The one positive I can take away from last night is that I absolutely love Crew Stadium. Our team is quite bad at the moment but man do I love our stadium. Honestly, the field is incredible. There was such a nice summer breeze last night, stadium seemed to be pretty full. It was perfect. Well, except for, you know...
I have to second this. The SKC match will be my only home match experience of this campaign and the stadium was downright electric. The Nordecke sounded great and the night was awesome. Despite the fact that the product on the pitch was woeful, I was still totally reminded of what I'm missing not making it to Crew Stadium week in and week out. Nice work fans. It seemed like the guys' spirits were really low last night. Hammer didn't show as much energy after the early goal. Meram seemed deflated after missing the header. I was upset by his 60 seconds of standing around looking stunned after play resumed so I'm sure Warzycha will lay into him for not getting back in the game. Duka brought in a burst of energy but it seemed to have faded before the final whistle. I know there have been several guys on the team who have talked about how optimistic this locker room is, but I wonder if this string of results, Warzycha's rotating lineup/mistrust in players and the summer grind is bringing the guys down mentally. I worry because the busiest time is still ahead: between Aug. 11 and Sep. 5 the Crew play 7 matches in 3.5 weeks.
- Renteria's play and how he conducts himself is getting old - We're not very talented - RW is clueless. the sky is blue etc - Don't count on playoffs this year
He did the same thing with GBS a few years back and with Robbie at the beginning of last year. Its great for team bonding.
I believe we got rid of our only natural left back a few weeks ago. And that was after this past off season when we decided to protect that same left back and letting another one go in expansion. If you want competition at a position, then don't get rid of people who are natural in that position.
Fair point. And I agree, I miss Gardner and said right before the draft I knew we would lose him. But Francis was only protected and Gardner wasn't due to the flimsy arcane rules regarding foreigners with the expansion draft process. I'm sure that if we could've exposed Francis and protected Josh, we would've done. Having said that, I notice Gardner can't get into the team and the talentless hack Brovsky is keeping him out. So screw Marsch. As for Francis, I was kind of surprised on the MLS N&A board and even on here when people were saying they thought he would be snapped up pretty quickly. Even though he's a bit too old to be a player that needs "seasoning", I think that he does, and I think if he just spent a year down in USL he would be an automatic All-Star and would be ready to bounce back into MLS. Or he could just be another Barklage. Who knows.
I would like to note that this is now the top "latest image" associated with Columbus Crew when you search Yahoo images for Columbus Crew.
Not a great game, for sure. Some credit definitely has to go to Gaven though. He sent in a number of superb crosses. And of course Duka was incredible the second he stepped on the field. Bad result, but there's clearly some hope there that we have some of the tools needed to turn it around.
I found out that I really like the Crew Red Lager, and that was cool. If we play the right line up we can hang like nutz with anyone in the MLS.
I think we should play the Red Lager and the Hooligan ale up top. Then we will win every match! The sh*t DC produces ain't got nothing!
