cute".

As much as i'd hate to admit it, their best move would be going to Anaheim. Anaheim has more appeal than the Inland Empire. I have constantly heard Galaxy fans say that the Gals are moving into Farmers Field in the future, why the hell would we want to be neighbors again?

The dumbest move by this franchise, after the stupid name of course, was sharing a stadium with the competition. I just hope that any future 2nd team of a city takes note on how not to do things from this FO. Seems like New York got the hint and is going to build a stadium about an hour away from NYRB. And a Stadium in the Actual state its representing. Imagine that. Actually playing for the place you REP. Crazy, I guess.

I am deeply surprised and moved to see one page without a jonny come lately that says "DURRRRRR, just rebrand to the Los Angeles Aztecs and all the problems will go away. DURRRRRRR!" So moved that I posted (obviously). Ok, im back on sabbatical now. Commence flaming. :)

That's a great idea. How about going as far as Downtown Los Angeles since LA doesn't really have a team ;)

Didn't ownership already say no more HDC and they'll be in the COLI next season? From what i've read on this subject since it was a subject, and more specifically what i've read this year; it's not Coliseum or HDC, It's Coliseum or anywhere but HDC. Which, quite frankly, am glad of.

Thanks for joining the thread BUT lets keep the anti chivas remarks for a different thread ona different forum.

I dont see Chivas leaving HDC next season, as much as everyone wants them to I just dont see it. I also dont see a Farmers field for another 5+ years and think the City of Industry option is afar better option for the NFL.
Chivas wants out of HDC it has to make good business sense and have a better long term vision before they will move.

None of those teams mentioned have a big mouth owner like Jorge Vergara. The talk of of a new stadium has existed long before the "4th year". I had tons of patience before I realized we were getting played by Vergara. Action, not promises. That's it.

Now that is a total load of BS. How in the blue hell have you been getting played by Jorge Vergara when his single role with Chivas USA as 25% owner has always only been that of proprietor of the Chivas name. This is Antonio Cue's franchise as the owner of the other 25% that MLS doesn't own, so your 7 years of frustration have been directed towards the wrong guy. Clearly I'm not so new...

I know about the "rebranders," bunch of dumbasses who just don't get it... As for actually playing for the place you REP, it really is common practice for sports franchises in the US to be based outside the city they represent. Dallas Cowboys play in Arlington, Tampa Bay Rays play in St. Petersburg, Detroit Pistons play in Auburn Hills, so on so forth... Its all about money and politics really and how much can they get the public to pay for it. As for Farmers Field, that thing is really never gonna get built. As someone who follows the NFL and knows more about the NFL/LA on and off relationship than pretty much anyone else on here, I can tell you right now Farmers Field isn't gonna get done. The stadium planned by Ed Roski in the Industry hills has a better shot than that...
