Always thought EJ was over rated (vastly so)... now we know he's a tool as well.

Not entirely excused, no... but EJ was looking for a fight and Zayner obliges. Zayner is an idiot if he does push EJ first (not saying he did or that he didn't), but EJ was the instigator, picked the fight (or was at least asking for one) and therefore he is the one responsible.

Oh my God, he wrapped him up!
JR: BAH GAWD, KING, HE'S BEATING HIM LIKE A GOVERNMENT MULE!!!
This was obvious foreshadowing no doubt, right? Maybe he was trying to bearhug him hard enough to snap a few bones? Or maybe...just maybe...he was half-assing his defensive responsibilities and Salinas suffered an injury as a result? Nah, it couldn't be something so simple as that. SJ and their fans just love to present themselves as victims, don't they?

Looknobrains, in any thing I posted did I make any claim of Marquez's intent? Your attempt to discount what I have said by bringing up what some other SJ fans posted a couple of months ago is pretty weak sauce.

What? If you're not postulating that Marquez was acting with any sort of intent, why bring up his wrapping up from previously in the game? All it does is prove that Rafa can be a really, really **itty defender...but to act as though the injury should have any relevance on his suspension is misguided and, combined with the reactions to the EJ incident, portray SJ fans as suffering from delusions of victimization.

    Sticks and stones ....

... so EJ acted like a 5th grader. Big deal. Guess what, if someone walks 3 feet in front of you and verbally abuses your mom by calling her every name under the sun, and you clock them .... nobody but you is responsible for your actions.

EJ went by the bench goading because he knew there was little punk over there. He was right. Immature ? Sure, absolutely. Responsible for Zayner being a dumbass ? No.

Making 7 for the season. Tool he may be, but he's delivering on the field for Seattle. As anyone watching the Euros today is aware, being a great footballer and being an asshole are not mutually exclusive. (Not saying Eddie is a great player btw, but he's having a good year so far).

Not sure how you can call EJ vastly overrated over the past several years. During that time the general rating of him that I've observed amongst US fans has been is that he's complete crap and doesn't belong in MLS or in any country's top division. If even that is over rating him, how has he managed 7 goals thus far?

I wonder if there are still any idiot Seattle fans out there who would still prefer Lamar Neagle

The only thing EJ is struggling with-- scoring more goals than our backline can concede.

    It's quite a task.

he has been a bit lucky and will probably cool off (he has 7 goals in 9 shots on goal total, which is a ridiculously high conversion rate....those tend to settle in the 30-50% range)....but that move looks better and better.

Neagle and Fucito have combined for 1 goal in 800 minutes with MTL + Portland. They are nice bench players that got a bit overrated for being fan favorites (Fucito in particular) in Seattle. Neither is as young as people act (nor is Eddie as old).

Yeah, I guess we should never react when a player gets punched in the eye. The only people that are delusional are the ones that are trying to deny the incident, or make excuses for it.

Go ahead and react. Just don't blow it out of proportion like the Rafa situation. A player from your team got punched after charging at another player...big deal. Unless EJ was coming over to the SJ bench with the intention of punching everyone, this whole thing could have been avoided had Zayner not ran at him. Suspend EJ, suspend Zayner (for next year's round) and move on.

I sure hope you don't have kids if this is the type of responsibility that you are teaching them.

Sure, from a legalistic perspective, EJ has every right to run around and do whatever he wants to here (as long as it doesn't become 'intimidation', etc.). I'm not talking about the legality of the issue though, I'm talking about responsibility - about who is responsible for the incident.

It blows my mind that you are so eager to defend EJ in this situation. This is the type of sportsmanship you'd like to see in the sport? It's ok to taunt the opposition so long as you don't actually physically assault them? If someone pushes you then you somehow get the right to give them a black eye?

LOL, the interwebz is serrre-us bidness.

I got in a wreck because some jackass two cars ahead of me decided half way through a merge lane that he'd go ahead and pay attention to the yield sign he already didn't pay attention too. However, I hit the car directly in front of me. That guy ? He drove off and probably had no clue he caused a wreck.

The wreck is my fault. I'm responsible for it.

Who is responsible for Zaynor's black eye ? Zaynor. He initiated the physicality. Just because someone is an idiot doesn't mean that you follow suit. When Zaynor put his hands on EJ, EJ had every right to react.

... or, are you just going to take it if I push you ?

It blows my mind that you're going this far and literal with it. You could insert any other names in this exact same situation and my responses would have only changed in the matter of what names were in the context.

Taunting/shit talking/etc are part of the game.

As for your questions up there ... seriously ? That's just you drawing shit out of thin air and trying to put statements on me that I didn't make.

Glad that we can have a mature discussion about this...

I can't really decide if you're just trolling or really believe what you're saying, but it really doesn't matter either way. Assuming you're not trolling, you and I obviously have different opinions about what is appropriate and responsible behavior of players.

Wikipedia has him at 8 goals in 16 games... but he tacked on a 9th in the USOC game.

He was injured to start the season.

Edit: You should note that Rosales was also injured a good chunk of the season and yet has 4 assists on EJ's goals. It's almost like a carnival game for those two.
