    so who is MOTM?
Espy is the easy choice, but Grabavoy was incredible tonight.
I'm down for a split award.

    goat of the match: McKenzie
I'm still not sure his jockstrap is properly on

I agree he did have some bad moments but he made some pretty good defensive plays and you could probably count a half dozen times or more Steele racing across the bottom of the screen trying to get into the play draw defenders.

I could see him becoming a player like Grabavoy that plays all over the midfield for RSL.

Props to Wingert who had another great game.

the thing about Grabs is that he has such incredible skill on the ball and hardly ever pisses it away.
his feet, as Dunny very well pointed out, are "soft" in a freakish way at times. he handles difficult passes with ease and moves the ball around simply yet lethally.

a better comparison for Steele would be Johnson
lots of effort, crazy goals out of nowhere, but some poor decision making at times

Sabo got screwed on the first off-side call and it really made me miss the quality of officiating in the Euro's.
Espindola's second goal was class so calm so smooth.
Morales looked great in his few minutes and I hope it is a good sign for things to come.
Sabo was far from perfect, sorry I am not yet one of his greatest fans.
RSL looked good tonight on the road and I look forward to the next 10 matches many at home, we really should be putting some distance between us and the rest of the league when it is over.

I can't believe I am actually saying this, but I got extremely bored. It was like watching a scrimmage. RSL looked legit, but also rusty. Chivas just looked horrid, and the more I watch them, the more I hate them. I believe I hate Chivas more than the Galaxy.

When it was on, we absolutely crushed their midfield. What I find encouraging is that despite the newish role for Grabavoy, and several people coming back from camps etc, the team settled down and improved in the second half. The rust is to be expected. LA's in trouble.

Finishing is the only reason we lost to those guys before. Chivas is not a complete team. They bunker and try to get points on set pieces.

That's pretty much Steele in every game. For all the positives he'll bring in a match, he'll have a lot of really bad moments that we have to recover from. I'm really hoping he's able to improve. The quality is certainly there, he just needs to fix the poor giveaways and defensive mistakes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Sabo wasn't perfect but neither was anyone else for that matter. Everyone had some bad rusty giveaways. Even a couple of US National team players had some pretty bad giveaways that could have spelled disaster.

Sabo may not be perfect but the hate borders on delusional. Will Johnson has bad giveaways, shots on goal right at the keeper like clockwork every game but don't for one second mention him as a trade option or people go bat crap crazy on here.

Sabo ran his butt off last night and should have scored. His goal was sweet.

With Sabo I know where you are coming from. Everyone has players they like or dislike. I like Steele and see the positives he brings. Others notice all of the mistakes. Which are many.

Both teams looked rusty to me. It showed in their errant passes that both teams took advantage of. But, overall, RSL looked like they had suffered less from the layoff. Steele shows moments of creativity and his work rate is very high. He made errors. I'll be watching for his errors to go down and if they do, he's our next Grabavoy or Johnson.

I think the most valuable thing we saw in the team was how a makeshift midfield and makeshift back line can still do the job. The team has versatility and it is part of the magic of how Garson have constructed the team. We are not playing as prettily, but we are producing very nicely.

Just watched the match again this morning, sober.

Beckerman was very good, he controls the ball and most often his outlet passes are the beginning of some positive possession for RSl.

Espindola gets motm, his second goal should be a goal of the week contender, beautiful footwork.

Borchers was fantastic in defense very calm and very effective.

Steele was not as bad as many have stated in my opionion. Some very hard fouls by him lucky not to get carded.

Kreis thought RSL played a very good match and I would agree. Sure a little rusty at times but some very positive attack minded soccer.

On Steele: His fitness was awesome last night (a big improvement), his shoes were wrong (he slipped more than anyone - maybe it's how he cuts) and conceptually - despite the giveaways he IS starting to get the diamond. I thought it was his best overall start so far.

On Chivas: For those of you who were there, tell us how far the tarps go. It's just bizarre to see the stadium in that state. I get it. Moving people together creates a game day feel, but it looked pretty extensive. If the stadium's a clock what hours are tarped? Move the franchise to St. Louis.

According to the stats, he completed 40 passes with 11 incomplete passes. Was tackled and lost posession 14 times. Like many have said, he's got some bright moments, but he does have some glaring mistakes. I don't hate the guy, but right now he's not quite starter material. If Chivas had a better offense, those turnovers could've easily led to goal scoring opportunities.

against LA, a team with more lethal offensive players, one or two of those glaring turnovers leads to a goal.
We got lucky that Chivas just didn't seem to give a shit for long stretches with some of the giveaways Steele and others (many) made.

That is what I hope Kreis focuses on in the days leading to Wednesday's match.
You can't give the ball away in your own half to a team that has Beckham, Donovan, and Buddle in their attack. You'll be punished.

Here's why Steele is so hard to fathom: aside from Wingert's pressure + steal + cross in the first half, was there a better play on the night than Steele anticipating Kennedy's outlet throw wide, sprinting to intercept it, movement up the wing, then hold and drop the ball to Kyle in space rather than trying to force a cross himself? Or a worse play than the early short corner where he sort of dinked the ball to a Chivas attacker, leading to a four on two break the other way?

I'd says Grabs' perfectly weighted threaded pass on Espy's goal was up there with that Steele sequence. But most games for everything I feel like I'm praising Steele for, I can usually pick out 1 or 2 things that he did just as bad. I will say I felt he looked better overall this game than in prior ones, so hopefully this is something that improves over time.

To single out anyone last night for potential game turning bad passes would not be fair. Even reliable Rimando had a pretty glaring and dangerous pass in the second half that went right to a chivas player in their attacking third that they should have made more of but didn't. Kyle had one too in the first half that went right to a chivasian in the middle of the field.

I like what Steele brings but agree whole heartedly that his errors need to decline.

It's interesting how different fans choose to see RSL players, by their mistakes or positive attributes.

I agree that a lot of players had some mistakes that aren't typical of them. I'm sure (just like Chivas) it was due to the time off. Defensively though, we were rock solid and that was some of the best team defense I've seen from us in awhile.

well, you're way ahead of me. just got up to watch the euro and i'll have the RSL game on my laptop at the same time.

man, i was hammered drunk last night (lol, surprise, i know) and was trying to watch on my iphone at my friends house, just wasnt happening with the drinking games and all. seemed like i would watch the game intently for a few minutes, get yelled at to make my play, look up for a second, look back down and RSL had scored. annoying. i did manage to catch sabo's "offside" goal, which looked pretty damn onside to me. whats that on the season for sabo? 4 legit offsides goals pulled back? ridiculous.

im 50 minutes into the game, not seeing what anyone could see in steele, the guy has been absolute SHIT all game long, tons and tons of needless giveaways, bad touches and completely careless play. the only good thing he's done up to this point was the interception of the kennedy distribution that lead to the goal. i guess that makes up for the 20 bad touches and half dozen horrible giveaways he's made.
