Heaps seems determined to stick with the 4-4-2, even though we only have 1 effective forward. I don't mind Brettschneider being on the roster and getting some occasional pt. But, he's gotten way too many minutes this season for what he accomplishes. I thought the situation called for Fagundez, but what do I know.

Heaps said in the past game interview that he had planned to bring on Diego but in-game injuries foiled his substitution plan.

IMO this roster is close to morphing into a competitive unit. The various pieces still don't fit together well and we still need a few upgrades buy I'm comfortable that Heaps has the team heading in the right direction

Stop putting Blake Brettschneider on the field...at all.

I'd rather us use 3 defensive substitutions than to keep putting this clown on the field.

More than Jay Heaps about evaluating strikers apparently

Well Heaps said he would've brought on Fagundez but with McCarthy struggling and potentially having to come off, he didn't want to have no subs left. I think he even second guessed that decision.

As much as I like other aspects of his game, Sene needs to take some blame on this too. If they're going to play with some width and pump in crosses, then he needs to stop hanging around the top of the 18. Instead, they're stuck with the lone option of Moreno wandering inside the spot and no true near or far post run.

Cardenas was on frame - the keeper just got it with his trailing hand swipe. Ironically, the one shot where he does go for power, he would've scored if he took a little off of it.

Because Rowe has serious defensive lapses and when you're playing with a traffic cone at DM, you can't afford that. Bringing Rowe on as a 30 minute sub, when you need some offense makes sense to me - it simplifies the game for him, which he needs at this point in his development. If a fresh Eddie Gaven had the space that was available to him after Rowe came on, there's a pretty good chance that this idoesn't end with a clean sheet.

This was the first game I've attended since the 2010 season - too bad it ended up being such a snooze fest. I was looking forward to seeing Sene in action but that was a huge let down too since he pretty much sucked (to be fair, most of the rest of the team sucked too). Rowe was a bright spot.

On the positive side, my 14 year old son who's rediscovering soccer again enjoyed himself and wants to go to more games. If he can enjoy such a lame soccer game, there's hope for him turning into a lifelong soccer fan when (if) he gets to see something more exciting.

Yes but if Heaps put him on in replace of Moreno at half time instead of captain useless it wouldn't have been an issue

This and the fact we seemed to revert to Route 1 ball during the game. Way too many long balls over the top for my taste. (Either that or we make it down the wing, but wind up dribbling into three or four defenders.) We still are losing the midfield battle game after game. While Shalrie's mobility may be lacking, I think that Benny's insight is lacking as well. If you watched Columbus' 10 (Mirosevic?) he was able, time and again to find 'soft' spots in our defense to receive the ball in. We don't seem able to do that.

Wached it live - I thought it was interesting in that there was a lot of back and forth between the 22 yard lines, just not much beyond that.

One small plus to take out of this game ... this makes two straight clean sheets, which is great considering we had 1 in the first 12 games.

Benny isn't a #10. Never was, never has been.

Heaps is really forcing this 4-4-2 diamond. It's a formation that's great for direct counter attacks, but then Heaps says he wants to play in on the ground and dominate the other team. I definitely feel like I'm getting mixed messages. I still don't get why we can't try something else, when this is clearly not working.

If Heaps continues with this formation/tactics all season and nothing clicks, I know I'll be asking for a new head coach in the offseason. Tactically, you have roll with the punches. Heaps is just banging his head against the wall.

Classic MLS 0-0 match....Epic as always.

I almost asked to attend as my Father's Day gift....so glad I recognized that this match had the potential to ruin all the joy I've had with watching the Euros over the last few weeks.

I did not let the Revs or MLS sour my taste for the beautiful game. Gonna have to wait until after 7/1 to come back down to earth.

The Colombians are busts IMO. Too bad as the team could really use a slight boost to be competitive.

Doc, I meant Fagundez instead of Brettschneider. Not in addition to.

That may have been the ugliest game this year. Central midfield was awful. Two individuals not working together. Neither covering for the other. Backs must have noticed this and started to bypass the midfield making it much easier to defend. What happened to the crisp short passes that worked for the first 5-10 minutes?

Couldn't count the number of times I saw the center of the field empty or just full of yellow.

    Hyperbolize much?

On a scale of all time rev stinkers (with 10 being the stinkiest), this one is about a 2 on a scale where the Joe Public fiasco is a 10.

It was a combination of lack of support from the midfielders and a bit of bunkering by the Crew. We need to find a way to get more creative against a packed-in defense.

If Sene's shot is a 1/2" lower, the mood/perspective would be a lot brighter. It's a fine margin.

...and if Gaven and Renteria didn't flub their doorstep chances, it would be a lot worse.

0-0 matches...Revs could have a promo that whenever there is a 0-0 match then the ticket from that match is valid for a future match (GA Sections only and for specific matches matches only). It would put butts in seats that most likely would not be attending otherwise. $$ from concessions etc would benefit KSG. Folks would be encouraged to bring guests and atmosphere would be greatly improved for otherwise dead games (Wed. match for example)

Attending fans shouldn't have to suffer with a 0-0 tie. Although they do exist most 0-0 matches are not very exciting, especially at MLS level. I don't know the % of 0-0 home matches per season. Maybe 2-3 tops?

This approach would work at Gillette and with the current attendance status
