Wish list: Hugo Lloris Ally Cissokho Thiago Silva Mats Hummels Darjio Srna Yann M'Villa Toni Kroos Neymar Lucas Moura Mario Gotze Edinson Cavani ....who else is rated at least 3.5 stars in Football Manager...
In the previous thread -- all 1000 posts of it, did we sign anybody? Thought not .... nothing to see here, moving on.
I feel the same way every close season, and yet still find myself checking the transfer thread multiple times every day just on the off chance. Perhaps I should have learned my lesson when I saw that we'd signed Robbie Keane from Spurs a couple of years ago and I instantly shouted, "We're gonna win the league!" Oh well...
Well, we ALMOST did! This quote from Brandon is not going to do much for our patience and anxiety here: It could be a few more weeks of twiddling our thumbs.
i had been a football fan for quite a while when i read FP. i think anyone who's been a "fan" can immediately connect with Hornby's love affair with Gunners. i read the book in the early 90s, and i wasn't the Liverpool fan i am today. i didn't become a Gunners fan then, but on my second trip to London in 1995, i took the tube up to Highbury and walked around the area, trying to get a sense of the neighborhood and all that. it wasn't until 1998, IIRC, that i was seduced by Liverpool.
Well I have read Fever Pitch and I never thought of Highbury as a place to visit. But the description of male football fanaticism in it is perfect. I suspect that we won't have new buys until the end of the month. I remember saying in the new manager debate that firing Dalglish meant we would not buy until later and I am convinced it will largely be from the remainders bin. So the wish lists are probably wrong
Strong suspicion that we aren't going to sign anyone, or the 1 or 2 signees are going to be very underwhelming.
was that a disappointment! i detest the NY Yankees, but the Bosox aren't far behind in my fan hate...
i have no idea what the area was like in the days of The Treble, but it was a very "eclectic" -- if that's the proper term -- neighborhood in 1995. lots of "ethnic" goings on, but i think the residents are mostly "white". i didn't expect to see Championship Vinyl around there, but it should have been.
The transfer thread is at the very least the go-to place on this forum for witty banter during slow summer work days. It's convenient that most conversation is condensed into one thread for a few months. I wound't mind if all personnel resources were focused on getting the current players to mold into this system this summer. Like LB hinted at, hopefully BR and his staff are having a good look at everyone currently on our payroll and figuring out who will fit in.
If we can keep our CB's, get Lucas healthy, keep Suarez and Reina...get quality minutes from Cole, Shelvy, Henderson and have SG stay healthy - that may be the best summer we can ask for.
Didn't we say the same thing about a healthy Gerrard last year? We need to buy something from somewhere.
I had to chuckle when a previous article said that Brendan Rodgers had contacted Joe Cole. All I could think was: "what for?".
