Doesn't this just show that the election process is flawed?

The process needs to reward positive behaviours.

If it rewards negative behaviours - then it can only lead to bad outcomes

Bloomberg News dug a bit deeper than usual On Wednesday night into how much friction this has caused, reporting that the Romney campaign has asked Florida Gov. Rick Scott to tone "down his statements heralding improvements in the state’s economy because they clash with the presumptive Republican nominee’s message."
The story is well reported, going so far as to quote a Republican operative as saying that the ads being run by the Florida GOP seemed like they were crafted at President Barack Obama's re-election campaign headquarters.

The classic media political ambush, the entire George Bush amazement over supermarket scanners was bullshit too, but the dupes bought it so now it is political folklore. The problem with this tactic is there is now an Internet media source so these shenanigans get called out and backfire.

How is that an ambush? It looks like Romney said that ridiculous stuff without being prompted.

I gotta go with Fish here. The whole gotcha game played on Presidents (or candidates) being out of touch is monumentally stupid. However Romney reacts at a WaWa tells me nothing about him that is useful, nothing at all. Then again John Kerry windsurfing is meaningless too -- and the problem with all this stuff of course is that 99% of the people who say that Romney was ambushed here are happy to brandish pictures of Kerry on his board and claim that to be meaningful.

Something about pro-life PRO CHOICE low taxes pragmatic government spending NO SPENDING tax cuts INVADE IRAN immigration bad, I mean GOOD hispanic families love America hate RUSSIA.

I'd be OK with Champagne Units for Truth digging up why such a flag waver as Mitt was able to avoid Vietnam so easily. We know why, of course. It would be fun to watch this stiff robot squirm some more though.

Check out the A-listers in Dubya's old unit of the TX Air National Guard:

    147th Fighter Group

One well known champagne unit was the Texas Air National Guard 147th Fighter Interceptor Group, at Ellington Field in Houston. During the Vietnam War many well-connected sons landed in this posting, sometimes with the help of politicians such as Ben Barnes.

    What is RMoney's message?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/27/mitt-romney-vision_n_1632021.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

This is the core of Romney's strategy: avoid the spotlight and keep it on Obama. The calculation is that the stagnant economy and fears of further trouble will drive voters away from the president and to Romney's side. Even the Romney campaign's response to HuffPost on the question of Romney's candidacy followed a simple formula: step one, talk about the economy, and step two, wallop Obama.
Step one: "The focus of this campaign is getting the economy back on track and we’ve released a 160-page guide for how Gov. Romney would do just that," Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in an email.
Step two: "We are still waiting for a single plan or new idea from President Obama that would help the economy," she wrote.

"Romney made his business career the centerpiece of his campaign. We’re just making sure people know the truth about it," said the group's founder, Bill Burton.
And while the Obama campaign has only spent $100,000 on anti-Bain ads (much of it to test voter reaction), recent polling news along with new reports that Romney invested in companies that were heavily involved in outsourcing seems poised to catalyze much more.
"This isn’t an idle point about his past," said one top Obama campaign aide. "This is the tenure he is basing his candidacy on, and the lessons and values he learned from that experience led him to present a tax policy during this campaign that provides additional incentives for American companies to outsource jobs."

Just heard an old song which explains the Romney campaign.

    Mister Class and Quality
    -Gentle Giant

Look around my rooms and see the prizes I have showing
Working hard to build my life and plan the way I'm going
House and car and pretty wife - they've all been won by knowing
    All been won by knowing
    All been won by knowing.

Paperwork, white collared shirts - where would we be without them
Man of class and quality - I never shout about them
Choose my friends for my own ends. You can't succeed without them
    Can't succeed without them
    Can't succeed without them.

Middleman sees straight ahead and never crosses borders
Never understood the artist or the lazy workers
The world needs steady men like me to give and take the orders
    Give and take the orders
    Give and take the orders.

The problem with RMoney's campaign is that they can't do one thing without stumbling on their own foot....

    http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2012/05/republican_national_committee_21.html

Republican National Committee used Philippines firm to set up call blasting Obama on unemployment. UPDATES

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-brief...-short-press-call-after-immigration-questions

After reporters did not oblige, the Romney campaign cut off the call.

"We don’t have any more questions on today’s topic," a Romney aide said.

The call underscored Romney's struggles with immigration, which have intensified after Obama's decision last week to halt deportations of some immigrants who came to the United States as children. With Hispanics a fast-growing voter bloc, Romney is looking to walk a tightrope between his conservative base and an important constituency in November.

    http://miamiherald.typepad.com/nake...-but-david-riveras-a-no-show-on-the-call.html

Here's what the Democratic National Committee had to say on that: "The fact that the RNC found David Rivera to be a credible source on anything is laughable considering his status as an embattled member of congress, under investigation by Florida officials for living off his campaign contributions for nearly a decade. No wonder he 'couldn't make it' on the conference call."

So only Diaz-Balart spoke, beginning the press call by saying he was expressing "deep outrage" with the decision. He called the visits "pro-regime, public relations tours."

I feel that this is a little hotter than Rev. Jeremiah Wright...

    http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/08/investigating-mitt-romney-offshore-accounts

One cannot properly understand Wall Street’s size and power without appreciating the central role of offshore tax havens. There is absolutely no evidence that Bain has done anything illegal, but private equity is one channel for this secrecy-shrouded foreign money to enter the United States, and a filing for Mitt Romney’s first $37 million Bain Capital Fund, of 1984, provides a rare window into this. One foreign investor, of $2 million, was the newspaper tycoon, tax evader, and fraudster Robert Maxwell, who fell from his yacht, and drowned, off of the Canary Islands in 1991 in strange circumstances, after looting his company’s pension fund. The Bain filing also names Eduardo Poma, a member of one of the “14 families” oligarchy that has controlled most of El Salvador’s wealth for decades; oddly, Poma is listed as sharing a Miami address with two anonymous companies that invested $1.5 million between them. The filings also show a Geneva-based trustee overseeing a trust that invested $2.5 million, a Bahamas corporation that put in $3 million, and three corporations in the tax haven of Panama, historically a favored destination for Latin-American dirty money—“one of the filthiest money-laundering sinks in the world,” as a U.S. Customs official once put it.

    The new RMoney campaign motto:

Elect me!!! I not only offshore US Jobs, I clean money for third world dictators and crooks!!!!

And here's why I love the interwebs. The folks at Upworthy.com put together a few Venn diagrams to show the Romney campaign how it's really done.

That won't hurt him that much. Most Americans, even those who call themselves Christian, really do their serious worshipping at the altar of Mammon (Mammon is not a jealous god, so he doesn't mind). This is just Romney making money. To criticize him for this is sacril... I mean UnAmerican. Never mind the effect it has on Americans. It's the principle of the thing.

Perhaps not to you or to federal law, but if a substantial reason that Bain was a successful enterprise and Romney was a successful businessman was that he took dirty money and invested in complex schemes that led to the outsourcing of American jobs while making druglords and fraudsters a fortune in "clean" money, I think the electorate may disagree.

"Doing something that's legal" and "Behavior we look for in a President" don't overlap 100%...
