Hoping they did well, as it was arguably the best televised MLS match that I've seen this year and had a great atmosphere. Was it really that loud, or does NBCS simply know where to put their microphones?
I would also note the press release stated that Italy/England was the highest rated Euro match ever in Canada. Being summertime does help as general tv viewership declines but this match was also the top rated tv program in Canada for the week ending June 24. Yes, soccer was no #1 in Canada.
That was part of it. It was also really damn loud. The fan-made noise comes through much, much louder on this broadcast than it does for New York's home game against New England.
Here is a question I am uncertain of. We get overnight ratings early in the week and final ratings come later in the week. On mos Tuesdays, we get viewership info. Does anyone know if the viewership numbers are overnights or finals?
I was at the game and the place was pretty loud , the stadium holds the noise in and it ripples through like a thunder. I have the game on DVR and I am planing to look at it later on and compare it.
I am sure it was very loud. It sounded great. But if you look at the NBC thread, you will see people have been commenting since the very first NBC game how much louder every crowd sounds on NBCSN.
Meant to add this is the biggest number of the year on NBCSN. I will update all numbers when the ESPN number comes in.
We are not in disagreement. I noted the loud NBCS crowds earlier in the thread as well. Just adding that if it wasn't an awesome atmosphere, that would have come through clear on the broadcast regardless of how many mics are set up, proven by NY-NE.
Here is the latest compiled data. As always, if anyone has access to the Galavision numbers, please share. All times listed below are eastern. I think we can all say this might have been one of the most important/successful/awesome weeks in the history of the league.
Any Kudos for Me? Not to brag about this, but a few days ago I indicated that we might see the highest rated MLS game of the season, but also the highest rated regular season game on ESPN to date.... I had projected a number above 800K viewers on ESPN. I expect decent numbers for the upcoming game between San Jose vs. Galaxy...It is getting some hype and promotion on ESPN family of network. We could see numbers around 500k on ESPN2, but more than likely around 450K.
That would be an enormous number. Not only would it crush this years best on ESPN2, it would also be the best on ESPN2 last year as well, of which the highest was 410k. I don't think the "late" start will affect things too much. Last years highest rated ESPN2 game was also a late start at 10:30pm eastern.
I guess that was a better guess than this one you made on NBCSN's first MLS game , which was only off by a factor of 4 https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...n-a-3-year-deal.1800376/page-61#post-25318381
Does anyone think we will see a game reach 1 mil this year? Obviously, it would be a lot harder without the Euro 2012 lead in.
I really do think that if the ASG was on ESPN it would probably reach 1 million. Then if you add in the viewers on the other three channels would make it even larger.
IIRC the ESPN afternoon broadcast of NY@CHI got a fairly good rating. They are the other NBC game, so they could do well, too. Not sure about a million though.
Last year NY at Chi did 622k viewers on ESPN, largest regular season game of the year. There are 3 total NBC games but they are going to be up against very difficult competition on Saturday afternoons in the fall. I agree that these NBC games are going to be a very long shot at getting a million but they are the only league games that even have a chance.
