If he was, that's great. But he started 9 games that season.

If he can do that at that level over the course of an entire season, then we'll really know we have something there.

Sure, he still has lots to prove. But nine games is a pretty decent sample size. Also we have seen his quality in games with the U.S./gold cup, where he played admirably.

www.skysports.com. Read the game reports. Not a perfect source, but generally regarded as playing well, when the rest of the team was SPS (sh!t pure sh!t)

At the most, 9 games tells you a player is capable of playing well. But I've watched enough Premier League games at this point to know that it's very hard to get a good sense of whether you can rely on a player or not simply from a 9 game run.

In non-passport news, sounds like he will play his first official USA games in September.

Any chance a German speaker could give us a translation of this? To be posted in this thread preferably:

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/timmay-too-the-chandler-thread.1721416/

Since people have been asking for a translation of the Bild article, here goes:

Chandler frosted: "This is hell". For [his] fitness [he takes] a batch in the ice- ton every day.

After every training Chandler is shaking/shivering...

Like all Club- Stars (Club is the nickname of FC Nürnberg) Timothy Chandler has to take a bath in the ice- ton every day (Paraphrasing here, can't think of a nicer translation). The bath in the icy water improves the rapid regeneration of the muscles, that are particularly strained during pre- season tour.

Chandler frosted: "It is hell. But if you want to be fit, you have to suffer."

The US- NT player knows that he has to be in top form for the upcoming season. For the fight for a starting place at his club, for his first Pflichtspiel (official match?) under US- coach Jürgen Klinsmann in september.

For this he gladly accepts the daily torture.

Apart from that, Chandler feels very happy at the Club. Also because of that he rejected a better- monied offer from Stuttgart in May and extended his contract at the Club until 2015.

Chandler: "Here I got my chance, that I wasn't given in Frankfurt. For that, I am very thankful to the club."

Eintracht Frankfurt, his ex- club. There Chandler was not held in high regards, which is why Chandler naturally is already anticipating the Bundesliga- duell with the Hessians. "Of course I'm feeling a certain satisfaction."

Meanwhile, the RB has found a home in Nürnberg. "I'm now living together with my girlfriend Nina", says Chandler, who thus has moved out of the shared flat of FC- Nürnberg pal Marvin Plattenhardt. The friendship between the two, who are also sharing a hotel-room in training camp, remains.

"Perhaps in Nürnberg I will cook for him, so that he gets something warm to eat."

But for dessert there wont be any ice cream- guaranteed!

Ugh. Translating a Bild- article. *goes and washes hands*

I also don't usually translate Bild articles, look for the local sources, but this one is pretty straight forward and not looking to be controversial.

Eis-tonne I would call "ice tub/tub of ice water" or "ice bucket"

just read an entry on S by Ives, under the "a look ahead" and saw this...."Just used Google Translate to read an article about Timothy Chandler from the Nuremberg newspaper's website. Looks like he is trying to keep the possibility open through non-committal statements and that it will all come down to Löw". Take it for what is worth.

I am on phone so this is quick. There is a TON of editorializing in this article as if the reporter is trying to make it into a tabloid piece. Here is the last paragraph, which is what the whole article is based on.

[Chandler won't be cap tied until September when the US starts WC qualification. And if somebody from the DFB calls him first? "Nobody has called me," says Candler, "and I don't want to be obtrusive." A rejection/refusal sounds different than that and that would fit perfectly bc Germany's next game is on Aug 15 - against Argentina and Messi.]

I am not going to say that the quote is made up but it it comes across as Chandler being sarcastic or tired of the reporter's questions. And then the reporter wrote a long speculative article based on what appears to me to be a throwaway quote. And Ives, bless his heart, used the highly precise Google translate tool to make it worse.

EDIT: and the title of the article is "TC is hoping for Löw's Call" even though nowhere does Chandler say that.

It's mostly a powder puff peace about how Chandler became a professional, how much he loves Nürnberg because they gave him a chance when Frankfurt didn't (something he's reiterated several times in interviews now, might have something more to do with his reluctance of international football, rather than any undecidedness), speculation from the author about Chandler's NT- future without any concrete facts.

I had a different impression of the direct quote as translated by Hobo though, don't think it is sarcastic, rather it is the standard non- committal replies many dual- nationals normally use when speaking to the media.

Thats very reasonable too. And Chandler could take care of all of this if he would say something like, oh I don't know, "That's a clown question, Bro."

I think some German speakers in a different thread explained that the author of that article merely inferred that, and that there was nothing to actually suggest that from Chandler's quotes.

Just keep quoting thins whenever someone gets pissed that he's not been called in September. He shouldn't get a call and likely won't.

I'm not sure what the lack of commitment is. He either feels German enough to make a 100% public commitment to them or he doesn't. He's never going to get that call if he doesn't make the decision. The longer he waits the more entrenched Eric Lichaj is going to get- kid will only get better as he gets more opportunities.

He said later "I'm going to play for the US in September again".
I wouldn't recommend this trip to any Euro-based player. Preseason, German cup 3 days after the game, Bundesliga starts the next week; and a short trip to a friendly at Mexico won't help anybody. 2 days in the air to play a friendly at altitude in a smog city.

yeah- I think September callup is the real line of demarcation.

If Chandler turns that callup down, I think Klinsmann doesn't call him ever again (UNLESS Chandler calls Klinsmann back one day and says 'ok, now I am 100% ready'. After September- Klinsmann may or may not take him up on it). But I don't see Juergen endlessly calling him up one-sided after September callups

I think Chandler wants to see if he will get a callup for the September Euro camps/qualifiers for Germany. If not, I think odds are good we get him.
