To your edit El Jefe: even as an Alabama fan, I did not like the way ESPN handled (handles) itself in respect to th BCSNG and BCS rankings week-in and week-out.
Let's make it clear, I didn't say that ESPN was the sole cause of the SEC's juggernaut status. Just that its uber-hyping of the SEC sure did help things along. And as for why other conferences (for example, the Pac-10) didn't get the same treatment, it has a lot to do with the fact that the SEC's contract put the SEC, almost always, in prime time. That was true well before the 2008 contract.
Ladies and Gentlemen.... We have created a new high for NBCSPN....Well above my expectations. Although, I had predicted higher ratings for this game, and with a possibility of being the highest rated game to date... LA-Portland @MLS match on Sat. night was most-watched MLSonNBC game to date (256k viewers)...more than triple the FSC 2011 season avg of 68k.... This is a landmark number for this entity...It shows that MLS is finally getting the traction on NBCSPN after few weeks. There is 5 games scheduled during the Olympics time-frame....
Keep in mind that this was not good timing for the East coast. Give this game a 10 PM start and you might have had an even better number. I would have watched. Instead I had to watch then next morning on DVR. 11 PM on Wednesday night with a couple teams that probably won't get a lot of viewers might bring us back to earth. If THAT game can get good #s then we'll really know we are doing well.
Amazing! this will bump the 100k big time! nice job NBC! wish you guys had the world cup in 2018 and 2022 instead of fox.
My wildest, unspoken fantasies were that this game would get between 180-210K. 256,000? out of this world! Edit: That would put the NBCSN average to ~110k.
That is a breath taking number compared to our previous high of 151k! I just wanted to see NBCSN move in the correct direction. I will hold back updating the numbers until we hear about ESPN. The trend continues to be good. 4 highest rated games on NBCSN are the last 4 games played.
It starting to look like it is more important to align the games with a West coast audiance than an East coast one. This is likely due to MLS having so little traction in either Boston or NY for viewers.
The slightly obscured benefit of the great number was that they saw a cracker of a game between LA and Portland. If there were any new viewers, that may entice them to watch again in the future.
I would expect it to go back down to about 120k or so with San Jose-Dallas tomorrow. But, at least we know that a 250k is possible. I do think it's a matter of time before all games will be above 200k. BTW, this represents a 69.54% increase over the previous high.
It might even be lower than 120k. The Chelsea Seattle ESPN game overlaps the SJ-Dallas game by a bit and that may take away some viewers. Also the LA game starting at 10:00 is obviously going to take away the LA crowd. Under 100k would not shock me given the circumstances. All games being over 200k would shock me(which means the average is likely well over 200k). I am not even expecting that in year 3 of the deal. Even ESPN2 did not get all games over 200k last year. I am not even sure a 200k average is achievable by year three. Next year's goal should be around 150k, assuming we end this year between 110-130k this season.
We are going to see another anomaly for NBCSPN MLS ratings this Wednesday... However, I would be interested in the cumulative audience for ESPN2 and NBCSPN. The LA vs. Van will pull some viewers away... I agree with you MLSFan....We will see ratings around 80K-100k for NBCSPN.
Alison Brie? I don't see it. //Just Kidding. I would sell my left right nut for a night with her. Many of the other animated gifs widely available are even better. Her and Sofia Vergara have definitely led the way the past couple years.
How sad is it that adding this number to my weekly graphs is the most exciting thing to happen to me all week. Way to be, NBCS! Such an awesome number.
Don't be surprised for us to break the 300K mark during the Olympics on NBCSPN...I don't think this new high is going to last...We have 5 games scheduled around the Olympics on NBCSPN...One of them should at least break the 300K mark, but most should average around 200K or so... Some of us (including myself) stated this a few months ago that NBCSPN ratings will rise during the summertime and especially around the Olympics time.
A nice little climb started to occur. Hopefully the downfall isn't TOO bad for tomorrow's game. It'd be pretty neat to not drop below 120k for the remainder of the year.
I think I should point out that the CLB moniker is generally used for Columbus to differentiate us from Colorado. The April 14th game on NBCSN between the Crew and Union has been using COL instead of CLB. Can't give too much credit to Colorado fans for having high viewership numbers
