But the exact reason you don't build it to more than 20k at this point as many others had asked about. Fill it consistently first.

Looks like the weekend should end around 17.5k to 18k. Not bad without Seattle in there. If we can average that when don't have a Seattle game and higher when we do that'll be good for attendance. Of course Montreal moving to Saputo instead of Olypmic Stadium will be a drag on the average. Houston with more home games will raise it up a bit, but probably not quite offset the drop.

Sigh....are people really starting the hand-wringing for Montreal already? Remember, this is hardly a "stadium opener" in the sense we're used to. Saputo isn't a new facility; they've been playing there for 4 years. Sure, the new configuration is significantly larger and it would have been nice to fill every seat, but on the whole this hardly rates as an event game on the scale of the big matches that have filled the Olympic Stadium several times already this year.

yes, but montreal was touted by many as a no-brainer because of the incredible attendance they would bring. people pointed to cracks in that logic, but many (most?) thought it was just going to kick ass like the other two canadian sides.

Yes the stadium opener was disappointing, but the only thing it really indicates is that the hardcore supporters group is smaller than we would like.

The fact is that after 3 weeks of dead air, the impact were almost completely out of the media spotlight.
While there was plenty of press for the past 48 hours, the team had left the city's consciousness already.

We have a bunch of home games in a row, especailly the introduction of Di Vaio on the 27th, I would expect all of them to do better than today.

But you can't argue with the result

Tbh, with the Euros on, I have lost touch with following mls a bit. I'll be back after it ends, but in the meantime loving the high quality football of the euros. I wonder if there's a bit of that going on in Montreal.

In that case, why only Montreal? Seems the other markets had average - above average attendance, especially following a long break.

Wait, Montreal's stadium capacity isn't 20,000 yet, right? Its still under construction, no? I thought the plan was to open the stadium now, finish the seating this summer, and finish the roof this winter.

Edit, maybe its just the concourse and roof that are unfinished.

Real Salt Lake should have worn their "Victory Gold" 3rd jersey. Some Chivas 1.0 fans would buy tickets just to boo whoever is wearing gold jerseys.

Did Montréal increase ticket prices or cut back on giveaways?

Not sure about some of that, but from what I can tell there was a portion of one stand still unfinished.

Biggest crowd of the season so far. I think only one game has not hit capacity, and that was an afternoon sharing the local sports spotlight with Kansas basketball/March Madness. Standing room only has become the norm at LSP.

I wonder what would have happened had they built a stadium with just a slightly higher capacity then demand. Would 20k still show up in a 25k stadium?

I assume at some point there were people who didn't buy SRO tickets who would have bought a ticket with a seat.
