I got a PM about laundry and tracked down an answer that should be helpful to all. Spoke with the GM of the Courtyard by Marriott, the companion hotel of the Marriott today. (Most states will be at the Marriott, I think three states are in the Courtyard, right across the road - South Carolina is one at the Courtyard). He indicated that they have two coin operated washers and dryers, detergent is complimentary. These will be fully stocked as they have been warned of the amount of use they will be getting over the next week. IF there is such high demand that people can't use them they do have another washer they use for linens that they can potentially open up. I'm also going to check with the Fairfield Inn, which is right across the main road, and see if we can use their washer and dryer too, should we need to. They should have quarters but I would bring some just to be on the safe side.
Looks like Arkansas, Mississippi and SC are at the Courtyard. Lets keep that laundry thing to ourselves. Don't want no interlopers.
Too late! Already emailed this to my guys and gals heading up there from Louisiana. Let the laundry dance begin!
That's OK. A Courtyard room key is required to get in. Being the entrepreneur that I am, I will be selling access to the folks from the Marriott. Price to be determined by demand.
I think I speak for almost everyone when I say that the tournament was a great success and a great time for all. For those of you at the banquet, I was that guy from TN that had his age announced to everyone and I was honored to work with such experienced referees.
Thanks usaref. I hope everyone enjoyed our little town for the week and had a nice week of games. We were very privileged and honored to host y'all and hope to get the opportunity again in the future. As much as I would like to say that this tournament was a rousing success I would rather get your input on things. What did you guys like and not like about this week (other than maybe an elevator problem )? Did you like the hotels? How about the laundry situation (not the dry cleaners option for obvious reasons)? Any suggestions for the referee tent or playing fields? Thanks in advance for your input. It was nice to meet some of you and I hope to see y'all again soon. Here's to another Regionals in the books!
footy, The hotel was great. People would go down and just sit by the pool with some drinks after a day at the fields and enjoy themselves. Laundry was easy if you got there at the right time, and the fields were in great condition. I only wonder why the fields had blue lines. That is certainly not a complaint though as the lines were never faded and served there purpose perfectly. At the fields, there were plenty of volunteers that took us everywhere we needed to go. The 2 ladies that were in the ref tent all week did an outstanding job and were truly great people to be around. You should be proud of the wonderful event that your town put on.
We had to pay extra to make that happen. It actually rained for about 30 minutes yesterday afternoon - first time in over a week! Perfect timing.
Funny story- I saw a boy who had his two front teeth broken by an elbow during a header at the region iii tournament. It was on Sunday, the last day of pool play, u18. He said he stayed down and was getting his teeth figured out and the ref came over and cautioned him for simulation. When he looked up and showed the ref his teeth, the ref then goes and sends off the elbower. He let the caution stand, saying that he "can't go back on it." Who knows what the truth of it all was, but that is what he said. Crazy stuff!
Can be transfer this over to whatever thread it was that talked about "guessing the correct decision" vs "seeing the correct decision"?
I had a great time. I got to work a match with footyref. The only thing that bothered me was the crazy driving on the interstate and the main road that went from the hotel to the fields. It made me realize even South Carolina had bad drivers. Unfortunately, I am heading to grad school in the fall so I don't know how many of these events I will be able to attend in the future.
