English League Cup: (Cardiff City were runners up last year)

    Cardiff City 1 - Northampton Town 2

    Northampton Town is League 2.

darn, I really wanted to see KBK against premiership sides... one less avenue to do that in.

    EDIT: score fixed :x3:

Other way around the score line. Got me confused for a while.

I can understand if you were disappointed with his performance at the Olympics overall, but "nothing" is a bit much no? His goal was sweet and his shot on goal vs Japan was decent.

yeah my criticism was harsh but i lost count with my fingers and toes how many times he couldn't control the ball and had a heavy first touch that led to dispossession. his performance made me relieved that he didn't go to dortmund.

Unfortunately tonight we had to play a "B" team against Northampton with many young players playing.
This is because Wales has an international friendly vs Bulgaria tomorrow night and Cardiff has 8 players away for the international matches, then our opening game vs Huddersfield has been moved to Friday night leaving only 2 days from the internation matches for players to rest. Most fans here are glad we are out so that we can concentrate on getting promotion but I hate being knocked out of a cup regardless.

There's still the FA Cup to play against premier league opposition though, and next season when we are promoted... ;)

Assuming Cardiff is able to get KBK cleared by this week, any chance he plays Friday due to the quick turnaround for some of the players on Cardiff?

    No and no.

His work permit won't pass clearance for another week at the earliest. I don't see him playing before the first of Sept tbh.

Bulgaria? Weren't Wales supposed to play Bosnia tomorrow?

Btw, saw Wales against Mexico and Scotland against Team Waldo back in May. Neither were pretty matches/results, but I bet everyone in Wales is happy to be stuck with the Scottish in the WCQ group.

Do you guys think he's going to have to work his way into a starting position or do you think its guaranteed?

Well KBK has to be out of the contry before the clearance can be passed which is what is happening now but it seems like it will be completed in the next few days, but according to the management team the earliest game he is likely to play in will be vs Bristol City away on the 25th August. I will let you know nearer the time if he Will play against Bristol but I have a feeling that the manager will want him to train for a few weeks before letting him play. I think he would be more likely to play against Wolves on the 2nd September at home.

Oops my bad!!!! We played Bulgaria earlier in the year and I wrote the wrong team! Haaaa

Yeah the game vs Mexico was a weird one, we didn't really have a full squad but we did alright, a bit scrappy game and we can't be too disappointed at the end of the day. Yeah it will be the second rival we will play in successive qualifiers, added that the last time we played them we won 3-0 I'm sure they will want to win!
I don't know if you know but last November the welsh manager, Gary Speed who had got Wales from 105th in the world to 45th in one season, committed suicide. So now we are sort of trying to continue building on the team ethos from when we were managed by him and qualify for Rio 2014 in memory of him so hopefully we will do well in these qualifiers :)

From our managers reaction since signing KBK and the Olympics he certainly seems to be a player that he wants in the team so I imagine he will be guarenteed but will probably be subbed around the 70 minute mark, we have too many midfielders!!!

At least he gets a nice break to rest those tired legs. J League + marathon Olympic effort must have been so taxing.

Like CJay said i don't think Malky will be spending so much on Kimbo just to leave him on the bench and he'll definitely be looking for him to make an impact this season. Having said that i do think you'll see a big improvement in kim's game under malky.
As has been highlighted in this thread kim may stuggle when it comes to confidence and the physical aspect of his game and this reminds me of peter whittingham. before malky took over, whitts (though he had all the technical ability in the world) always struggled to stamp his authority on a game and would drift in and out and show occasional glimpses of magic, but since malky has taken over whittingham looks a completely different player. He now looks more aggresive without the ball and often controls games. I expect malky will be looking to do the same with kim.

Can you and CJay lay out Malky's tactics for us?

I only watched the club play Liverpool and WHam last season. All I remember is Whittingham playing deep in a regista-like role in a 4-1-4-1/4-2-3-1.

With the new signings and Bellamy coming back, what does the formation look like? That way, we can give you our thoughts on where KBK might be used as well. Thanks...

I think with the players we have this season, we will be overloading the midfield,
So a 4-1-4-1 is the most likely formation we will play, I think with our center mid will be Whittingham playing the "quarterback" deep midfielder and gunnarson and mutch just in front of him. Then Bellamy loves playing on the left so I imagine KBK will play from the right, possibly switching with Bellamy during the game.

That said I've heard that KBK can play anywhere in the midfield, would you think he would be used as a winger or deeper in the midfield?

I doubt that he's going to play deeper in the midfield. I don't think that suits his game.

He's an attacking mid either in the hole or as a winger (inverted or traditional). But then again, he's not an out and out winger either. In that respect, I guess that would make him similar to Bellamy position-wise...

I think it will be 4-5-1 or 4-1-4-1 like Cjay says. after watching saturdays game it looks like whittingham will play deep but i think he'll also have license to get forward. I think Kim will be used on the wing but i think he'll be asked to tuck in and join in with the midfield three. i hope we can sign a new attacking right back or perhaps malky can try don cowie there as he has bags of energy and will keep the ball whereas mcnaughton gives the ball away 9 times out of 10.

To add to my above post, do think malky will be flexible enough to change the formation depending on the opposition. i think this is evidenced by the signing of the Slovenian, Velikonja who reportedly cost more than £2 million.
This lad is an out an out striker who plays on the shoulder of defenders. This will give us the option of reverting back to 4-4-2 if needs be.
I do think our predominant formation will be with one up top though.
That's what makes this season so exciting for us. We seem to have so many options and this is the best squad i have seen in my 23 years as a cardiff fan.

Ok, so he plays where I thought he would play, I did notice during most of the Olympics matches that he liked to drift in off the wing and would arrive late into the box, like you said playing in the hole. And like thehumblegringo said I think our manager definitely has an idea where he wants him to play.

Yeah I agree, I think until the season is underway this is the position he will be playing. We do need to get one or two defensive players to have what I think is the best squad in the division

Exactly! For once in my time as a Cardiff fan we actually have a lot of depth and the ability to change our formation if the game isn't going our way. Players like Cowie, Conway, mason, mcphail, Ralls, kiss, Harris are all midfielder who are pushing for places in the starting line up. And then with Gestede, mason (again), earnshaw and velinkoja who will be pushing for a strikers place we have a vast amount of depth in the squad. Like thehumblegringo says it really will be an exciting season ahead!

Just in case anyone is interested Wales lost 2-0 against Bosnia tonight with an sort of full strength squad. Three of Cardiffs players were involved at some point during the match.

Kim is neither weak or shy, ask his teammates of Osaka, they often gave him the ball to never see it back. I don't think there's gonna be a problem at this level (at any level actually).

No chance: Kim Bo-Kyung brushed off Celtic's advances for Cardiff switch

More and more I'm happy Celtic wasn't even considered.

    Check out this comment:
If wenger is KNT public enemy #1, dumbass celtic fans are not that far behind.

EDIT: I love how this guy hopes KBK will enjoy the Championship, as if someone would rather be in the SPL.

    No, redknights.

KNT enemies (in order of importance)
    1. JNT
    2. Wenger shibseki
    3. Tom Miller

And yes, the SPL fans are butthurt. After Rangers got relegated, their entire league lost credibility. I don't even think they deserve an automatic UCL spot anymore.
