And our country will wither on the vine until we stop allowing our democracy to be held hostage by the dumbest 20% of the population.
Unfortunately that 20% of the population is also the group most likely to vote.. Unless we make voting compulsory, then the fringe wins.
Let's not go overboard - this is hardly the first time this country has been in thrall to a large segment of idiots.
Fair enough. How'd we deal with them back in the day again? First example that comes to mind: Bootlegging and speakeasies! Sold!
I hate the Sounders like poison, but that's because I have a personal reason to dislike Kasey Keller and that dislike has grown into deep hatred for the entire team. Regardless, I'll always hate the Galaxy more.
Do they just get bored and go away? And more importantly, will we be allowed to use speakeasies while waiting them out?
I'd post a picture of 18 members of a certain ethnic group* to one Tercel, but this isn't world rivalries. *Clowns, obviously. Who did you think I meant?

Well first, we need to stop electing the dumbest 20%. Do a poll of Americans, and what percentage do you think the legalization of marijuana gets? Do that same poll just among national politicians, and the only question is what number after the 9 to write for the percentage of the anti position.
A shocking selection of an example issue here. Do a poll of the same Americans asking the importance of the marijuana issue, and you will get your answer.
They would be objectively wrong, however. Economic policy would crush foreign policy in such a poll, but no one here would argue we should ignore it (even though they main candidates largely agree).
What percentage want Palin for president? That's who you're looking for. There's also lower income Republicans, evolution disbelievers, Birthers.
Hey, you are the one that brought up poll numbers. So, feel free to cherry pick whatever you want. People are trending towards de-criminalization or legalization of marijuana, but they just don't care that much. And when they don't care, politicians won't care. Or more accurately, politicians will side with the ones who DO care the most, even if they wildly differ from popular opinion. You must be new to this country.
Or more accurately, politicians will side with the ones who DO care the most and write checks for millions of dollars, even if they wildly differ from popular opinion.
Yes, but polling on an issue and polling on the importance of an issue to people is not the same thing obviously. My point is that on this issue, and I'd wager more than any other, the political elites are one place and the American people are in a different time zone. And there are definite reasons for that. Yes, as always, but I think this is a bit of a different animal. The one thing politicians like Mr. Romney and Mr. Obama care about more than money is power. The Drug War means power for them. Even if the freedom lobby contributed more than the supporters of current policy, siding with them would mean less power. That's not going away easily. And, some on the left around here will often point out that many of those who vote Republican are really voting against their own interests. Yet, what percentage of people benefit from the Drug War? Very few. The rest would be better off without it. Yet, 90%+ will vote against their own interests and for those who support it. It's sad.
The far left consists of African-Americans and college kids. Since you're not racist, your argument is that college kids are the dumbest people in the U.S.
Can't we all agree that the "No Justice, No Peace!" slogan yellers are equally as dumb as the "Get a brain morans" people? Both sides have their mouth breathers.
