Our team is a totally uncohesive mess that occasionally wins on outstanding performances by individuals. This coach will never BUILD a solid team. All he can do is tear them apart. Fire the rifle.
And don't forget, for those calling Williams out for getting beaten... don't forget Warzycha saying that as long as he has Williams, we are fine at left back.
Well on the bright side, if we don't make the playoffs maybe they will fire the rifl................. oh am i kidding. The FO will just fire Bliss instead even though he has developed alot of talent in our academy system.
I was thinking about this during the game tonight while I was also pondering various critiques for various players. How many people have already labeled Miro a bust, or a likely bust? Anecdotally, It think it's a lot. I started wondering....Of all the players that have been on the Columbus Crew Roster starting from 01/01/2009, how many have actually improved in terms of their ability? All told, I found 64 players that have been on the roster since then. I would argue anecdotally that only 5 have improved under RW's tenure. 21 have diminished their skills for whatever reason (age, style of play, etc, but were not performing when the left to the level they were performing at when they arrived or when RW took over). The remaining 38 are stagnant. Some because they never got their chance (Schoeni, Riggs, etc), some because we haven't seen enough of them yet (George, Urso, Balchan, Arrietta, etc).... Here is my list: WORSE Adam Moffat Alejandro Moreno Andy Iro Brian Carroll Chad Marshall Eddie Gaven Emilio Renteria Emmanuel Ekpo Frankie Hejduk Gino Padula Guillermo Barros Schelotto Jason Garey Justin Meram Kevin Burns Milovan Mirosevic Nemanja Vukovic Olman Vargas Robbie Rogers Shaun Francis Steven Lenhart William Hesmer BETTER Andres Mendoza Andy Gruenebaum Dilly Duka Josh Gardner Josh Williams SAME Aaron Horton Aaron Schoenfeld Alex Grendi Alex Riggs Andy Adlard Aubrey Perry Ben Sippola Ben Speas Bernardo Anor Carlos Mendes Chris Birchall Cole Grossman Cory Elenio Danny O'Rourke Dejan Rusmir Duncan Oughton Eric Brunner Eric Gehrig Ethan Finlay Jairo Arrieta Jed Zayner Jeff Cunningham Julius James Kenny Schoeni Kevan George Kirk Urso Korey Veeder Leandre Griffit Matt Lampson Othaniel Yanez Pat Noonan Rich Balchan Santiago Prim Sebastian Miranda Sergio Herrera Stanley Nyazamba Tommy Heinemann Tony Tchani Thoughts?
We have to be the worst team in the league at passing and keeping possession, which leads to the other team getting more chances in transition and more goals against.
The Crew are certainly a below average team at passing. Makes it all the more frustrating when we have the ball in the other team's box and decline to shoot so we can turn the ball over with a bad pass.
A more likely scenario will see Bliss take over a coaching position at another team. (remember this past year he was linked to another team, I believe Montreal was the one) Which will leave a void. Robert will be here next year. No way does the FO lose the HC and TD in same offseason.
I feel like this team would have been successful in the 2004ish MLS but the league is growing and the quality of player is getting better. I like a lot of the pieces we have but for whatever reasons it seems like we are not getting the best out of them.
The 2004 Crew would easily beat the current team. Busch was about as good then as Gruenebaum is now. Fraser was defender of the year and certainly better than Marshall is now. Marshall then was better than Williams now. We had Buddle, Cunningham, and Washington then who could put the ball in the net.
I think Miranda has definitely fallen off this year, but that's more from age than anything, I imagine. Same with a handful of the guys you have in the 'worse' category. I do think Brunner improved in his time here.
Right. I made no inference as to "why" they were better or worse when they left. I just thought it was interesting.
The first tiebreaker for teams tied on points this year is "goals for" so we're fine. http://pressbox.mlssoccer.com/content/new-tiebreakers-designed-encourage-attacking-play
I vote this for best application of an adapted movie quote. The RW Thruway!? Aw, well, what'll that asshole think of next!
I can't be the only one thinking about how Urso's passing will effectively garner RW a free pass no matter what happens from here on out, can I? Misses the playoffs? Well, it was a tough schedule to finish the year and our boys really had to overcome a lot. We sure tried though. Make the playoffs but go out early? We sure gave it the ol' college try. Columbus Crew : Ready made excuses :: Flies : poop
Sadly, I think he was already going to get the free pass before Kirk passed. Remember, with all the injuries and stuff, RW was really doing "Coach of the Year"-type stuff. Typing that makes my individual fingers want to puke.
I don't think McCullers is eager to move Robert out but if there is pushback from fans, then we might get a new coach.
