Guess what, WC qualifying begins in less than three months. Guess who we have in our first match? Turkey, and they trashed Portugal in the final friendly before the Euros. Not a good one to start off with.
obviously central defense needs to change and defense in general just listing some available youth players and the clubs they play for and are (rumoured) to play for Douglas - Fc Twente (newcastle) Jetro Willems- PSV (manchester united) Kevin Strootman- PSV (manchester united) Erik Pieters-PSV (newcastle) Vurnon Anita- Ajax (newcastle bid denied by ajax) Bram Nuytinck- NEC (West Bromwich albion, Borussia monglendbach, Juventus, Napoli) Jeffrey Gouweleeuw- Herenveen (???) Nick Viergever- AZ (???) Jordy Clasie- Feyenoord (???) Ricky Van Wolfswinkel- Sporting Lisbon (manchester united & City, liverpool) Ola John- Benfica Stefan De Vrij-feyenoord (everton, aston villa, Newcastle) Bas Dost- Werder Bremen Eljero Elia- Juventus will be moving (liverpool, West ham united, schalke 04) Luc Castingnos- Inter Milan (west ham united, Feyenoord loan) Luuk De Jong -Fc twente (newcastle, tottenham, benfica, Bayern, borussia dortmund and monglendebach) Hedwiges Maduro- Sevilla alexander buttner- Vitesse (fulham & shaktar donetsk) Jeffrey Bruma- Hamburg loan move from chelsea Ricardo van rhijn- Ajax Daley Blind-ajax (possible move to center back) Michel Vorm- Swansea City (tottenham) Tim Krul- Newcastle (tottenham) since tottenham sacked redknapp, and newcastle seem to love french and dutch players being most likely to sign douglas only arguement over fees Hopefully these guys play as many games as possible, and yeah, i know i forgot plenty of guys, but i just thought of guys on the top of my head and looked at transfer rumours
Between now and WC 2014 there will be ~20 games to play. That should enough time to bring in a lot of fresh faces and give them the experience they need. Out: Mathijssen, Bouma, Bouhlarouz, Kuyt, Vlaar, Van Bommel, Schaars, Van der Wiel In: Viergever, Van Rhijn, Nuytinck, De Vrij, Douglas, Anita, Gouweleeuw, Maher, John (maybe) I would go back to a simple 4-3-3 and immediately bring in the new players: Robben------Van Persie--------Narsingh Sneijder-------Anita------------Maher Viergever-De Vrij-Douglas-Van Rhijn ------------------Krul I wouldn't drop Heitinga from the squad, but he wouldn't be first choice anymore. I should e-mail this post to whoever becomes the next coach
What I posted in the other thread: There should be a couple old guard kept around to provide leadership. I hate to say it, but one of the guys that should be replaced - or at least relocated - is Robben. We need fresh wingers. IMO either he converts to a striker or central midfielder or he gets a less active role. There's no reason to wait for players to retire before bringing in their replacement. So I say over the next two years the players that should be kept for high quality leadership are: Robben, Sneijder, de Jong (possibly to pair up with a young center back), van der Vaart and one of van Persie or Huntelaar since the current group of strikers doesn't really fill me with confidence. The other striker should be a youngster though. Sneijder should definitely be made captain. The starting XI should be something like: Krulvan Rhijn - Gouweleeuw - de Jong - ViergeverClasieAnita - SneijderNarsingh - van Persie - JohnAnd I really don't care if this exact group doesn't take us to #1 in the world within the next two years, it'll at least have spark and I will enjoy watching it. The group that was started in 04 peaked in 2010. This team has the potential to go places given time. I just hope that we get a manager that's willing to bring in fresh talent, cause the new talent that van Marwijk brought in just doesn't have the potential to be world class, and that's a huge problem.
Why would you put De Jong in defense when we have so many talents coming through there? Although I can see we need someone with authority and experience in there, but I think Douglas could take that role upon him.
for the experience. I'd prefer to have an experienced leader on each line, and I think de Jong is the best option for the back line of all the current players we have. I don't think two young Eredivisie centerbacks in the NT would be a good idea.
who is the coach at that time of your guys predicting the line-up i think based on what we coach we get _________________________Stekelenburg============================== Douglas _______________-__Maduro Van Rhijn ___________________________________________________-_Pieters ---------------------------------------Strootman =========N. De Jong (C) Robben -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Elia =============================------------------Sneijder---------------------------------------------------------------------Van Persie------------------------------------------------------ The reason i make that selection is because Erik Pieters is amazingly better than a lot of people think, he always gets overlooked for whatever reason, what i would love to see though, is pieters move to centerback, he's 6'4 or 1.93 m. Dude is tall, can get forward, and deliver passes. He truly is our best left back, look at what Holland did without him. went on a big losing run. Although i like gouweleeuw and de vrij and others to develop, especially daley blind was supposed to be one of the top left backs at ajax, he also might move into the center. The truth is, we only got 3 months. I like the 4-4-2 because it's easier to transition from the 4-2-3-1 that we had, sort of how guus hiddink had it, and de boer and davids would boss the midfield and score a log of goals. another thing is experience, We shouldn't crucify everyone just yet, Van Rhijn or van der wiel for right back, assuming that van der wiel finds a good team to play for and proves his worth. Central defenders no doubt douglas will be playing. he is experienced, and by the time the qualifiers start, he might be starting for newcastle. and i put maduro, because i don't know who else could be put in that position with enough experience right now besides heitinga, I picked Strootman and Nigel De jong in central midfield, because De Jong Proved he can Provide great passes and shut down teams by himself, although he won't score any goals, and Strootman can score plenty of goals and push up, so he would actually occupy the space behind sneijder and van persie So on offense it's a 4-1-4-1, and defense it's 4-4-2
Obviously the formation we play is important but even more critical is getting the players to move. I've never seen an Oranje side as static as this one, very little coordinated action.
I would play - Anita Clasie Strootman Robben ST Elia/Narsingh/Ola John I would go to a 4-3-3, a 3 Man Mid-field with bite. I think Sneijder's had his moments & with his situation at Inter he does not have anything to offer much. A 3 Man mid-field where everyone defends & attacks & goes upfront would be Boss & would not be run over like today. I would try out everyone, Viergever,De Vrij,Gladbach CB,Bruma. Gouweleeuw does not even get a chance with U-21's. I doubt he will be played there. Van Rhijn,Koppers,Dost,Luuk, I hope all of them get a chance. I would try out Emanuelson at LB. Milan dont have a LB & might try him. He wont be worse than Willems. I hope the upcoming friendly are used to test all new talents to see who has "it"
i don't like emanuelson at left back, he just isn't good enough Pieters should be undisputed number 1, while also giving chances to Viergever, Blind, Anita, chances, and when willems gets a full season with some europa league performances that are good, then we can see if he is the real deal for Holland. and the good thing with ola john is since he's at benfica, and if he doesn't play, we know he's not the real deal, but if he plays, and a lot, (portugal produces great wing players) that he's awesome, and in the champions league.
^if he didn't get hurt back in December, I suspect he would have been part of this team. he certainly would have been better than Afellay on the left wing since he doesn't put his head down, can cross the ball, beat his defender and cut inside and shoot. Too bad really for him but the question is whether the back problem is chronic or not.
he hasn't really been mentioned to play on other teams, and at 25, he's one year away from his prime, and his prime should be spent playing at a top team in europe. at 22 he should already been on lots of radars, but it seems he's like a late bloomer type in the media perception. I do like him and felt he should have gone with holland to the euros. But hey i'm not the coach.
Worth to keep (i.e. build the new team around them): - Nigel De Jong-- best performer in Oranje shirt this Euro. As a case in DM position, he will get better with ages (still only 28). Playing in one of the most competitive clubs in the world, which will push him run an extra mile. If anything, he will give muscles and aggressiveness to an otherwise soft team. - Sneijder. Still the most complete player in midfield. I think he has plenty left in his tank. He needs to get his club situation sorted out, though. - RvP. Most skillful forward today, and frankly the option is rather thin upfront. Need the right "system" to make him effective (which obviously hasn't been the case in Van Marwijk's era). If Arsenal can get the most out of him, why can't Oranje? The rest of the team is up for grabs. I loved seeing different names and permutations that folks have posted! - Strootman, Clasie, and Maher have potential to be top drawer players. They are leading candidates, and need to be tested real soon. - Narsingh and Ola John will give the youth firepower. The veteran Robben is useful to have in the squad, but he won't walk in easily to the starting line-up anymore. Still, there are Afellay and (maybe) Elia. I'd love to see Luuk De Jong gets minutes, also. - Defense is a mess. Anything is worth a try. I defended Pieters quite a bit on this board, just because I think he is first and foremost a 'defender.' He hassles and tackles his opponent with determination, compensating his lack of footballing skills. I'd say he is worth a recall. Willems need to be challenged, otherwise he will turn into vd Wiel 2.0.. cocky and complacent. I am not convinced with Vlaar but who knows he will prove me wrong. Good thing is he will be playing in European competition, so maybe he will make a leap. Douglas is a must. He's ahead in terms of development and experiences, compared to the other youngsters (Bruma, De Vrij, Viergiever, Nuytinck, Gooweleeuw, etc.)
I'm going to predict that in two years, we'll still be complaining about our centre back no matter who plays there.
That could be a good midfield in four years, but I think for the transition it needs a leader. I'd keep Sneijder in there and maybe de Jong
