Geoff is supposedly called in for the friendly at the Azteca, or so says his assistant coach. Wonder what this will do to his chances of playing in the game a few days later.
I'd have to say I agree. Personally wasnt too happy when I saw that. Really important he focuses on his time with his new club now. We have other centerback options atm, I didnt see how it was necesary to call him.
The Prem season starts in 10 days- he will miss an entire week of practice, be jet lagged, could pick up an injury in Mexico, makes himself more susceptible to injury afterwards and really tired for days with such a heavy travel schedule. With Huth out, he has a real chance to start the first 2-3 games of season and with good performance, latch onto the position permanently right off the bat. This is really irresponsible by Klinsmann. Cameron had to wait so long to close this deal, couldn't practice with his new teammates for week, quit playing in Houston's games, surely has lost time shuttling around England trying to get setttled (guy probably lives in a hotel with a suitcase of clothes at moment). He can't possibly be totally sharp and fit now. So Cameron is going to be traveling thousands of miles all that week and show up back in England for Friday practice with a Saturday game (his debut?). Doesn't make sense. If you are trying to SINK at guy's career at his club, you call him in for Mexico- not the other way around. I wouldn't blame Pulis for being pissed. I hope Cameron turns it down.
I'd honestly say don't take him if this was ANY other game. The opportunity to get a result at Azteca is about as important a friendly as we'll ever have (other than those leading up to the world cup). I'm happy he will be in camp and I'm hoping he's starting next to Boca. It will be a great warm-up match for the impending premeir league season, probably better than whoever SToke is playing.
he hasn't been playing for weeks. he won't do us any good - especially in azteca. looks like a dumb callup to me.
First of all, this is the best title here in a long while, good shit. If it's scalp-hunting we're after...why are we scheduling this rivalry match at the worst time possible to do this? We can assume at most very begrudding cooperation from the euro clubs on this since their seasons are about to start, and their domestic guys are going to be better than our domestic guys for the most part. I'm not even going to touch upon what happened to letting freshly transferred guys settle into their new clubs before calling them up, yes I know Cameron is going to be in mostly mid-season form like most of the guys in this potentially mostly-MLS roster. Edit: Maybe not zero cooperation, but I assume coaches are going to take more of a Verbeek-like line to this than anything else.
Speaking of which, did you catch the sign a guy was holding after the game today? "Forget Han, I want to be Mr. Solo!"
I think he'll cause Stoke to lose the first game with three own goals and then it'll be smooth sailing after that. I may be a bit biased though.
have you ever seen this? http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spai...i-is-not-good-enough-for-stoke-city-barcelona
I agree with this for the most part. The only defensible rationale I can think of is that Klinsi wants to win in Azteca next year, and since Cameron is at least a possible starter in that game, getting him the experience is more important than for some of the more seasoned guys. I still think it's a mistake, but I'm not in charge. (yet)
Good question. Who knows what the thinking was of scheduling this game.* * $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Really though, its a silly time to play the game, but being that we ARE now facing Mehico in Azteca, I want our best players to be there.
