I think he could sneak in to some friendlies if he committed 100% to Germany only because they are relatively thin at the fullback spot.
Yep, you read my post correctly. Congratulations. To beat Mexico, we are going to need to possession in an advanced position on the field. To keep possession in an advanced position, a striker who can hold up the ball is necessary. Gomez cannot do that, therefore Boyd is better for the situation at hand. It has nothing to do with experience, league, or statistics. Just playing style.
A keeper generally does not make a good captain. He is too far from the run of play over all. Plus they have a natural tendency to try to keep their backs to close to them even when they should be attacking. A midfielder is better for that generally.
like the italians with buffon who went to the euro final. what a horrible captain. or when iker casillas captained over some of the greatest midfielders in the world on spain to a world cup final win.
When did the US National team arrive in Mexico? To get used to the high altitude they should have been training in it for a month. Maybe they trained somewhere else in the US in high altitude. But did it have the dirty air that they have in Azteca? If not they did not train to win. But when you play a lot of inexperienced players your not there to win. Put one or two players in with your starters they may all look pretty good which is great for the confidence of those new players. Put a lot of inexperienced players in at the same time they will look bad. It will not help the confidence of those players and they will lose ugly.
I made my post from experience. Maybe they had more then one captain who did not wear the arm band. But he was there directing the team as a coach would, but was on the field.
All 6 start for their respective clubs but only 3 are expected to start for today's game. I think 13 players of Mexico's team play in Mexico. Holy shit, I just saw that Guardado is now with Valencia CF! He is a good player but I f*cking hate that he plays for Mexico.
They better all start for their clubs. But only three used to the conditions is not very good. I don't think Klinesman really get's the importance of this so called friendly game. It is very important to the Mexican players and to their fans and to their coach. Anyone think if the unthinkable happens and Mexico loses to the US and lost by more then 1 goal. Pretty sure that coach is gone if that happens or left being coach by a thread. So it is not a friendly game to them and it sghould not be to us either. Landon I am sure gets it
I don't think we've ever started more than 1 player at the Azteca, who is based in Mexico, in our entire history.
Lol, stop sniffing glue, everyone knows thats impossible, I mean both things are impossible. Like really really impossible. It is beyond unthinkable so don't even think about it.
A month? You do know that this is a one-off fixture date, right and these guys have either been with their teams or on a break over the course of the past month. Also, and this is a serious question, how many of the Mexican players are used to playing in altitude and smog on a regular basis? The ones who play overseas might come back to Azteca for the odd friendly or qualifier, but it seems like for a game like this the altitude and smog might be less of a factor overall. Not to say that the US has a realistic chance of winning of course. I expect a 2-goal loss. Anything better than that will be a pleasant surprise given our roster and the conditions.
Things change. Mexico doesn't have as much of an advantage with 3 of our starters already playing in Mexico.
That is true, actually. The gap between us is not that wide so Mexico can't win by 3 or more goals, but it is not that good for USA so USA can't win today, sorry.
Or Villar... Or Zoff ... or Shilton ... Or Yashin. As for the game. Yeah, I don't see us winning. A 0-2 loss where we got a couple of good chances wouldn't be terrible. I just hope we don't receive a beat down.
