Okay, who called that substitution? Have we had a stranger exchange, ever, than Javi for Olave? Maybe with Schuler out, we feel more in need of a backup center back than we wonder who to have lead the attack? Get Wingert in the middle for 30 or so? I'm grasping at straws here!
Kreis has a lot of faith in Tanaka if he'd rather have Johnson play a makeshift leftback... maybe over the summer window we look for a defender and a striker?
georg, I'm with you tonight on Sabo's finishing. Everything else has been really really good, but the finishing touch (the most important for his position) has been lacking... except on the should-have-been-but-wasn't-offsides goal
At the 80th I want to see Kyle get subbed. we need him against LA has someone made sure to pick up McKenzie's jockstrap, yet? Espy sliced him apart so dirty on that goal... That's goal of the week material (it wont be) because of how smooth the whole play was
From what we've seen so far, I am glad we had two goals before subbing Javi in. He's rusty and needs the work, and we need to not teeter on a one goal lead with him in there.
2 yellow card worthy fouls in a 2 second play... and neither gets one nice ref, nice if you book Kyle for some cheap shit, I'll be PISSED and Sabo gets one for a foul I've seen Chivas players make multiple times tonight way to go ref. Of all the things I could call you, consistent is certainly not one of them
how can Minda be pissed at this ref? smart move by Fraser to yank him before he gets a stupid second yellow
the best Chivas attack tonight is us giving away the ball. I haven't seen them really build anything but we sure have made some dumb passes out of the back to their players in our half
Both teams are rusty. But, we can clearly see why McKensie was let go by RSL. If Fraser can teach him skills, he will be amazing because he has extraordinary physique. Those ragging on Sabo, remember how many miles he flew. And, before you say: hey Beckerman flew nearly as many, remember that Beckerman played barely a minute, Sabo played 80 in his last match.
I wasn't ripping into Sabo, I was saying the last touch was just a little off the rest of his game has actually been really really good. He is the reason Espy is so open on both of his goals. Sabo demands 2 defenders to track him and lets Espy, a lot of times, get into those 1v1 situations he loves. If I was a chivas fan, I'd be livid. You're down 2-0 at home and you are getting out worked, effort wise, by the team ahead. no heart from Chivas tonight. Really sad to see, honestly I love when Espy is the player being subbed. He never, ever, looks at the board once he knows it is him. it's hilarious. He walks all the way to the other side of the field. goes deaf. shakes random people's hands. its awesome
someone care to explain to me how there are 3 minutes of stoppage time in a half thats had 1 goal and 4 subs? I know the "typical" amount of time is 30 seconds for a sub and about a minute for a goal but this game has not been "typical" in that manner. It should be 1 or 2 at the very most
anybody else chanting "ole" during the passing sequence that lead to the final goal? That was RSL soccer that was awesome
I'm not sure what surprised me more, Javi coming in for Olave, or Johnson not shooting it directly at the keeper.
Yes, and the assist for Javi, especially so pretty an assist, should give us all confidence that our Javi is back!
Great way for RSL to finish off the ankle biters. That second goal took all the wind out of Chivas. RSL played some pretty clinical futbol for much of the game minus a few errant passes from everyone including Steele, Rimando, Beckerman etc. The defense was excellent for much of the game. Chivas was never really dangerous unless, as noted by others, RSL turned the ball over to them. Sabo was a stud all night. He had one bad touch trying to get around Kennedy and his goal was silky smooth. Nice to finish off the game with a little "Will Power" and stomp Chivas into the ground. Not a team I like. They look to have a bright future so keeping them down will be a challenge. Now on to the Galaxy. I hope RSL brings their A game for Wednesday. Should be fun.
Great game to shake the rust off. Absolutely loved the team defense whenever they got the ball back, taking away almost any chance for a counter. Waste time in the corner at the end of the match? **** that! Loved never giving up the whole game. Poor grabs is going to have to ice his ankles tonight. He was getting hacked down more than anyone tonight. I think we have both a save and goal of the week candidate. Maybe we can take both honors this week?
Also to comment on Sabo. While that touch was rough, Kennedy did appear to have the cross to Grabavoy covered, imo. Better touch there and I think we see him on the score sheet, or a cool pass to Grabavoy for the tap in.
For me Steele wasn't mentally sharp tonight. He was always a step behind from the game in my opinion. Certainly had his moments but they were outnumbered by the bad.
