    Loewen News...
    • Halfar Back: Danny is back from his injury and will likely see some play in the next test match.
    • According to Kiraly, the new BL Adidas "Torfabrik" ball is really hard to judge. I have seen these balls and it is true you can put some wicked bend on these balls. I have not seen something this different since the Tango Espana in 1982. Gabor also in a 60 second interview.
    • Maurer sends Tomasov on a short break. The new player seems frustrated at his own lack of progress and Maurer sent the guy home for a long weekend break to take some of the pressure off. Maurer thinks he is being too hard on himself (Tomasov) and trying too hard. Maurer is looking to ease him into things and not burn him out. Smart move. The press was beginning to work him up as s saviour and the kid was feeling the pressure.
    • The new trikot will be announced on 7/9 but leaks are starting to come out. Also a possibility is this kit.

I am hoping but you know me, I am not going to get my hopes up until I see us in action. Maurer seems to have the support he needs and the signings coming in are promising. We need heatlhy players and consistency. I also suspect we might hit a few hiccups on the first 7 games given we have a new line-up. Things look good right now. Certainly more promising than they have in a long, long time.

Test Spiel: We played today with a cobbled line up that saw Halfar make his comeback. Ticker of the game here. Most of the first choice players either were not there or played little.

I like both frankly. I think the one above is more a fan-created kit, but they are usually pretty close to what will come out.

The one posted on blaue24 is more than likely the kit that will be out.

Today, it is Schorsch's first day in team training(he had a few days off after EURO 2012). Blaue 24 is quoting Hinterberger we might get to see the next transfer even this week. The DM?

I do worry a bit about the impact "of putting the team together so late" on the team's performance in the first quarter of the season.

Im not so happy about the supposed shirts. But okay..... they are always more or less a matter of taste. Anyway, I hope they stay with Aston Martin.

    Isn't that Wojtkowiak?

Rumors are that we will pick up a Senegalese player. I think we have the DMs Maurer wants, no?

Me too, but I think other teams are in the same situation. My bigger worry is that we will repeat 2009 or 2010 when we had so many new players and expectations were SO high. I think we need to remember 2014 is the goal and that this team is the (hopefully) the foundation to get us there.

Agree on matter of taste. They are not bad. Nothing "classic" but definately classy. :D Unlike some of these other kits.

    Lowen News 7-3-12:
    • Here are all the new players and rumors to date. Several of these are already decided, many are just rumors, a few are still likely. Morgaro Gomis is one player still heavily rumored to still be in play, as is Guirane N'Daw. Now, how likely they are to come is a totally different story. I think Makos and Kringe are not likely or they would have happened already. Frankly, I don't think that anyone beyond #5 is even still in play.
    • Lauth on the need for a strike partner. Clearly Jais, Ziereis and Vollman are seen as sub options and not like a Volland replacement.
    • Former 1860 bench warmer, Eke Uzoma (aka, Huggy Bear...google it). His test by Aahlen did not pan out but Regensburg is looking for 4-5 more players so he is currently testing there.

I'm sure a lot of the new player rumors are bogus, but just the quality of player we are legitimately trying to sign is such a step up over the past couple seasons that you have to feel good. Very excited for new season. Only 1 month away. :)

Might try to catch the Duisburg home match over Labor Day weekend. Any ideas when the exact date 1860 will play that weekend could get released? I was thinking it would be announced late July?

Yup. Btw it was interesting to hear Rukavina has been our "Topverdiener" over the years - 600.000 per year. even more than Lauth earned. It is said that now all contracts have a max. of a 300.000 regular wage and additional performance clauses. We have to consider that if we compare Woitkowiak performances to Rukavina's.

Exactly. Remember McLovin? I dont like the pre-credit all the new players get in various forums. In my view we have done decent transfers, right, but it is as you say: the process of building up a team needs time. The loss of our top scorers struck us hard and -apart from Volzy - the new ones still need to prove they can perform on 2nd Buli level.

Normally, the dates are fixed some weeks(3 or 4) before and then often 4-6 match-days in a whole. So I would assume it will be announced mid-July. The reason for that is there are teams having international duty such as Gladbach and the schedule has to deal with that. Btw 2nd Buli starts 3 weeks before Buli.

Anyway, at the begin of September we still have summer holidays in Bayern and we hardly will manage to win the first three games(including two tough away games) so you will get tickets any time. I also would not expect this to be a Monday evening game.

After the recent discussion over here about the NT and if they had lost to Italy just cause they didnt sing passionately enough the German anthem ... somehow I stumbled over this the other day:

Is the reason for not getting promoted we did not put the team together sing a song ? Perhaps it would help us. :whistling:

Exactly. Everyone....including Halfar and Lauth...need to prove themselves. It will be hard the first few games learning to play together. I will be patient again to,see how this works. Replacing a team is tough and I hope the fans will be patient.

If you look at the Transferböse on Kicker does not look like many teams are making as many changes as we are....except for the newly promoted teams. :)

    Loewen News 7-5-12:

Not much in the news today. There is an article in AZ that compares the new players to their possible competition for starting spots. While I think many of the new transfers will be starting right away (otherwise, why get them at all given they are in positions where we lost starters and the back-ups, well, suck), it *is* possible any of these guys could find the bench if they "impress" the way Lovin or Benjamin did when they arrived. Very quickly translated...
    • Volz: LB but is up against Feick and Steinhart. Unless Steinhart REALLY sucks I cannot fathom for the life of me Feick seeing more time than him. Volz is a sure starter unless he makes Feick look like Pele...which is unlikely.
    • Wojtkowiak: RB and really has no one except maybe Buelow or, again Steinhart. I highly doubt he will see the bench unless he really, really sucks (remember Kusuckovic?).
    • Stoppelkamp: He is listed as a striker but is being slotted in at RM along with Nicu. Frankly, I think we would be better off with Nicu and using Stoppelkamp as a AM replacement behind Halfar in the 4-2-3-1, but it appears Maurer is going to stick with the double-6 again. Cannot help but think this would be the perfect year to change that system.
    • Tomasov: By all accounts he will play on the left, though behind Halfar (assuming he stays healthy). Am wondering how good this guy is. Folks are already speculating that he may be the first "bust", but that could have no basis at all.
I am curious to see how this team will perform. Test match today against Grasshopper and another Saturday though I forget against who...I think Young Boys.

What seems to be obvious is that Maurer sticks to his 4-4-2 with two defensive DMs. Following Italy playing EM with two strikers up-front made slowly coming to the conclusion what's that all about. Stoppelkamp, who probably will play the Volland part for a start, has the job of a mixture of Özil and Italys Cassano: staying in between the room of the defensive four and the opponents midfielders - and in addition pulling out one of their center-backs.

Maurer wants the see the game built up down our flanks. That's why he transfered two nominal wingers in Stoppelkamp and Tomasov. We now have 4 top-class wingers with them two and Halfar and Nicu. Maurer is quoted they`ll only transfer starting-spot options from now on. That's why we need to wait for the DM and ST. Lets hope so. I beg to god he gets off the "Bierofka is a decent playmaker" myth.
