Is that the guy we tried to sign in the offseason who chose to go to South Africa? I can't follow your link which is why I am asking.
R3 million? I didn't know that Colorado spent money? I thought they were like us. According to Google that is $ 362,508.00 a respectable fee.
Lofty goals & big news for DC United. I don't know if saying 'we want to be a global brand' is the way to go right of the bat. If I owned that team I'd say 'I'd like to build a big beautiful highly accessible stadium & command a large amount of DC market share' Asia can wait.
RSL adds a forward from Montreal, for a conditional draft pick. This is why RSL's got the best management out there. A conditional pick (in 2014) for someone that can help for the next year and a half without losing anything in the meantime.
Our next opponent, TFC winning 2-1 right now in Toronto. Mattocks with his fifth of the year for Vancouver (starting to set the pace for ROY), but Frings just gave TFC the lead.
Mattocks added another in the 91st, but TFC scored again ... and they won 3-2. They'll be heading here looking for their first two game winning streak of the season.
Ives reports that the NY Cosmos will join the NASL starting in 2013. That's a definite step in the right direction if they're indeed looking to join MLS. Announcements on stadium location, coaching staff, etc. will all be announced at a later date. Hopefully they'll be playing in NYC (is Randall's Island an option?) and can start developing a fanbase, hopefully drawing the interest of the Borough Boys.
I know a lot of people, Achowat for one, doubt the relevance and strength of this brand, but just do a simple Google news search and see all the newspapers and media outlets who are covering this story. It's crazy how far of a reach this brand has, hopefully MLS can attach it's name to it somehow.
I really don't think it is. I can't imagine any place on the Island that meets D2 standards. It's also put-up or shut-up time for the Borough Boys. Get 20,000 to a NASL game and I'll be impressed. I would be the first to agree that "The Cosmos" brand is a big deal. But, unfortunately, that's all I see it as. A name that someone bought so they could pretend their youth team is more important than it is.
So with SKC in the USOC Finals, I wanted to see what their schedule looks like, since we have two games coming up against them in the next month. Starting back in June, this has been their schedule: 6/16, TFC 2-0 win 6/20 @ Seattle, 1-1 6/23, @ Philly 0-4 6/26, Dayton 3-0 (USOC) 6/29, Chicago 0-1 7/4, @ Montreal 3-1 7/7 Houston, 0-0 7/11, @ Philly 2-0 (USOC) 7/14 @ Crew 7/18 @ Houston 7/21, Revs 7/24, Montpelier (friendly) 7/28, Crew 8/1, Stoke (friendly) 8/4, @ Revs 8/8, Seattle (USOC Final) 8/11, DC In other words, they've played two matches a week for almost two straight months. Holy shit. 17 matches in 8 weeks, before they finally get a week off.
Montreal and Colorado make a trade. Dallas signs their 7th homegrown player. If you're keeping track, that's 6 more than the Revs.
Impressive, until you realize that 6 of the 7 have combined for only 70 minutes of playing time this year, which is less than half of Diego's PT (158 min). Only one, Bryan Leyva, their first signing in 2009, has significant time (421 min).
I wouldn't be surprised if Dominik Machado is signed next offseason either, if he's planning on bypassing college (I have no idea if he's considering it either way.)
