Wherever Maurice Edu lands, somebody will say that that team is better than Roma. Mark it down, it's a lock.
They need some SPEED on that team than! They should go sign Timothy Chandler, Joe Gyau and Josh Gatt.
We have a hard working group. I think Lamela posted a genuine world class time in the 1000 meters the other day. Most of our players work very hard in training, in particular ones like Taddei who are declining in ability but is well known for busting his ass every training session. I'm too bothered by how quick he is at the moment. It's just one match but yesterday he wasn't sharp at all, he needs to get the technical aspect of his game up to standard more then his athleticism. Everyone looked like they had heavy legs yesterday because it's been a rather grueling training camp. Besides Jose Angel who doesn't seem to give a damn everyone seems to be giving maximum effort. Hopefully Zeman gives them some down time between now and the trip to America.
Well Bradley has always looked like a "strider" to me so it's not crazy. He's a fairly tall guy, which usually means the longer distance is better. Look at the heights of the best 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m runners, taking out the one freak exception (Usain Bolt who's 6'5") there's usually a pretty good correlation between height and time. I bet there are a lot of Roma players who can smoke bradley in a 40 but he catches them over the distance.
I thought this was wrong when you posted it, but if Edu ends up at Valencia, then you're certainly right.
Oh, I know all about that. I was that type of runner myself. I just never really thought of Bradley as a fast player. I could see someone like Edu or Lichaj running a good 100m time, but Bradley has always seemed like an average athlete who makes up for it with tenacity, skill, intelligence, and work ethic.
You're not going to be a professional soccer player who's developed in the United States without at least being an exceptional athlete.
Sorry I'm just not buying the Michael Bradley speed demon label. There's no way he's faster then Florenzi, Bojan, Lopez, etc.
Any Roma insiders?fans, what are fans saying about the 45 minutes that they saw of him against Rapid? I didn't think it was his best game, but i thought he looked comfortable near the end of the half and only made a few mistakes, he just played safer than usual.
There's been some criticism but pretty balanced, considering how we tend to go overboard I think it's been rather mild. Okaka is getting far more stick but there's nothing new there.
huh? MLS' stereotypical criticism is that it's made up of a bunch athletes without any skill. I'm done digressing.
Why? Players never run 100m in a straight line in a game so I don't see how fast anyone is for short bursts in a game is relevant to how they run on a track. I doubt someone would just make that up, what would be the point of it...
It has those players, but it also has guys like Conor Casey and Dax McCarty who look like they were pulled off a high school basketball team. "Exceptional athlete" is a relative term. Of course Michael Bradley is a an exceptional athlete compared to the average human, but in terms of raw speed and quickness nobody will ever confuse him for an NFL running back or NBA point guard. That was my point. He doesn't strike me as fast relative to the overall pool of professional soccer players in top 4 European leagues. I'd be surprised if he could run below 11 seconds in the 100m, which is a rough benchmark for what I would consider a "fast" athlete. But you're right, this is a pretty pointless digression.
I don't know but I've seen Bradley play for years and I've seen some of our players like Florenzi play for years in the Primavera. Bradley is an average athlete, I just don't think he's quicker then other quick players on our roster. To be honest he looked off the pace yesterday in the friendly, Marquinho looked much quicker.
Quickness and 100m track speed are two totally different animals. As is running on a track and running in a game. I think you're just underestimating Bradley's athletic ability. Again, there's little reason for someone to just make that up either.
On top of that all that, Bradley strikes me as being ultra-competitive and probably wanted to have the fastest time, maybe other players just didn't care as much....
