There was a little stink over it all because Naismith would not let his registration be transferred over to the newco (new rangers) even though they said they will sell him. It wasn't considered a very team friendly thing to do so that way they could gain some transfer fee from the deal and Naismith could still move on. Well to those who (none on these boards) who are upset with him should look at the mirror. Rangers held David Weir out from games at the end of the season so he wouldn't hit X amount of games which required them to pay Everton more as part of his transfer.

And as a side note many of the top players at Rangers took a 75% pay cut and finnished the season

I am not a huge Naismith fan (although I have only seen him a few times) however coming over on a free, which by the way after agent fees and signing fees still run around 3 million, is worth the risk.

Yeah, the team for whatever reasons starts so poorly. I know Moyes has even mixed up the pre-season training to try and correct that. I am hoping for big things this year. IF we hold onto our top players and add 1 or 2 more I think we can have a Newcastle shot at 4th place. We need things to fall our way and stay relatively healthy but the talent is there.

I doubt it - I think Klinsmann will want Edu and Boca to stay in Europe for the benefit of their national team careers.

All you need is a quick look at the Celtic & Rangers forums to see just how poisoned by hate Scotland's Old Firm is, and it ruins the whole Scottish game for me. Man U vs Liverpool seems like a little girls' tea party by comparison.

    source?

Also, that's a steal for Arsenal in my opinion. Villa is 2 years older but has a better strike rate and is healthier than RVP (over the past several seson). Plus Villa will play as a more center striker which will work well with Poldolski and the rest of the Arsenal attackers.

Both are great players. Both have had injury problems, both are physically declining. Hard to say who gets the better deal. It's more of an even swap than anything else, I think it would probably be better for Arsenal because they need an RVP replacement more than Barca needs a David Villa replacement.

This is still pure rumor though. A lot of clubs are going to be in for RVP.

Steal for Arsenal. Villa is a much better player than Van Persie, plus they get money added in!

I think for the size of the country Scotland does well to have two( sorry one now) big clubs ,London alone has almost 8 million people the whole of Scotland is 15 million if anything clubs in Scotland punch above there weight..and lets not forget how Sky tips the scale for English clubs and really for its size how many clubs really have a shot 2-3 at most same for all the major leagues in Europe out with maybe Germany or Holland and France.

As opposed to the evenly balanced leagues in England and Spain?

    yes.

Look at the history. I think since the inception of the scottish league it is something like 83% of the league titles have been won by Rangers or Celtic. That is by far the most unbalanced spread of league titles in europe. It has been 28 years since the last team outside of those two won the title.

I like derbies, but in all of those cases there is large minority of violent drunken lunatics who drag politics, bigotry and ignorance into the frame and spoil the whole thing as far as I'm concerned. When you look at the product on the field and place it into the context of the level of fervor and violence surrounding it, I lose interest. There's just no justifying the lengths that the Old Firm rivalry goes to.

I've read Old Firm forums, I've seen comments on news articles and I've heard the hyperbole from the clubs themselves. It's beyond the pale. I know there are a lot of decent fans of both clubs out there, but the Old Firm have some of the worst hooligans in world football right now, certainly among developed nations, and the bigotry is simply suffocating.

Every time I see Liverpool/Man U fans behaving the same way it disgusts me. It's not just Scotland and the Old Firm. But I think it's partularly bad up there, and it's hurting the sport.

Scottish football is in crisis right now, and the crisis is directly related to the greed of the Old Firm and TV companies and the lack of leadership from the SFA, SFL and SPL suits. Sure, there will always be top teams in any league, but I can't see Man U ever getting away with being liquidated and coming back straight into the Championship. That's fundamentally unfair. Scotland loves its football, has a long tradition in the sport and will continue to have the potential to punch above their weight - but unless changes are made the nation will find itself in freefall. Scottish football is bigger than the Old Firm. Far bigger. They could disappear tomorrow and it would not hurt Scotland's ability to run a robust league and build a competitive national team.

I like Dempsey. I like Liverpool.

I'm not sure that Dempsey would fit the profile of the kind of player Rogers or FSG want at Liverpool - his age being a major factor. I want to see Dempsey have the best possible career, and right now I feel like that may be best accomplished at Fulham, where he'll get lots of playing time and where his playing style will be better accomodated.

I think Dempsey gets in the current Liverpool lineup ahead everyone except Suarez and probably Gerrard. And even Gerrard, the injuries notwithstanding, has has a marginal past 24 months at club level. But that may be right to your point, as he plays a similar position to both of those.

Personally, though, I would be over the moon if they signed him.

This whole Clint Dempsey saga has me feeling more like a parent than a fan. Truly, I want what is best for Clint and I can't decide what is best option is. Would I love it if he played for Spurs? YES! Would it be the best move for him? No. I think he'd be fine to stay at Fulham. He'd be good at Everton, too. And, maybe, even Liverpool. Let him play for a team that is gonna contend for something (CL, the title, the top four, something). Let him be heroic.

Anyone but f---ing Arsenal. Or S*nderland (which won't happen of course; just saying).

I'd actually be fine with him going to Liverpool; I don't like them, but I respect their history.
