If that outrages you, then you should be really outraged at what media misrepresentation, "unfair editing", etc., did to Shirley Sherrod.

I don't pay any more attention to MSNBC than I do to Fox.

Another thing I don't do is consider MSNBC old media.

If MSNBC is old media, then so is Fox.

Okay. When I think of new media, I think of things like websites, blogs & twitter rather than offshoots of television channels that have been around for a ages.

And we can pick on mindless conservatives all we want but if MSNBC is doing something sketchy, the fact that Fox also does things that are as bad or worse doesn't make it okay.

The point should be to be better than that. And if liberals don't demand it of MSNBC, then shame on us.
The sad thing is that it isn't about the truth, it's about ratings. With that in mind, I don't watch "news" channels unless something big is going on. Like hurricanes or election nights.

I agree. But let's also remember that each network is not monolithic. Shep Smith has been genuinely courageous at Fox News to push back against the propaganda that otherwise infuses that network. And there's a big difference in not only the demeanor, but also the intellectual rigor that hosts like Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes demand in their shows compared to the likes of Ed Schultz and Lawrence O'Donnell.

And as a liberal, I choose to do my part by rewarding the responsible journalists like Rachel & Chris with my viewership and ignoring the rest.

MSNBC lost even more credibility when they gave that charlatan Rev. Al an hour show. Talk about turning over the candy store to the kids

MSNBC hides it's good programming deep within a bowl of poo, the stench of which is hard for the uninitiated to ignore..

I DVR and watch Up with Chris Hayes devoutly each weekend and try to spread the gospel to anyone who will listen (folks often refuse just because its on MSNBC). And I watch Rachel when I think about it on weeknights (everyone already has an opinion on this show).

Ed Schultz, Al Sharpton, Martin Bashir, and Lawrence O'Donnell pretty much good for nothing....

Forgot to mention Rev. Al, but I agree with both of you that he's a train wreck. The other show that I'll occasionally watch is Now with Alex Wagner. She has some intelligent people on her rotation of guests and rarely has the typical spinmeisters engaging in shouting contests. But mostly I watch it because Alex is so damn cute. :)

Eh, I don't demand it of MSNBC not because I cut liberals a break, but because I don't take MSNBC seriously. Yeah OK people tell me that Maddow and Hayes are great but the few times I've stumbled across that channel while surfing it's been brain-damaging stupid. So it's a writeoff to me, just another Fox.

Oh and just googled Alex Wagner, nah she ain't doing it for me. But I have the hots for Condi Rice (ooh Condi) so you gotta consider the source.

I guess part of it is that by the time I get home at night, I don't want to think about this crap anymore. Most of the time when I'm at home, I'm trying to escape the real world so if I watch tv, it's usually mindless crap or documentaries about black holes or something. If I start watching political shows, it raises my blood pressure and I have trouble going to sleep.

I love Rachel Maddow and I have a huge ladycrush on her. I wish we could clone her because journalism needs more people like her. But I still get too tense when I watch her so I don't.

    Too tense?

Alright let's call Fox and MSNBC middle-aged media, can we agree on that?

    Works for me.

If I start thinking too much about politics, I get tense and upset. I've been spending much less time here than I used to.

Election season has had that effect on me too. And this year, apparently, pre-election season (see my morning rant in GOP Failure thread - that's just me forgetting to stop paying attention). My news consumption is down, music consumption and soccer consumption is up!

I get that way too sometimes. I figured it was either that or your womancrush was becoming too much for you, but I suspected the former.

Well, it is somewhat saddening that she's out of my league in every way and I'm doomed to worship from afar. But yeah, mostly it's the subject matter, not her considerable womanly badass charms.

MSNBC is owned by NBC, so that is part of the old media. I think she's still an employee of NBC, either way. Regardless, she is old, and clearly in the tank for Obama.
