Interesting article, especially about his record in the US Open Cup with an amature squad. I wish him the best! Hopefully he will raise the 'Backs profile in this city.

Thanks for that. I hope he makes a splash: the only marketing I've seen for the 'Backs recently was a poster on a trash can near Underground Atlanta. With the Falcons and Hawks starting to figure things out, the 'Backs better be smart with their next few moves.

Atlanta is a fickle sports town, and it needs two things to maintain and improve its status. It needs rebranding, I know its been said and denied, but "silverbacks" is just dumb as a name. 2- it needs to win win win. Hope mr eric w can pull a bunch of W's.

Atlanta is simply a major league city. Major league cities are never going to do well in the minor leagues. I guarantee you that not just Atlanta, but NYC, LA, Houston, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Miami could not succeed in the minor leagues. The markets that could survive in the minor leagues are markets like Birmingham, Tulsa, Albuquerque, Omaha, etc...

We can rebrand all that we want, but for Atlanta to succeed it needs to make the jump to MLS and it needs the right ownership. And for what it's worth, i highly doubt that they'll make the jump as the Silverbacks anyways.

I've been thinking the same thing. NASL may be too small a league for a city of Atlanta's size.

Do you think NASL will sell MLS its rights to the Atlanta Chiefs or Atlanta Apollos and resurrect the old orig NASL club? I'd kinda like to see that. I like the Apollos' emblem a lot. Plus the Kaizer Chiefs' lineage originates in Atlanta Chief's club.

    True.

    Also true.

Really looking forward to seeing a team here finally. Chatted with a coworker today that lived in London and Frankfurt, and so many of my soccer-loving friends would get behind MLS if only there were a team closer than DC and Dallas.

I just hope the name and management don't suck! Not a fan of Chiefs or Apollos, tradition or not.

Still, a fan of Atlanta Legion. Locomotives, Empire, and Firebirds could work too.

Also, i want to bring back up the idea of having for the crest for anyone who knows how to design it on the computer: Have Atlas holding a Globe with a Phoenix coming out of the globe.

Best idea I've heard in a long, loooooooong time.

At this point, I'd settle for the Seal of the City of Atlanta as the shield. It's amazing on its own.
