Chang has been there almost a month. I had no idea he made the leap to Liverpool. Quite interesting and what a cool gig even if I hate Liverwurst, I mean Liverpool!

BTW, I always assumed Chang was a Yank. I didn't realized he was raised in England

Roma have confirmed Liverpool are interested in signing striker Fabio Borini, who played under Reds manager Brendan Rodgers at Swansea City. We'll bring you more on this story shortly.

That may change the odds of a CD move.

So, we have absolutely no real info on where he may end up next year. Either he, his posse and his agent and the admin at Fulham are extremely good at hiding transfer info, or there isn't any info. I bet clubs will look to sign him late in the transfer window when other transfers fall through. The age thing I bet.

I agree. If he goes (very debatable at this point) its going to be a late rush job as the window is closing ala Nasri last year.

To me it's simple economics. He's like my old '71 chevy pickup. It's worth a lot more to me than it probably is to a buyer, I know how reliable it is. It starts great, never gives me problems...but it is old and there are more sexy trucks out there. So until someone comes up with the cash it would take to replace it (unlikely), I'm going to hang on to it.

The betting odds are really short on Demspey to Liverpool. So short that it must be common knowledge that he's going to Liverpool, and only an unforeseen hold up will stand in the way.

Are we really making this some sort of criteria of where we want him to go? Can you imagine if people tried to assess what American fans thought of Landon Donovan based on the loudest posters on BigSoccer?

My first choice is for Clint to play in the Champions League starting this season, but I would have no problem if he went to Liverpool and played alongside some very good players and proved a lot of people wrong. Clint wouldn't shy away from the challenge of pushing that team to a Champion's League berth - why should we?

And let's face it, no way are Liverpool fans nearly as nuts as Newcastle fans ;)

It's close, but you may be right . Liverpool fans will warm up to players willing to prove themselves, and in that regard, Clint has no problem.

Please Rogers, clip out some of the nastier comments and tape them to Clints locker. If there is anyone that will take those idiotic comments and make them work for him, it's CD.

Creating a criteria? Absolutely not, I simply stated that liverpool fans in general have seemed to be much more negative about Clint than Arsenal fans. It seems like you and others have misconstrued this as me saying Clint should only go to places where every single fan is already in love with him. Do you really think I'm that naive?

Ultimately, Clint has to do what is best for himself and his family.

It would be nice at this point to be able to sign with a Championship squad.
I am not a big fan of Liverpool and have enjoyed reading the recent posts on this thread.

The money speaks and I am confident he will prove himself, again.

I am excited about a potential move for Clint but I do have this nagging worry. I wonder to what extent Clint's scoring success at Fulham is attributable to the fact that if he didn't take it upon himself to "try shit" there has been almost no one else over the course of his tenure who would do so. [Apologies to Bobby Z and Zoltan Gera]. Liverpool, despite underperforming, has a roster full of players who have produced or are capable of producing at the highest levels. [Suarez, Gerard, Maxi, Bellamy, Joe Cole, Adam]. So I do wonder whether Deuce thrive and produce as much within such an environment where he may not have as much license to "try shit" and may be expected to play a more confined role.

Though I would ultimately be happy with him at Liverpool [or Arsenal or evenTottenham], I think I would much rather him wind up at a Schalke or a Roma or a Newcastle. Obviously, those may not be possibilities at all.

The flipside to that is he'll be with more creative players than he's ever been as well. Suarez, Gerrard, Adam, are all superior playmakers to anyone he's had at Fulham save maybe Murphy at his best. As fun as Downing bashing is as a sport, part of his problem was people not doing anything with his service. He does play a decent ball in.

I'd also prefer him at any of the 3 you mention. I think Roma is a longshot. The ownerships are mingled, and they aren't going to compete against themselves. I'd love him at Newcastle in Ba's spot if he gets dealt.

Actually, Clint has never been shy about shooting and giving a whithering stare to those who might question his decsion. I think he can take care of himself.

Sorry if it came off as a personal attack, was just explaining myself. I would love for Clint to go to either liverpool or arsenal, I think both would go very far in improving his game (but im really pulling for arsenal ;)).

That was precisely my point. Clint at Fulham hasn't really played with anyone as iconic as Gerrard, as talented as Suarez or as insane as Bellamy. Aside from Murphy, who by all accounts seems to be the consumate team guy, and Damien Duff, who is far removed from the height of his career, who at Fulham has the stature to challenge him? Factor in that Fulham's fanbase and ownership seem resigned to mid-table ambitions.

See IMHO this is the thinking of most people around the world . There is NOOOOO WAY an American field player can be world class and I call BS and not Big Soccer. First let's take Clint's resume and discount he's was born in Texas and say he was born in Rio the first thing everybody on earth would say is wow that guy is WORLD CLASS and he would be in a team somewhere like Bayern, Milan or Madrid.

Let's look at his football pedigree scored in two straight world cups, bronze ball in fifa sanction tourny. big part of small football nation getting to final of fifa tourny. big part in small club run to finals of uefa club tourny. goal of tourny to get his team there annually double digit goals from midfield. routinelly scores goals against big clubs and countries from midfield. All that's fact!

Now name another player with that type of resume that's not consider WORLD CLASS. now what I find on football boards like these is Americans that watch a league or big team and believe what pundits and idiots think because they have an accent they must know more about the game or because a guys from Europe or S. America or African he's so much better than anyone else. It simply not true and I'm not saying that because I'm an American I see the bias being thrown around to Asian players also. It's a world game and there are some really good players all over this planet.

There must be a huge payraise associated with this; else why would Dempsey even consider this move ? No CL, No London, have to uproot family, no "hero-worship" (if anything, hostility by Liverpool fans).

Okay, a slightly greater possibility of CL play in the next few years then if stay with Fulham.

I do think he will have a better chance of regularly making the starting lineup than if he went to Arsenal.

Censor the use of World Class and I prophesy that there shall then be rumours of things going astray, and there will be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia work base, that has an attachment…at this time, a friend shall lose his friends’s hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before around eight o’clock...

That's where we disagree. It's possible to acknowledge that Clint is a very good player without agreeing that he obviously belongs in a team like Madrid or Bayern.

I think American fans have a bit of a weird inferiority complex paranoia in soccer where they feel like everyone is against them. That's not really the case, IMO. Dempsey is a late bloomer who didn't have a truly incredible season until this past year. Had he been doing this sort of stuff at 24 or 25, I'm sure the big offers would have come in. They still might.

I don't think his track record is quite as strong as you're suggesting. He had a very good year in 2010-2011 followed by an elite season in 2011-2012. That's what has earned him this transfer speculation. But prior to that, he had been a relatively average player. The fact that he played in a couple World Cups isn't hugely meaningful since the USMNT is an easy squad to crack compared to the likes of Brazil, Spain, France, etc. Those nations routinely discard players who would be automatic starters for us.

Regarding this alleged bias against American players, I'd just like to point out that in recent years teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, and Man City have bought players from Costa Rica, Japan, Israel, Belgium, Mexico, Ecuador, South Korea, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Bosnia, and Montenegro. They go wherever the value is. The reason they haven't signed many American players is because there haven't been many who deserved to play at that level. Even with that being the case, we've seen players like Tim Howard, Landon Donovan, and even the kid Ben Lederman get opportunities with massive clubs. The anti-American bias mainly exists in the minds of American fans who overrate their nation's players.
