Sorry to any Montpellier fans looking forward to this one, but being that this friendly is smack dab in the middle of a 17 game stretch in 56 days, we're not going to see many starters.

Any guesses on lineup? I'll go out on a limb and guess it'll look something like this:

    Saad - Dwyer
    Warzycha - Thomas - Aiyegbusi - Olum
    Miller - Hendrick - Markovic - Ellis
    Kronberg/Kempin

Also curious as to whether the youtube streaming channel will pick this one up.

We won't play a 4-4-2, we'll stick with the 4-3-3, even if it means playing Aiyegbusi or Ellis in the other forward role (although I suspect Bunbury will play).

Kempin has a broken foot so he won't play. And I expect our starters to play at least 45.

Probably something like this to start:

Convey/Bunbury/Kamara (or Sapong if the rumors play out)
    Cesar/Nags/Peterson
    Sinovic/Besler/Olum/Harringon
    Kronberg

    But the second half?

    Olly olly oxen free!

I undestand, and we would react the same
no injuries, a good friendly game, a good beer, the fans and the friends, that's all we want

friday night we won our third friendly game, 2-1, after KC, were playing the champion trophy in NY, than 4 days later another friendly in barcelona (espagnol barcelona)
And our first game of the season is the 10th August

If you want to discover the team:
the last game of the season where we won the championship, the auxerre fans stopped the game during half an hour, and their stand had to be evacuated bu the police...

the game before with the goal at the 92'min

I don't know if they'll bring the championship 2012 trophy, it's probably the worse piece of art I've ever seen...but we're champions who cares???:)

Hopefully the traveling fans enjoy themselves, and nobody gets hurt. I wish we could play these European clubs under less strenuous circumstances.

I wish Robb/FO would at least consult the schedule before adding these friendlies....

I hope Olum and Convey get plenty of minutes so they can get their fitness back. We will need both of them (especially Olum) in the USOC final in a few weeks.

I think that MLS is at the Euro's mercy. "We'll come play in late July - take it or leave it." And Don, Robb, Sigi, Bruce, everyone, has chosen to take it the last few years. This has led to some ugly lopsided friendlies (especially out on the West coast last year.)

My dad is wanting to see SKC get a reputation for always beating the touring club (we are unbeaten in recent memory) but frankly I just don't care and wish they'd stop playing them altogether if they can only be in the Euro off season. There's a type of fan who is worried about MLS vs. the world, I am not one of them. We play our own style and our own season. They can keep theirs, we've got ours.

Why do we do these again? The tickets are already included in the relatively cheap ST package, Montpellier and Stoke City aren't exactly big blockbusters for single game tickets, and we're not really at a need for games at this point of the season.

why shouldn't they? as long as they keep these games as mandatory purchases with your season ticket package, they've already guaranteed themselves 12k+ right off the bat.

What I think he means is that since they include them for free with the season tickets, that 12k they've sold will not be making them money like 12k tickets sold individually would.

i think you have your information wrong. these games are not free for sth's. you paid for 20 games - 17 mls regular season games and 3 "other" games. if skc hadn't scheduled a second friendly, special game ticket c would have likely gone towards either a playoff game or would be put back into your account as a credit toward next year's season tickets (they did that a few years ago).

I'd gladly pay the same season ticket price without these games. It's not like season tickets are terribly expensive anyway.

We did however get three free USOC games included in this year's deal, with the option to pay less than 100% of face value on the USOC final ticket. That was a pretty cool deal, especially considering that we actually got to sit in our own seats, unlike last year when they herded us all to the west side and had to pay $10 each.

It's funny how a few years can change things. A few years ago many were begging to actually have one of the friendlies here in KC.

Yeah, you paid for 20 games, but you paid for 20 games at a discounted season ticket holder price. Which is still cheaper per game than single game ticket prices. Not only that, but your Game A ticket got you in the door to three USOC games. If you are in the Member's Section (for example), you can choose to look at it several different ways:

    1) $260/22 = $11.82 a ticket for 17 league games, 3 USOC games, and 2 friendlies
    2) $260/20 = $13.00 a ticket for 17 league games, 1 USOC game, and 2 friendlies (plus 2 free USOC games due to advancement)
    3) $260/20 = $13.00 a ticket for 17 league games, and 3 USOC games (plus 2 free friendlies)
    4) $260/18 = $14.44 a ticket for 17 league games, and 1 USOC game (plus 2 free USOC games due to advancement and 2 free friendlies)
    5) $260/17 = $15.29 a ticket for 17 league games (plus 3 free USOC games, and 2 free friendlies)
    6) $260/$20 a ticket = 13 league games at full price (plus 4 free league games, 3 free USOC games, and 2 free friendlies)

You are still saving about 27-35% of full price by purchasing season tickets - even if you hate friendlies, never go to a single one, and count them as a financial "loss".

Not disputing your math, but "2" is the only correct interpretation. You can talk yourself into the rest of them, but the facts of the matter are that you pay for 20 games at a nice price, and they threw in the extra USOC. I paid for the friendlies, don't care for them, won't go to them, and would prefer not to pay for them. But not bothered about it enough to even notice it except on silly internet forums.

    +1
Now if they bring some of the other bigger name EPL clubs, like Liverpool or Tottenham, then I would be more likely to go, but we shouldn't be forced to pay for these friendlies. I would rather save the extra tickets for games that mean something, like the playoffs or USOC, and get a credit towards next season if we don't use them.

Um, I really enjoy games like these - because I love to see the players who we don't get to see on game-to-game basis. That's why I love reserve league matches too and would go to those as much as possible if they were all at night under the lights at Swope.

Ellis, Dom, Saad, Warzycha, the new CBs, Kronberg... it's an opportunity to get excited about our next-wave of players... and a chance for them to feel what it's like to be out there at LSP and ultimately what they're working towards.

I'm just sad that we have a number of injuries in our reserves - Little-K, Cypian Hedrick... would love to see how they are progressing too.

Only thing I dislike about them is that they are always when it's so hot... which generally makes the game less interesting and makes it less comfortable to go to. But that's when they're going to happen so I'm not going to complain about that.

IF we qualify for CCL, I wonder if we will see the euro friendly on the 2013 calendar?

Honestly, it seems like it almost takes the place of a practice more than anything else. At least it seemed like PV was treating it as such in his comments, and it makes sense to me that it wouldn't be that much different when you consider how much time each player will likely get.

Well the team usually scrimmages each other about once a week when they ding have a midweek game. That's basically what the friendlies are.

again, they weren't free. you either paid for one and got the next two free, or you paid less for each the further we advanced. my post, however, was only about the friendlies, not the one reserved for the open cup. i said earlier that i liked the way the club dealt with the open cup matches for sth's. if we were paying regular season price for only one open cup game, that wouldn't have been as acceptable, but you can't argue with getting 3 games (albeit against lower competition sometimes) for the price of one regular season game.

sigh. bigsoccer at its finest. guys, i'm not railing against season tickets and the advantages of them. just because my post is directed at A PART of season tickets, does not mean those specific emotions are synonymous with EVERYTHING about season tickets. it's a classic bigsoccer mistake, commenting on what's not written in a post instead of only what is.

also, you should probably have the price at $300 instead of $260. $40 in "taxes" is no laughing matter. just because it's a fee tacked on later doesn't mean it shouldn't be figured into the actual ticket price.

bingo. you all can look at how the pricing breaks down for yourself however you want, but this is the reality. any other way is just putting spin on it... and the club thanks you for that, because it saves them from having to do it (e.g. calling the special game tickets "bonus" makes them sound like free additions).

clearly there's people on both sides of the issue. there are people that have no problem with having the friendlies as mandatory purchases with your sth package. the more the better, in their book. that's perfectly fine. then there's people who think we shouldn't have to commit upfront to "irregular" matches.

the clear solution to please everyone is to make it an "opt in" type of deal. it can be done the same way they did it for the open cup final. your ticket was there reserved for you as a member and you had a certain amount of time to claim it before it went on general sale. if you don't want the ticket for the match for whatever reason, you don't have to opt in and "claim" your ticket.
